If you are going to demo anything that is supposed to sound like real tone wheels or reeds do it so it can be heard in the room with a good condenser mic picking it up. How it reacts to the amp and speakers is one of the most important things about anything electromechanical. Now with that said, if you plug a Hammond T-400 direct you know instantly it's the real deal. This video sounds fake. That organ sounds fake, but maybe it wouldn't if you played it through a tube Leslie...Can roadie lift?
It was about time that such a keyboard was produced from Hammond Suzuki. There many synthesizer sounds in this new keyboard and what amazes me on this keyboard, is that you can customize your own present listed under the "Favorites" buttons (Programable preset pistons).
Too bad, no one know how to really play a Hammond these days. ALL THESE DEMOS of the SK series lacks any Swell or Volume pedal included. That's a crucial part of Hammond sound. I e when in heel position it should have a clear sound, and when pressed down the loudness should not raise as much as the distortion. It should be about 10 percent increase in loudness, and 90 percent distorsion. This is the only way to test if it has got that scary woof sound, that you make with just pumping the pedal.
a fabulous new Hammond portable, simply the best HAMMOND by HAMMOND before XK, and with a Leslie cabinet, it's a dream, please let down korg, yamaha, nord, it's bad copy and listen this state of the art keyboard really pro !
The organ sound he has on is crap trust me I own one and it is MUCH better than that tweaked to my own liking, maybe I could do a short video to demonstrate this?
@veronicaDeVore...it is what it is i aint knocking your reply, in fact i agree to an extent but you need to understand where i am comin from. The real deal is the tonewheel hammond. Also it aint the instrument but the player that makes the difference.
I would like to hear this in person. Everything on YT or over the internet for that matter sounds thin and generally crappy even with top of the line pro sound cards and studio monitors.
if you begin making REAL tonewheel organs once again, THEY WILL SELL!! The way you emulate and simulate the original is cool and all, and people do like being portable, HOWEVER many bands still travel with a REAL hammond, and every church in this area has a REAL hammond in their sanctuary. I guess making something that will last for 100 years might be bad for business though lol
@VeronicaDeVore i totally agree with you on this cause i dont hear the bite that a hammond would have and they dropped the ball on this one. if i want a keyboard i will buy a keyboard but when i want an organ i want a tonewheel tube powered hammond with a real leslie not digital and if you been playing awhile... you will know the difference. smh
@crazykeyscj34 You may well know that the demand for tonewheel organ sounds infinitely outnumbers the amount of players who can actually afford a real Hammond and/or Leslie cabinet. So your comment on this, or any, clonewheel organ strikes me as blatantly arrogant. I'm currently touring Europe with a bluesrock band and I play a Clavia Nord Electro 3 which does a great job and I have a "cheap" Suzuki Hammond XK 1 as a backup. Buying or even renting a B3 would mean I'd be paying more than I make..
Hammond did just what has been suggested to NORD for many years, and that was added the drawbars. And its about time, yes I will but this organ when it comes out. If the sounds on this video is any indication of what this organ may sound like ,it going to be incrdeible.
I've been gigging for over 40 years, and FINALLY, one board that does it all, ... Almost. WTF was Hammond thinking? Where's the pitch/mod wheels they've put on their other portable organs?!? I would buy this in a heartbeat, if I could control the expressiveness of the 'other' sounds. BIG mistake! I am truly disappointed. I NEED my expressions as much as I need my Hammond/Leslie sounds. No pitch/mod wheels on the SK1, is totally ridiculous!
@johnaka999 You might can find a used or new Hammond XE-1, XE-2, XE-200 that has the pitch and mod wheels on it. The organ sound is not bad if you know how to set it internally and what kind of leslie to hook it too.
I have had my B3 since 1969, picked up a Roland XK7/Yamaha RA50 (leslie amp) combination at Rogue Music in NYC around 2005, but have been using Logic's Mainstage's EVB3 with a Novation Remote SL37 + Casio Privia PX330 (for the extra keys) as my "B3" lately. Personally I like the SK-1 sounds. Looks like the 15 lbs might be referring to the 'roadie's attributes, and that may have prejudiced me. But if we can use a YoutTube video soundtrack to make such a judgement, The SK1 B3, Clav & Piano=awesome
What a shame. Hopefully this will just be a temporary blip and normal service will be resumed in the next release. Let Nord, Korg et al play about with this market sector and stick to making great organs please.
I must agree with Grahmspice and DX7Alex. The XK-1, XE-1, and XK-3c sound better than the Sk-1. The Sk-1 has this casio type of organ sound in the upper treble area of the board. As for the other sounds. The piano sound good but I would buy a nord over the SK-1 and SK-2. Nord sounds are more authentic and for the price, It would be better to buy a nord or the Hammond XK-3c or XK-1 or New or used XE-1. I think people are just hyped because its new, other than that Buy a XK-3c, XE-1 or XK-1.
"The XK-1, XE-1, and XK-3c sound better than the Sk-1."
Really? Where exactly did you spend so much time with this unit? Or any time at all?
"I think people are just hyped "
Who is "hyped"? There has been hardly any "hype". People are just watching the vids to get an idea of what the board sounds like. Thus far, it's been shitty quality recordings.
@antimarxism I am very much an organ player. The XK-3c, XE-1 and XK-1 does sound better. The Xk-3c has tubes inside of it. The Xe-1 has two sets of drawbars plus orchestral sounds, the xk-1 sounds close to the Xk-3c without the tubes. As far as the quality of the video goes, people are not dumb, they know what sounds good and what does not.
In my opinion, I would buy the Hammond XK-3c, XE-1 or XK-1. They have a more realistic sound. Although the nord does not have drawbars, It still sound goo
@Royalorgans Again, you know that the Nord doesn't have drawbars. Stop lying.
"The XK-3c, XE-1 and XK-1 does sound better."
AGAIN! Where exactly did you spend so much time comparing the XK's with the SK1/2. Where/when exactly did you put your hands on the SK's, or personally witness a live demonstration. Because if you are still going by the few shit quality vids on YT, you are the fool I thought you were.
The XK3C might sound a bit better than this one because it has an onboard tube. The XK3C is also more styled like a real B3 in terms of the layout of the presets, chorus/vibrato knob, etc.
I'll be interested to try out this new SK series but won't be surprised if the piano and other sounds aren't that great. :) Don't they compare themselves to Nord ever? Have to assume they do. The Nord Stage has some great sounds.
Same guts as the XK3, how can anyone claim the XK3 sounds better, lol , the SK-1 looks like a winner for Hammond. Like to hear some of the vox & farfisa sounds too.
The Organ sound on this thing is bad but the piano sound good. I would go for the Hammond XK-3c XE-1 or XK-1. These organs sound better than the sk-1. If you want other sound just use midi and you are golden.

what I'm really wondering is why the wurly part of the demo has so excessive reverb - it's impossible to say for sure whether it's decent or not..
