There was not contract with Black slaves. They where treated as cattle. The Irish where never treated like cattle they where treated like second class citizens but citizens none the less. A child born in slavery is a slave. A child born in servitude is poor and not contractually obligated to the landowner. They could leave.

@underbjorn Whites were the majority of slaves long before the blacks. Whites enslaved by whites. Not indentured servants (which was slavery)...but actual slaves. White slaves were actually cheaper to buy than blacks. This led to the severe mistreatment of whites, contrary to popular Hollywood belief. The truth about slavery is ugly. You need to forget your Hollywood education and do some real research.

@underbjorn If you do peer-reviewed research I suggest 1492 as the starting point. It was estimated that 1/2-2/3 of all cargo from Europe were white slaves. Like I said, this shouldn't divide us, it should unite us. I guarantee our great grandfathers were slaves, and probably friends.

When we stopped taking criminals and slaves from Europe they started sending all of them to Australia. This is how the Aussies came about.

They where indentured servants who (if they lived long enough) would receive a severance package and a small piece of land. SLAVES didn't get paid they just worked or they got beat half to death or died.

@EndTheFedRes indentured servants very different from actual slavery. They got contracts. they had a limitation on the amount of work they had to do and there was a pay out. There was not contract with Black slaves. They where treated as cattle. The Irish where never treated like cattle they where treated like second class citizens but citizens none the less. A child born in slavery is a slave. A child born in servitude is poor and not contractually obligated to the landowner. They could leave.

@EndTheFedRes The difference is like a person buying a product they where tricked into thinking they needed and later finding out they didn't, And a person who's pay is garnished to pay for a service they don't even receive or want. they both suck they both wind up with you losing money but one is forced on you and the other you were a will partner(at the time at least).

Slaves worked under the cloak of hopelessness. Work long enough and we will give you money and land. Is different then Work because you are all alone in this world. But if you choose not to work we will beat and kill you and your family brutally.

The old divide and conquer ploy seems to work every time... Even today poor white people glean that they are better then poor blacks.

Humans get power and do anything to keep that power. The founding fathers saw this and because of the age of enlightenment chose to split the powers. In a way protecting them.
