@TheAfricanmanbutWhyt pass. Give it a try. It might be that there is no game in there afterall, or that the game isn't sitting properly in the mechanism. I am no expert so I suggest if this does't work for you then take your console to a specialist.
@xboneava It shouldn't./ As long as you leave the s warranty sticker in place. It was actually the guy on on the line at Sony who told me to try this when I told him of the problem after they agreed to replace the console. If in doubt give the Sony helpline a call, they were super fast and very helpful with me, unlike many call centres they actually have some common sense and will listen so try calling them about it first to be on the safe side if you're unsure
This just happened to me idk why though because it isn't even a year old and i take great care of it. All i did was take a game out and put in mag and it wouldn't play so i tried to take it out and it made three beeping noises and I've known that PSX have had problems in the past so i wasn't that frustrated.
Thank you, this works. However the disk stock inside had some glue from label so i needed to stick another disk and then pulsh down the disk inside with the other disk, after i felt the one inside that went down is when i manually eject
I tried this but now theres loads of shaking going inside of it. Sounds like broken bits clattering around Is it something busted? I'm so pissed off its awful
@MrMattyvibes I don't know, however it certainly doesn't sound too clever. I tried to preface this video with a warning only to use this only if there is no other way of ejecting discs. In my case it had YLOD and was being replaced. Maybe try taking it to a shop for a professional to take it apart and have a look.
@Jbirtwisle Thankyou for your reply. Not more than a day out of the box & my disc was jammed, so I was a little annoyed hence rushed into ways of trying to retrieve it and unfortunately somehow caused a major upset to parts of the disc drive mechanism. My ps3 is now in for repairs so hopefully I will have it back in time for xmas. It's my own wrong doing & I should have taken heed to your warnings. Certainly a helpful video though regardless.
@TehSyncHD There isn't a screw in there, at least not one that needs removing. As far as I am aware all you are doing is using the screw driver to operate the disc eject/accept mechanism. If it doesn't work first time try a few different size screw drivers. You'll know when it goes into the slot properly
@AIphaWoIfOne Not sure. I haven't tried it myself. Other people have commented that after trying this their playstation didn't accept discs. When I did mine I followed the advice of the guy on the Sony helpline who said this was a last resort to get them out so thought it would be best to let people know it might not be wise to do this unless they have to
@KCpanda816 tough one. I only really put this vid on to help people whose PS3's are essentially a write off. Before trying this I would maybe take it to a shop to see if anyone can help. If it's still under warratny then give Sony a call.
@Bcloribel Not too sure about the 160 as mine was a 120. Inside the hatch cover there should be a hole just big enough for a small screwdiver to fit into, rather than there being an actual screw
@baraphilip the one I was using in the video is manufactured by Draper and it's a philips head. I'm not sure of the size of the exact size of the one I was using as I'm no expert handy man but I've seen other vids where people say you need a size 'double zero'.
@Claymuch sorry dude, from the comments it would appear that this hasn't worked for everyone. Maybe take it into a shop, or if you're feeling brave or you are replacing the console have a look for other videos showing you how to disassemble the console.
what do u do if ur ps3 dosnt take it in at all as if theres a disk? cuz mine has a game stuck in there but in dnt thave a small screw driver and when i put a game in all the way it fells like a disk way in the back
@positiveemotions you don't have to press the screw driver in particularly hard, just make sure that it goes into the smaller slot within the hole. If it's not working then maybe try a different size philips screwdriver. You should feel a little resistance as it goes into the correct slot
Thank you. For seeing this not only I got my CD out but you fixed my ps3 inject button (: I pressed the button and my CD was stuck inside. Kept telling me there was like no disc in so thanks (:
@xPS3vsXBOX360x Think mine is the 120gb (goes to show how much expert attention I pay to these things!), however I think the mechanism would be the same for all slim models....anyone else want to advise?
another cd came out . pressed the eject button again and another one came out. I couldn't believe there was 3 disks stuck in there. I didn't have to tighten up the screw again or anything. Its working just fine now. thanks alot, Dallas, Tx.
man, thank you soooooooo much!!!!! My little boy stuck 2 cds and 1 dvd in my ps3 when I wasn't looking and I thought that the whole thing was broke. I did what you said thinking that it was only 1 dvd stuck in there. It didn't come out all the way but it came out enough to where i could see it through the slot. I used a cd to bring it out the rest of the way, and i thought i was done. plugged it back in, tried to stick a cd in it, but something was blocking it so I pressed the eject button and
@HonduranBastard once the screwdirver is in the right place the mechanism will turn both ways. As my PS3 was bust (YLOD) I couldn't tell you if it will then work properly
@Jbirtwisle Its a easyer way to get the disc out do the fan test. unplug the back hold down the eject button plug it back in you got hold the eject button until you hear the ps3 turn on then let it go then the fen test will end after 20 secs you unplug it after it beeps then plug it back in.
@15rc15 I've not heard of that happening before. Some people have said that after they did this they had problems getting discs in again, whereas some people have said they have done this and been able to use their PS3 as normal again. In any case I would only use this method to retrieve a disc from a console that is not going to be used again (In my case my console was due to be replaced the following day uder warranty).
Hey bro 2 things how small does the screwdriver have to be and also i tried it a couple of times now and the disc still hasnt came out yet any other tips to this video or what to do? and do i need to put force into the turn or not? please respond soon i need help!!!!!!
@exy78469784 No need for too much force, if the screwdriver is in the slot it should turn out pretty easily. The screwdriver I used is a philips head. I don't know the precise spec I'm afraid but it's the smallest in my box and isn't much wider than a match stick. As I say on the vid one from a christmas cracker should be about the right the size. It needs to be small enough to break through into the small dimple inside the initial hole.
Clear concise, great tip, by turning the screwdriver in the hole you are actually manually revolving the eject motor, this will not harm the drive, however if the machine is dead then you have nothing to lose, also since you have not tampered with the warranty seal then you can still send the console back for repair
yo.. i did this and it worked.. but dude.. now when I insert my disc it makes a wierd sound... does that mean I have to screw it clockwise to tighten whatever it is I screwed to get my game out.. this sound scares me because i just got my ps3.. need some expert advice..
@jessnchua I'm not sure if doing this doesn't permanently affect the mechanism which is why I only reccomended doing this as a last resort, in my case mine got YLOD and was due to be replaced. If you want expert advice I'd suggest taking it to an electronics or gaming store for someone to get in and have a proper look. I'm sorry I can't help further.
Hi that was great, my ps3 isnt returning any cd, i think a kid put two cds in there by mistake, will this work for that? if not, is it a good idea to open the ps3 up? cheers!
My problem goes a little deeper though. It seems the manual eject didnt work for me. My kids shoved 2 dvds in at a time and they are jammed. Do you think I can take the blueray player out and lift the top off to take the disks out that way?
@ericjakob I really wouldn't like to say. I've never tried. I'm no expert on these things an only put this vid up after I found this little trick worked for me having been told how to do it after ringing Sony helpline. I think there are videos on youtube showing how to dismantle a PS3 but my opinion is that it could be a bit of a risk if you are wanting to put it back together again and have it working.
@ericjakob Cheers mate. Was more about saving time than money (Sony said it might take 6-8 weeks to get the disc back). Although I think I recall them saying it would be free of charge.
@dragonguy58 Not sure, I haven't tried but I would turn everything off properly just in case. I would reccomend it's unplugged properly in case the system tries to resist you turning the disc out manually.
thanks man, some other noob was doing his vid and his quality was shit as! i couldn't see but your vid was clear as crystal and i got my CD out no problems! :) so thanks again
thanks a lot mate. It works. Shame I found your video after I tampered with the seal....lol then again I am about 4 months out of warranty. keep it up. The hole in question is not visible because its covered by foam material. Just press the screw down as far as you can and start turning.
@sungsam26 no worries, thanks for the feedback. Not sure if getting rid of the sticker truly voids your warranty or not but I thought it best just to leave it alone!
@MrFsinner Wouldn't have a clue how to do one. My PS3 was broken and under warranty so as far as I was concerned I was going to have a new one and do what I could to get the game back
@DheaKDS It shouldn't. Mine was under it's original 12 month warranty and when I rang up to report the YLOD fault they said they would replace it. When I asked about getting the game out they said I could either wait for it to be returned by them or suggested I tried this before the replacement arrived. I got it replaced under warranty no bother. If it breaks under warranty then it needs replacing regardless of what you then decide to do about retreiving the game
Look , my 3 year old brother put in an Ultraman CD ( not DVD and not Blu Ray and not a ps3 game either ) while it was off , If I do this . Will it work and will it damage my ps3 ? and after we counter clockwise it , must we anti clockwise it back so it will return back to normal ?
@DheaKDS for some reason this was flagged as spam so I apologise for late reply. I would only use this if you cannot get it out with any electrical power. I have only used this on a PS3 slim when it completely died. If you put the disc in and turn it back in a clockwise direction, the disc will go back in. Whether it will still work is unknown to me.
@wuanoooo sorry dude, not really sure how using this method might affect the system. I can only really suggest taking it into a games/electronics shop to see if anyone can repair it. I posted this because my console got YLOD and was due to be replaced meaning I wouldn't see the console again and potentially wait up to 8 weeks to get the game back.
Meh, I did this and now my PS3 makes a loud chugging noise whenever I try to insert any game. I was hoping I was gonna be able to get the game out without sending it to sony but seems I'll still have to do that >_>
@Sprauulz Isn't working for me unfortunately. I can't get the screw to go as tight as it was from the start, it seems to be the same tightness no matter which direction i screw it.
@demyx16 Not sure as I only used it on a dead PS3. Try pressing the eject button if it's still alive and then trying it. Otherwise this should work in reverse to get the disc back in. Couldn't say if it will work though
@Jbirtwisle hi. im in quite a desperate situation. my ps3 is perfectly fuour nctional but my disc is stuck inside . i tried your method after an unsuccessful fan check and i heard the same clicking noise as you but the disc remained inside. plz help
@razzorheart77 Someone has commented below that it started coming out after 20 turns or so. Maybe keep turning it for a while but if it is definitely not coming out I can probably only suggest taking it to an electrical store or games shop to see if they can help. Despite posting this I'm afraid I'm no expert in how these things are assembled. Good luck
SAVED MY LIFE BUDDY THANK YOU!!! bought a second hand game that was a bit (wasn't overly) sticky on the label side and wouldn't eject after first go. My ps3 is over 12 months old so i was willing to try anything, thanks heaps!
Hello mate, to start let me thank you for your vid, helped me a lot :D
But I have a question for you: does it void warranty if you do this? My PS3 Slim died on me yesterday (only 2 months old)... Apparently is a power source problem. And died with the GT5 inside. So I took it out after seeing this vid... but now im sorta afraid it voids warranty since there's some sort of seal over the screw you turn... Can you tell me please?
@HanRyo611 Your PS3 should be under a 12 month warranty starting with the purchase date. Therefore retrieving your disc in this way shouldn't really matter as you have got it back after the Playstation broke down. Have you spoken to Sony to arrange a new one to be delivered? If so a courier will just swap them over. If Sony ask just be honest and say you retrieved it after it broke down.
Well I haven't spoken with Sony, since they don't work on weekends the lazy bums ... But I will tomorow, and will explain everything. I just pray to god I get a swap instead of waiting for repair because I really really wanned to get into the GT Academy competition, and can't with my PS3 dead lol
@HanRyo611 yeah the Sony helpline is really good (when they're open) really quick to get through and very helpful. It was they who suggested I could do this myself after they told me it might be 8 weeks to get the game back from them!
@BCUboi to be honest I'm not entirely sure. Some people have said that it makes no difference, however when they guy from the Sony helpline mentioned carrying this out he said you shouldn't do this unless you have to as it can apparently damage the mechanism. I suppose it's just a disclaimer on my behalf.
@JakDax2112 That's a bit strange. Not too sure about that one I'm afraid as the clicking sound kinda indicates that the mechanism is turning and should be spitting your disc out. If you're out of warranty perhaps try taking it to a shop. If the PS3 is to be completely scrapped maybe look to dismantle and get that sucker back!
Thank you very much for making this video. It works like a charm. Do you by chance know what would cause the disk to not come back out? I do not have the yellow light on my PS3, mine just makes a whirring sounds and refuses to eject the disk. But it will accept them, just not get them back.
@BRAWLLUIGI Greedy little PS3! I'm afraid I don't. When I was having the yellow light problems with mine and trying to find what might be happening I did read on a few forums that people were having the same problem as yours. You can always give Sony's helpline a ring, they are super quick and helpful. If it's still under warranty they may be able to replace it.
@TheMightyGondi Yeah should still work. All you're doing is manually operating the existing mechanical gismo (I'm clearly no expert!). As long as your PS3 hasn't sutained any sort of impact damage which may lead to the disc inside being scratched or damaged by the mechanism as you attempt this you should be fine. If like my mine, your PS3 got YLOD, there really is no other option to retrieve it.
yo man this fucking SUCKS my ps3 slim 120ghb or whatever has a bbootleg dvd stuck inside of it and idk if its becuz its a fucked up dvd or the blue ray lens thing is off track or what but the dvd plays and when ever i press eject it makes no noise .. ive done what this video tells you to in the past and it WORKED BUT NOW it doesnt , prolly stripped the threads or suttin but WTF if somebody can help comment msg me ...and just so yall know NO WARRENTY FML!!!! maybe try a different screwdiver to make sure it's small enough and definitely slotting into the inner hole (it should start making a clicking sound as it turns). Otherwise maybe take it into your local electronic repair or games shop
whether it was to be the first time such a strange noise?

@jessnchua I'm not sure if doing this doesn't permanently affect the mechanism which is why I only reccomended doing this as a last resort, in my case mine got YLOD and was due to be replaced. If you want expert advice I'd suggest taking it to an electronics or gaming store for someone to get in and have a proper look. I'm sorry I can't help further.

@Jbirtwisle
Hi that was great, my ps3 isnt returning any cd, i think a kid put two cds in there by mistake, will this work for that? if not, is it a good idea to open the ps3 up? cheers!
IMnotSAS 6 months ago
@IMnotSAS I wouldn't think you will be able to retrieve 2 discs this way. Best take it to a professional and see if they can help you
Jbirtwisle 6 months ago
My problem goes a little deeper though. It seems the manual eject didnt work for me. My kids shoved 2 dvds in at a time and they are jammed. Do you think I can take the blueray player out and lift the top off to take the disks out that way?
ericjakob 7 months ago
@ericjakob I really wouldn't like to say. I've never tried. I'm no expert on these things an only put this vid up after I found this little trick worked for me having been told how to do it after ringing Sony helpline. I think there are videos on youtube showing how to dismantle a PS3 but my opinion is that it could be a bit of a risk if you are wanting to put it back together again and have it working.
Jbirtwisle 7 months ago
Well done. Very clear. Very helpful. Bravo. You've saved alot of people a lot of money with this and probably pissed off Sony and their shareholders
ericjakob 7 months ago
@ericjakob Cheers mate. Was more about saving time than money (Sony said it might take 6-8 weeks to get the disc back). Although I think I recall them saying it would be free of charge.

hey i found that a small eyeglass cleaner kit has a flathead screwdriver that will take out the annoying little screws by the power and eject buttons

@dragonguy58 Not sure, I haven't tried but I would turn everything off properly just in case. I would reccomend it's unplugged properly in case the system tries to resist you turning the disc out manually.

thanks a lot mate. It works. Shame I found your video after I tampered with the seal....lol then again I am about 4 months out of warranty. keep it up. The hole in question is not visible because its covered by foam material. Just press the screw down as far as you can and start turning.
sungsam26 9 months ago
@sungsam26 no worries, thanks for the feedback. Not sure if getting rid of the sticker truly voids your warranty or not but I thought it best just to leave it alone!

@MrFsinner Wouldn't have a clue how to do one. My PS3 was broken and under warranty so as far as I was concerned I was going to have a new one and do what I could to get the game back
Jbirtwisle 10 months ago
thanks alot mate, i thinks some kids ps3 and he gave me 30 quid haha :D
roscoe474 10 months ago
and 1 more thing , will it break the warranty ?
DheaKDS 10 months ago
@DheaKDS It shouldn't. Mine was under it's original 12 month warranty and when I rang up to report the YLOD fault they said they would replace it. When I asked about getting the game out they said I could either wait for it to be returned by them or suggested I tried this before the replacement arrived. I got it replaced under warranty no bother. If it breaks under warranty then it needs replacing regardless of what you then decide to do about retreiving the game
Jbirtwisle 10 months ago
@Jbirtwisle Thanks for the reply man , gonna try it out and see if the disc comes out .

DheaKDS 10 months ago
@DheaKDS for some reason this was flagged as spam so I apologise for late reply. I would only use this if you cannot get it out with any electrical power. I have only used this on a PS3 slim when it completely died. If you put the disc in and turn it back in a clockwise direction, the disc will go back in. Whether it will still work is unknown to me.

It work but now the disc dont want to go in what should i do?
PLZ answer
wuanoooo 10 months ago
@wuanoooo sorry dude, not really sure how using this method might affect the system. I can only really suggest taking it into a games/electronics shop to see if anyone can repair it. I posted this because my console got YLOD and was due to be replaced meaning I wouldn't see the console again and potentially wait up to 8 weeks to get the game back.
Jbirtwisle 10 months ago
@Jbirtwisle nevermind it start working :D
wuanoooo 10 months ago
Thanks, worked for me
I was also able to put my CD back in and it ejected with the eject button, so i think my PS3 is completely fixed
Although when i started turning the screwdriver, nothing happened for the first 20 turns, but then the disc finally started popping out
so for you guys trying this, just keep turning if you are hearing a small clicking noise of some sort and eventually your disc will pop out

Meh, I did this and now my PS3 makes a loud chugging noise whenever I try to insert any game. I was hoping I was gonna be able to get the game out without sending it to sony but seems I'll still have to do that >_>
Higification 11 months ago
@Higification - I think you jus gotta turn the screw the opposite way (tighten) n that disc drive chugging noise should stop.
Sprauulz 11 months ago
@Sprauulz Isn't working for me unfortunately. I can't get the screw to go as tight as it was from the start, it seems to be the same tightness no matter which direction i screw it.
Higification 11 months ago
But how do i puut the disk back in? do i have to send it to sony?
demyx16 11 months ago
@demyx16 Not sure as I only used it on a dead PS3. Try pressing the eject button if it's still alive and then trying it. Otherwise this should work in reverse to get the disc back in. Couldn't say if it will work though
Jbirtwisle 11 months ago
@Jbirtwisle hi. im in quite a desperate situation. my ps3 is perfectly fuour nctional but my disc is stuck inside . i tried your method after an unsuccessful fan check and i heard the same clicking noise as you but the disc remained inside. plz help
razzorheart77 10 months ago

Sprauulz 11 months ago
Hello mate, to start let me thank you for your vid, helped me a lot :D
But I have a question for you: does it void warranty if you do this? My PS3 Slim died on me yesterday (only 2 months old)... Apparently is a power source problem. And died with the GT5 inside. So I took it out after seeing this vid... but now im sorta afraid it voids warranty since there's some sort of seal over the screw you turn... Can you tell me please?
Thank you ;)
HanRyo611 11 months ago
@HanRyo611 Your PS3 should be under a 12 month warranty starting with the purchase date. Therefore retrieving your disc in this way shouldn't really matter as you have got it back after the Playstation broke down. Have you spoken to Sony to arrange a new one to be delivered? If so a courier will just swap them over. If Sony ask just be honest and say you retrieved it after it broke down.
Jbirtwisle 11 months ago
@Jbirtwisle Thank you for you swift response :D
Well I haven't spoken with Sony, since they don't work on weekends the lazy bums ... But I will tomorow, and will explain everything. I just pray to god I get a swap instead of waiting for repair because I really really wanned to get into the GT Academy competition, and can't with my PS3 dead lol
HanRyo611 11 months ago
@HanRyo611 yeah the Sony helpline is really good (when they're open) really quick to get through and very helpful. It was they who suggested I could do this myself after they told me it might be 8 weeks to get the game back from them!
Jbirtwisle 11 months ago
@HanRyo611 No it dose not void your warrenty,My game got stuck once and arranged to send my game in to sony and they told me this was possible
VoidHedgehog213 11 months ago
what happens if this is used on a healthy ps3?
BCUboi 11 months ago
@BCUboi to be honest I'm not entirely sure. Some people have said that it makes no difference, however when they guy from the Sony helpline mentioned carrying this out he said you shouldn't do this unless you have to as it can apparently damage the mechanism. I suppose it's just a disclaimer on my behalf.
Jbirtwisle 11 months ago
Never had this problem with my PS3 Slim, thank God. This trick is good to know. ;)
ITCombat 1 year ago
It didn't work. It was clicking as I was doing it, but the disc still didn't come out.
JakDax2112 1 year ago
@JakDax2112 That's a bit strange. Not too sure about that one I'm afraid as the clicking sound kinda indicates that the mechanism is turning and should be spitting your disc out. If you're out of warranty perhaps try taking it to a shop. If the PS3 is to be completely scrapped maybe look to dismantle and get that sucker back!
Jbirtwisle 1 year ago
Thank you very much for making this video. It works like a charm. Do you by chance know what would cause the disk to not come back out? I do not have the yellow light on my PS3, mine just makes a whirring sounds and refuses to eject the disk. But it will accept them, just not get them back.
BRAWLLUIGI 1 year ago
@BRAWLLUIGI Greedy little PS3! I'm afraid I don't. When I was having the yellow light problems with mine and trying to find what might be happening I did read on a few forums that people were having the same problem as yours. You can always give Sony's helpline a ring, they are super quick and helpful. If it's still under warranty they may be able to replace it.
Jbirtwisle 1 year ago
@Jbirtwisle
Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, my PS3's warranty just ended this January, so perfect timing. I will contact Sony, I appreciate your help.
BRAWLLUIGI 1 year ago
@TheMightyGondi Yeah should still work. All you're doing is manually operating the existing mechanical gismo (I'm clearly no expert!). As long as your PS3 hasn't sutained any sort of impact damage which may lead to the disc inside being scratched or damaged by the mechanism as you attempt this you should be fine. If like my mine, your PS3 got YLOD, there really is no other option to retrieve it.

maybe try a different screwdiver to make sure it's small enough and definitely slotting into the inner hole (it should start making a clicking sound as it turns). Otherwise maybe take it into your local electronic repair or games shop
