My father and I were able to visit this plane when it was at its home airport in Oklahoma City several years ago on several occasions. "Miss America" is not an "original" Mustang. Its wings were clipped for racing purposes. They destroyed a piece of history way before the crash.

In addition, the "clipped" wings are simply removed at the production break, and the stock tips/ailerons could be added back at any time the owner wished. People on youtube that argue about this shit and complain about wrecking planes number one don't have 2 million dollars just to buy the plane and number two don't have the money for upkeep. As the proud owner of a t-28 and an OV-1A which i know is not anything near a p-51 in price i know the cost of upkeep on a warbird and you can't afford it.

dear DD,,thx for having correct info and sticking up for Miss A...the engine blew during the race at about 100' up, no power and on fire, he pulled way up, turned and wash put fire out, he came all the way around and dead stick landed,,not a scratch on him, plane was fixed after time. when he started racing 1969 there were 30 unlimited pilots, when he retired there was only two still alive. i was there that day,,,he's my dad.
