What I do is put the shuttle in a retrograde orbit then fire the OMS until it starts to slow down and lose velocity.

i struggle with reentry of the atmosphere i can do takeoff, get into stable alt, dock, undock ,and de orbit burn but when i get to 80km for re entry and go to 40* it doesnt stay at 40* it then doesnt hold :( any tips ??

It's been a while since I have used Orbiter but when I filmed this reentry I used an addon that helps control the deorbit.

Before that addon was available there were different addons that assisted with maintaining the 40 degree angle of attack but we used to have to do the rest manually. I remember having to try and do the lot manually at one time but it was next to impossible.

I'm sure if you check out the orbiter forums there are addons that will help you achieve a stable and safe deorbit

@Becker67 thank you , i know how to re enter and everything now and ive got that problem sorted out ^^ but when i set up its all ready to stop re entry and KSC or Edwards but doing the 40*and all different angles ends up missing florida and ending up in like Africa or something :) any ideas about that problem :) ???

@kirza94, With the stock orbiter, you just have to get as high an attack angle as you can when doing the "S" turns on entry. it is a lot of work, but it can be done. If you can't master this manually, try the AUTO FCS add-on, which will do everything from the de-orbit burn to putting the shuttle on the runway.

is the Rendezvous Pitch Maneuver really necessary to deorbit

rendevous pitch maneuver is used when on approach for docking at the space station not as a deorbit prep. They take lots of photographs of the heatshield to make sure it is intact and undamaged.

So for flight safety rules it is now used to ensure the shuttle is safe to return. They do other scans prior to deorbit anyway.

The rest of your questions require a lot of information. Check out the Orbiter site and manuals. There are great guides for getting to the ISS etc and how to operate the many different screens etc.

Just remember it aint a game it's a simulator and like all good things they take some time to master.

Can you take the shuttle to other planets? I never can get out of the orbit of Earth, even when I start at ISS.

To leave Earth orbit you must have enough velocity (speed) to escape Earth's gravitational pull. There are ships in orbiter that will allow this but the shuttle was never designed to do so. In theory with enough 'speed' any object can leave Earth orbit, The shuttle is incapable of generating enough speed on it's own or even with the external tank.

The engines are not fired manually in the video they are initiated and shutdown by the autofcs system.

If you want to do it manuall i believe it is the enter key.
