  • cnt wait for mario party 9

  • @SilverOmegaDotCom there is

  • I have a question about Normal 4:3 TVs. I have a big TOSHIBA TV. Is there any way I can change the TV setting to Widescreen 16:9 resolution? If so, reply back.

  • It's not online, It's not widescreen.

Why was Mario Party 8 such a fail?

  • Most modern LCD TVs should not have a problem with burn ins. The blue bars on each side are ugly though. I don't understand why Hudson didn't make it 16:9. Wario Land Shake it had the same problem.

  • I've had Mario Party 8 for a few months, and I've never seen those colorful bars at the side of the screen before. For me, they are always black.

  • that's no "true 16:9 widescreen"

  • Who cares if he made a mistake about LCD burning.. Thats the point of the video idiots...

  • nintendo epicly failed

  • @Wiintendoh ...hudson, not nintendo!!! why does everyone think nintendo made the game?

  • @olmnut Maybe because Nintendo made Mario and stuff.

  • @Wiintendoh i know, but the game actually says HUDSEN ON THE BOX!!

  • @olmnut That's nice.

  • Thanks that was pissing me off cuz my kids play that game alot.for 50 buck they should have had that game with all the new stuff to work with widescreen tvs

  • widescreen is better

  • LMFAO LCD CANT BURN IN, DUE TO THE TECHNOLOGY ONLY PLASMA TVS CAN BURN IN, GAWDDDDD

  • This is not 16x9 real. This is stretched 4x3 picture. The original 16x9 pic is those with stylish pillarboxes.

  • Does this work for all games or just Mario Party 8?

  • Despite Rumor, Fact: LCD screens cannot get burn in. There is nothing to "burn" "in" most of the "Burn ins" on youtube are the result of damaged TVs not the result of "burn in" as indicated that the "Burn ins" do not actually pertain to any static images on screen.

You should correct that misconception on your video. Also, with newer plasmas it is apparent that burn in is less of a concern.

  • i live in europe and theres no blue or black bars no matter what! why is the us version 4:3 only :(

  • it doesnt improve gfx?

  • my tv always has black bars at teh sides i try switing back and forth all the time but it keeps it in the lines so standard looks bad and wide good but the black side bars always there?? help?

  • Usually I play on an older fullscreen TV but sometimes I play in the living room on the widescreen display and all the menus are in widescreen but the minute you enter any kind of gameplay you get black bars (I don't know about the US version it's like that on the PAL one anyway)

  • Changing the Wii screen settings is percisely what I did. In widescreen mode, Bowser and DK appear on the title screen, in fullscreen, they don't. Apparantly there's been no talk of a Mario Party yet and it's been almost two years since 8 came out. You think this might be the last game?

  • This isn't really "widescreen", all it's doing is stretching the 4:3 image across a 16:9 TV. But when it's something like Mario Party, image distortion isn't really a big deal, and I suppose it is better than risking burn-in.

  • the newer plasma tvs have an anti-burn in technology, so burn-in shouldnt be a problem if you recently bought it.

  • why didnt nintendo make it in ful screen.

  • @johndmgs They did. Full screen means 4:3 or standard definition. On a widescreen TV "Full Screen" will center the image as a "square" with black bars on the side. This method in the video stretches the video to get rid of the bars. a great example is how stretched that coin looks at the end of the video.

Widescreen format will fill the screen of a wide screen TV, but will also be formatted correctly (16:9) so the image will not be distorted.

  • im getting a wii, i hope ot her games support real widescreen, not just crop the image with a background

  • thats why i dont like plasme tv

  • Hi.. i need help why are his sidebars (the ones in the video) blue and when i play mine on widescreen they will always be black and i dont know how to change them please reply i need to know about it, they disctract me 2 much! tnx

  • Your Wii might be set on 4:3 mode. The blue bars only appear when you have your Wii set to Widescreen. I also believe they updated the game to remove the bars but I'm not sure as I no longer own this game.

  • this helped alot thanx

  • Helpfull, but Its soo lazy on the developers behalf! Its the same story with Resident Evil Archives, same borders around the screen while playing on Widescreen. Unforgivibly lazy! Nice video.

  • The minigames are in 4:3 xD

Mario parties 3 and 5 are still my favorites :D

  • When do I come out? lol

  • Mario Party 8 just didn't get enough effort put into it. They could have easily made it 8-player like MP7, (one player holds the Wiimote, the other the nunchuk) but they didn't. They had very few minigames compared to the other games. They also had only FIVE boards. And, very few characters to unlock (only 2). Also, most of the minigames were plain stupid. Not to mention terrible graphics (even for the Wii). It was completely for money. Oh, and so was MP:DS.

  • They should just combine every minigame from MP 1-3, spice up the graphics, give us around 16 characters, bring back 4 boards from Mario Party 1-3, and call it

    Mario Party Retro

Best seller if they did this, and they wouldn't have to come up with too many ideas, just a new story mode pretty much.

  • Wow awesome, I wish they'd do that... we need some fun new video games to play.

  • How do u know????

  • Know what...?

  • That there is going to be a mario party 9?

  • I didn't write that, but anyways, I'm sure they'll make one, like for the DSi or maybe Wii or something... you know, MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!

  • Oh, my bad, haha...

Just confused me because they haven't given any signs of releasing a new one. Which is obviously stupid as hell, because its one of the easiest and fastest ways to make lots of money.

Just like the Pokemon games, the title is basically all they need to sell millions. Mario Party 8 being a prime example, because lets face it, the game could have been 10x better.

  • Totally. the game sucked compared to what it could've been... so few minigames, with only about 20 that were smart, the rest being boring and stupid. I completely agree with you!

  • this mario party 8 wasn't that great :(

a lot of negative points :( the widescreen is just one of them.

I hope the mario party 9 comes pretty better

  • puta era algo tan facil...XD... gracias men lo malo es k asi la pantalla wii se ve mas largo

  • i don't think there will be a mario party 9 but you never know there could be one

  • mine dont burn it not widescreen tho lol

funny thing is my widescreen is a computer/ tv so if i watch mario party vids will it mess it up? lol jk

  • That happened to me. Someone told me to display a pure white image on the screen and leave the TV on overnight. Next day gone.

  • A better solution would be to play on an LCD

  • It can still happen on an LCD. The difference is that it can be reversed on an LCD screen.

  • it's called "image retention" for lcds

  • A better solution - don't play this cack game in the first place!

  • i have widescreen tv and mario party 8 and it DOES NOT HAVE ANY BULE BERS by the way

  • mine too

  • even mine.

  • Not really a stroke of genius.. but guess its okay solution for those that really fear burn ins that much :p

(u could be using a Plasma from 2005 for all I know).

But burn ins arnt as common.. (just recently purchased one my self, Samsung a650..

But have been playin on my dads LG for past few years.. Me and my bro abused the hell out of the thing.. If something is on the screen for a few hours, it wont burn in.. even for a day (but no ones thats careless). they leave a indent for awhile

  • but nothing really big.. Pretty good especially how old my dads plasma is..

I can only assume mine will be better :P

(not like anyone will play Mario Party 8 for 24/7)..

Alas.. Nintendo not having Widescreen for Mario Party was pretty stupid

  • Well the PAL version which have is sorta ok It's not Widescreen but just has black bars not those hideous blue ones which i guess is ok...still why no widescreen Ninty (or Hudson)

I'm still wating for mario party 9!

  • i am waiting for mario party 9 as well.

  • nice vid :)

  • wut did you do at 2:01?

  • Changing the display aspect ratio on the TV.

  • oh.. thanksXD

  • nice tv

  • nintendo owes me a new tv

  • So you've distorded the image to get rid of the side bars?

  • Yup :)

  • I dont have those blue borders... I have big black ones. lol

  • Then need to adjust your TV's aspect ratio to something like Widescreen, Super Zoom, Anamorphic, ect.

  • I also have this. My tv is a lg and its 42" 720p

The ratio is set to 16:9

  • Thanks I'll try to do that. thanks again

  • Mines a Flatscreen will it have those lines please answer i need the imformation

  • It may, the best way to to give it a try. It most likely will so you need to be aware of it.

  • I dont think widescreen is better for gaming u have to more your eyes alot more with a widescreen than standard.. its annoying seriously..

  • my plasma is 5 months old i always get burn-in when i play 360 but they go away. but i know when this t.v gets older theres going to be that day when the burn-in stays for good. its a samsung.

  • same here..i get like blue discolouration on my screen when i play games for too long.

  • on 1:02 it kinda looks like the bars started to burn in....maybe...maybe not...idk

  • it was probably a little image retention

  • thats the problem is a pain in the ass to be switching over the settings again and again everytime u want to change game

  • rofl u cant see the burn ins

  • You use Final Cut Pro? Cool. I use Final Cut Express.

  • i dont think i'd like to play this if the aspect ratio is all mangled, stretching it to fullscreen and such.

  • I heard that in a plasma display, to remove burn in, you should put it on to a static channel for im gussing for a few hours and that should remove the burn inage.

  • i like left mine on pause all night :(i got like a burnt image but it soon dissapeard :)

  • so the burns arnt to bad?

  • for ur info lcds dont burn in but plasmas do not lcd

  • Yes this is true. Plasmas can burn in images, LCDs can burn out pixels or wear the screen unevenly.

  • looks like 4:3 stretched, result is an unappealing picture but bearable I guess.

  • what tv model is that?

  • It is a Phillips Magnavox 42" LCD flat panel.

  • dang when u update yr wii they fixed that problem

  • thanks for the help

  • I believe it is infrared light either coming out of the sensor bar or being reflected from the Wii remote. Either way you can't see it with your eyes but a camera can pick it up.

  • How do I make the blue bars come out, I only get black bars on my 16:3

  • If you have black bars then you need to adjust your TV's aspect ratio. You probably are in 4:3 and you need to change it so something like "Automatic," "Panoramic," "Super Zoom," and so on. Keep pressing the aspect ratio button on your remote until you see a desirable picture format.

  • hmmmm...i dont remember having those blue bars when i had this on widescreen :/

  • yea, those blue barswhere never there.

  • oh yeah now i remeber. DAMN IT! i hate how a few wii games are not 16:9 widescreen like ALL of the ps3 and 360 games >:( i dont get why they put the blue bers in this game

  • loooooooool wow.

  • What's screen burn?

  • it makes whatever is left on certan tvs be there for a long time.

  • Really? I'm European. What happens with the screen then. (stretches out, pan & scan, TRUE widescreen?)

  • Dahhh philips lcd

  • thanks

  • Misleading title. "True widescreen" is when the game is produced in widescreen. All you've done is stretched out a 4:3 picture. Still a useful procedure to prevent screenburns, though.

  • Maybe I should change it to "Truly Faked Widescreen." Although, I do say in the video information that the image is stretched out/converted to widescreen. The title is more for search purposes as most people tend to search for "widescreen" and/or "true widescreen." At least that is what I did when trying to find info on how to fix this. Didn't find any so I posted the video :)

  • I hate stretched widescreen, but true widescreen display is pretty cool. But since widescreen mode in Mario Party 8 only shows blue bars on the sides, why don't you just play in regular screen mode? Plus, if plasma TVs are so good, why do you have to worry about burn in? :/

  • If you play in 4:3 on a widescreen TV you get black bars which also can ruin your TV. The thing with plasma is that they aren't good, that is why they are so cheap now. If you want a flat panel you want an LCD or the soon to be LED and OLED displays.

  • Oh, I see. So, with LCD, you don't have to worry about burn in? And what does "LED" and "OLED" stand for?

  • Any video game has the potential to kill a TV. The aspect ratio error in this game is of particular interest as it is a constant ongoing occurrence throughout game play, not just a flashing effect that occurs only for a short period of time.

  • Oh, I see. Thank you. ^_^

  • i got a new plasma, very nice cause it has anti burn in technology and it has 1080p. i put the disc of mp8 into my blender. the sparks were funny!

  • Okay it's me again, just want to say sorry if my grammar isn't the best. I'm from germany. ^_^"

And yes i meant "no need to worry" forgot the 'need' >_<

  • I'm going to buy MP8 next week.

Iwant to play MP8 in the true 16:9, not in that "fake"-16:9.

We have a LCD at home on what we play video games.

But now those messages make me worry, can the LCD burn in if I turn the game into 16:9 (in the way described here, I don't mean the 16:9-option of the game)?

If it only burns in with the game-16:9, there's no worry for me.

    Someone can tell me? I don't want to kill our TV with a game, my father would kill me. T_T;

  • LCDs will not burn-in. However they can wear unevenly so the black bars are a minor concern but not a catastrophe if you play for long periods of time.

  • Oh thats good cause I play Wii on a projection LCD. I know it doesn't make sense-- I'm playing NINTENDO on a SONY TV

  • cool i dont have a plasma tv so i can use my wii freely

  • whats a burn in and what does it effect

  • See the video information; it contains a link to a Wikipedia article on burn-in. Beware of it especially if you have a Plasma display.

  • people listen to this video, i whish i had seen this earlier because the bars burnt into my plasma and i have to get a new one but dont worry if you have an lcd cause they dont use phospher technology so it wont burn in

  • On that terrible note for those here that have bought Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition the same type of bars are present so burn in can occur. Be warned and be aware of how much screen your game is using during normal play. This unfortunate incident is an example of how mediocre game design and lack of attention to detail can severely impact and ruin other devices. I am terribly sorry for your loss, perhaps the manufacturer of the TV can fix it for you if you have a warranty.

  • overscan is where some of the image is croped. its a ordinary thing in most tvs. it might say the percent of the screen that is shown in the manual.

  • wats the overscan percent on your tv?

  • I have no idea. Not sure what exactly overscan is though. For Mario Party 8 I use Automatic (aka Panoramic), or the Widescreen aspect ratio on my TV.

  • Don't confuse burn in with image persistence. Unlike CRTs, LCDs do not suffer burn-in. Yes, an image can appear to burn-in on an LCD, but unlike with CRTs, it is reversible. Plasma on the other hand, is another issue entirely. That said, there are other ways to reduce the effects of burn in that don't involve distorting the shape of the image.

For the record (not that it really matters in this case), I still prefer CRTs over both LCD and plasma.

  • Hi I´m getting Mario Party 8 today and we´re going to play it at a friends house (he has a widescreen TV). Can you also prevent that "phosphor-burn-in"-thing, by switching-off the TV for some seconds?

  • Yes, that will work too, it gives the screen time to rest. But because the bars on the edges are black those pixels (at the edges) are not being used so the channel changing tactic works better. This prevents burn-in and uneven wear of the screen. It is just something to be aware of, don't worry too much about it or lose sleep over it. It is just if you're playing for a LONG time (over two hours) it can cause problems.

  • Ok, thank you :)

  • wonderful!

  • ok thank you so much so my tv will not burn

    thank u

  • ok thank you

but if we dont have a widescreen tv were not doing that or we have to also

  • Not really, no. This is only because on widescreen TVs the picture, even when converted to widescreen, still does not fill the whole screen. It will fill a 4:3 standard TV so you don't need to be worried.

  • ok i understood but i dont have a widescreen tv i have like a old tv small so what i got to do is do that and after if i play mario strikers for example i changed it to widescreen ok and also for the 30 min you just like go to wii menu and after put it in like another place for 30min and after we can go play but do we have to do this all the time or its just 1 time

  • Okay, this process only works on a widescreen TV. If you have a standard 4:3 TV you will only be able to play in 4:3, if you change it to widescreen on the Wii the picture will be distorted. Going back to the Wii menu is not enough to prevent burn in. You MUST pause the game and CHANGE the channel to a channel that uses the full screen. You SHOULD do this every hour to half hour of play. You can search Wikipedia for "Phosphor burn-in" and that will give a good explanation.

  • and i dont understand the put something else in 30 min:S help me plzz because when im going to get the wii & mario party 8 im going to change that but i dont want to like break the wii or anything

  • i dont understand the burn thing:S:S:S:S:S

im getting the wii & mario party 8:D

  • The burn in is just a problem that affects TV sets when a fix image is shown for long time (as in this case the vertical borders in Mario Party)... it also would happen if you leave a DVD in pause on the same image for long time... on Plasma TVs the problem may result in a permanent damage, in other TVs watching normal moving images should be enough to bring the brightness to usual standards.

  • i'm so glad i seen this. i already changed my settings before i seen this but i never though about the burn in of the side-bars. you saved my tv. good thing i haven't played it too long (only about one game at a time) so i should be good.

  • nice job

  • hmm, I was thinking of doing that, good idea though

  • Yeah, it is pretty simple... almost too simple. I almost didn't post this simply because it was so easy, almost stupid. I then decided to (post) because those who don't know allot about how to manipulate aspect ratios would appreciate it. And then again for those that didn't think of this trick.
