  • so...nick jonas can actually sing. NICE:)

  • Most awkward scene of the whole concert. I cringed while watching this.

  • Samantha has the face of Lea Salonga but the voice of Frances Rufelle.... i'm confused with her performance. Her face is all smiling throughout the song...but she got beautiful eyes though.

  • @Sibzist Bear in mind that she's probably just happy to be this close to marius and just wants to enjoy any last moment with him

  • the part when nick kinda puts his hand on the side of samantha's face then strokes her hair looks really unnatural and awkward...

  • They're really quite good. I really like this side of the Jonas. I'm not a huge screaming fan, but I am of the musical hahah, but he really played it well.

Very talented, but she should have acted a little less perky, maybe a bit closer to him,

but she reminded me a lot of the Eponine I saw, and she was very good!

  • seriously, would you people who have never done theater shut your freakin mouths? A.) they're singing into STATIONARY microphones, so you can't do things like "fall into his arms" without losing her voice or risking knocking the microphone over. B.) You don't truly look at the other actors in a performance. You "fake out" so your voice projects toward the audience. Even on the 10th anniversary edition, the singers don't look at each other during the song.

  • singing way too damn fast - they look blind, not even looking at each other even tho they right next to each other

  • This is terrible. They're not good enough for Les Miz.

  • I can't even with Samantha rubbing her thumb against the back of Nick's hand and Nick keep pulling strands of hair from her face. So darn cute.

  • I would've never known Nick could be singing on broadway

  • @happymojo108 Go watch the 10th Anniversary and you'll see how :]

  • Why did they have to chose a Les Mis song? These are beautiful, passionate songs that people will take years to perfect their performance of. These actors/ singers are good, their music is fun and entertaining... but the two can't mix.

  • @frazadoodl they didnt choose the song, they sang it as part of the musical. It just so happens that they are both in les mis.

  • it just sounds dry.

  • I don't like both in these roles.

    She sounds too dramatic

    and his voice is so...soft.

  • I'd want to be her just so i could hold his hands and have him touch my face :3 but this song makes me cry EVERY EFFING TIME

  • @k139x same the bit where he touches her hair i'm like aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh

  • @emmanutt5 WANT

  • Not bad, Nick Jonas, not bad. You win this round.

  • @MyDarkAngel710 , idk, i think walking backwards out of the light is pretty dramatic

  • She was amazing when she was on the search for Nancy and Oliver on BBC :)

  • @dwarflover63 She was amazing when I saw this in the Queen's Theatre on the West End yesterday, maybe it's because she isn't actually looking at him?

  • I'm not a Jonas Brothers fan, but DANG Nick Jonas is fine both in voice and acting.

  • I must say, I was scared when I found out Nick Jonas was playing Marius. Especially give his signature "whine" while singing. But I must say he was surprisingly good. His voice sounded very grown up and "broadway" here. Good Job!

  • I have to say Im rather impressed by samantha barks. She almost reminds me of Lea Salonga(my fave eponine)

  • Anybody could be Michael Ball, but forget about it! Everyone gives their personal touch, don't you think?? What I like abut Nick is the youth that he brings to the character. Poor boy, look at his sad face during the song...it breaks my heart!!

He reminds me by the way of a young Richard Gere, haha.

  • why did i NOT know that Nick Jonas can ACTUALLY sing?? hahaha

  • I think the director should have had Eponine in his arms, but maybe it was something to do with the microphones, in most of the concert you'll notice that there is usually only one person per microphone, particularly the soloists. Also, they seem to have been directed to look out at the audience rather than at each other most of the time.

  • i think its cool how nick played gavroche when he was little and now hes back as marius, but i agree with fetchgirl101, i dont like concert version. its not the same. the only difference between concert and play is acting.

  • sorry but this version is pathetic compared to the 10th anniversary..... Nick didn't even hold Eponine and that is what makes this scene...

  • Loved this show; great performances; especially Samantha Barks. My only criticism is that Marius should have held her as she died in his arms. That adds so much more. Still loved it though.

  • ...this... >__> its not the same unless shes dying in his arms and he's actually THERE with her. its strange.

  • This scene has always touched me, but without Eponine dying in Marius' arms, it just isnt as heartfelt and emotional

  • ....

    *breaks down crying*

  • oh man I have seen the 10th year show and the death scene of eponine was soo soo soooooo much better in the 10th year version this is nothing compared to it!

  • @huswsimonbla you're damn right!!! The 10th year show... IS WAY WAY WAY Better than this.

  • Nothing beats Lea Salonga's version. I like Lea Salonga as Eponine, but I guess we all grow old.

  • oh. god. it's. everywhere.

    oh. no.

  • I'm so glad that Nick didn't do that whiney thing with his voice here. He sounds so much better in things like this. :)

  • lets not compare the 2 please because they are are both great in their own ways!!

  • the 10th anniversary cast was better! Lea Salonga was better, that's why they even begged on their knees for her to return, so she played fantine! hahaaha just kidding.. but it's true, Lea should just play all the parts of the show. then it would be the greatest show on earth... or in heaven,,, or in hell... whatever. Lea Salonga is the best! :)

  • I hate the people who rip these actors and this concert apart. A.It's a concert. There isn't supposed to be much acting. Sure, they did some blocking, but they're not going to do the same things as in the play. B.I'd like to see the people criticizing them go and sing the same songs. And C.These people are talented. If they weren't, they wouldn't have been picked for the show. I mean really. Can't anyone appreciate it for the entirety of the show anymore? -_-

  • @SmallDarkAndDreary

    TOTTALY TRUE

  • @SmallDarkAndDreary tbh i don't agree with you. okay, the are good singers, but

A: they already have success and don't need to also hog the rare opportunities that others might have had

B: there are much better singers out there who don't get any credit and deserve a break

C: your points don't even really make sense

  • @SmallDarkAndDreary I know what you mean, and they are talented, but they could have connected a little more. Look at Lea Salonga and Micheal Ball's performance together. I just wish that they'd connect.

  • @SmallDarkAndDreary YOU IDIOT... THAT'S WHY IT IS CALLED MUSICAL.. IT IS COMPOSE OF SONGS AND DRAMA.... STUPID.. MORON.. FREAK!!!!!!!

  • Ugh at the lack of emotion when he says "oh god it's everywhere"

  • Love this singing but this is the worst acting impression of this song. She doesn't look like shes wounded at all, and he doesnt seem upset as he should be. They should be holding eachother, wrapped in eachothers arms, not him slightly touching her arm. Like really... really.

  • @brittaneyUSA well you have to cut them SOME slack, they did have to stay by their mics, and they had to sing directly into them....

  • @ADubLoveZP thats true, unless they have body mic's but I wish their body language would have been a little more emotional but it is a concert and not a play so I guess it doesnt matter, just my opinion.

  • I thought Nick did a very good job in this. Both of them have amazing voices. One of the Saddest songs in the show but one of my faves. I know it is a concert but I do wish he had his arms around her

  • This is my favourite song in the musical! Sadly, nothing could ever compare to Lea Salonga's version. The Eponine in this has a nice voice and put forward a very good effort, but she couldn't quite hit the low notes and her acting wasn't comparable to Lea's. Also, I feel like Nick Jonas was not a great Marius. He tried, but his voice is too weak and his acting too forced. Anyway, Lea and Michael will always be the best in my mind.

  • @citinzenlen i never said u could sing better then him i was talking to the ppl who said that they could sing better then him and nothing can ever be better the original cast and the 10th i just wish i had been alive to see it like my parents lol

  • @citinzenlen i never said u could sing better then him i was talking to the ppl who said that they could sing better then him and nothing can ever be better the original cast and the 10th i just wish i had been alive to see it like my parents lol

  • Sorry but not a patch on Leah Solanga & Michael Ball.

  • I think you also need to take inconsideration that this is a CONCERT! Not a show! Its basically just the music.. So him not holding her or the show not being "Acting Wise" is understandable since this is a CONCERT! Not a show! A CONCERT! I was never a big fan of Nick Jonas or any of the Jonas brothers but he does a great job at this... Coming from the biggest MUSICAL THEATER nerd and Les Miserables.. Of course Michael Ball blows Nick out of the water .

  • ughhhh i love this scene. and samantha barks has the most BEAUTIFUL voice. nick too :)

  • love this song

  • Comment removed

  • Just watched this on pbs.

All along I thought the performer who played Marius wasn't as good as the other singers.... No wonder, it's a Jonas brother!

  • haha it wasnt "nicks" fault for not holding her hand..... obviously in this concert, the director had a different vision... dont blame nick if u dont like it.... blame the director if you must..... lol :)

  • Nick Jonas is good but all the perfomers in this production are above and beyond

  • Nick Jonas isn't bad its is just all the other people in this production are above and beyond

  • im sory but besides nick's questionable vocals, the sensuality and intimacy of the scene is totally ruined by the awkward staging!

  • @mrandmrsbenton my temper? ur the one posting stupid youtube comments about nothing! and im pretty sure my info isnt faulty considering i know nick's accountant....backk of

  • this sounded nice, but thats all it has going for it. i dont feel the emotion in it like the 10th anniversary's.Lea Salonga and Michael ball had such chemistry that honestly made me cry.it would have been so much more effective if he actually held her.i was so frustrated when he only held her hand!SHES DYING FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! shes asking you to hold her,and all you can do is hold her hand?come on Nick.all over the board i like the 10th anniversary better, but these singers are still incredible.

  • I actually liked Nick Jonas in this song. His voice is young, which is great for the character. I hope he does more musicals, because I prefer this voice to his JoBros singing voice.

  • @mrandmrsbenton when you can sing like anyone of the actors in this concert, you talentless piece of sh*t then you can complain about his voice. no one else has been so rude about this. he's a newbie to the stage and had 4 months to prepare for this part when others had 2 years! he's a worldwide sensation and you need to realize that no one needs your rude comments on this video.

  • @xoxkissmenickjxox

Yeah he's new to this, but that doesn't mean he should, no, has the right to perform in Les Mis.

And no, his voice range isn't suited to Marius and quite frankly, he looks constipated and whiny any time he opens his mouth.........

  • @mrandmrsbenton when you can sing anywhere near as strong as it take to be this part then you can hate all your freaking want....no one needs to deal with your harsh opinions...back off.

  • @mrandmrsbenton fag? sorry.

  • @mrandmrsbenton lol well fair enough we're all entitled to our own opinion. I definitely don't think he's one of the better actors out there, but I was just pleasantly surprised considering my expectations were pretty low to begin with :P

  • wow guys reading your hateful comments makes me sick, i agree nick's voice isn't as strong as it takes to be marius, but he's a person too so stop the hatefull comments. really, this is so mean. what has the world come to. be nice.

  • @araex4 i agree with you...not cuz im a jonas fan but because i doubt any of the haters can sing anything like this.

  • They're both good singers but they're not acting..the whole point of a musical - especially one as emotionally powerful as Les Mis - is to combine the two

  • He keeps making that stupid face.... in every one of his scenes. And the same stiff hand gestures. Oh, and he sings like poop. The 25th would have been quite good, if this kid hadn't ruined it. Sorry, he just doesn't deserve to be there.

  • its kinda heart breaking. </3 samantha....and...nick... :(

  • Eponine you're supposed to be dying! But aside from that HOLY Nick Jonas' voice has totally changed! for the better..lol when my friend said he played Marius I was like oh dear god but THEN he actually did a good job!

  • he definitely does not sound anything like a professional by any means..but i was impressed - he sounded like someone from a high school production, which is much more than i expected from a "disney pop singer." He did great & the 'accent' and facial expressions made it believable. I really like who he is as a person - despite all the attention he's been bombarded with throughout the years, he's remained classy, respectable, 'un-hollywood', & great role model for kids. Bravo :)

  • seems to me that they need microphones on their faces so they don't have to turn towards the floor mics. also, why isn't she dying? and for some reason nick looks a lot like my cousin here... strange.

  • The whole time I was watching this on PBS I was just annoyed that they weren't looking at eachother and they were look out into the audience. And they r dating so it shouldn't have been a problem. At least Nick looked like he was making an attempt to look at her. But anyway, love this song! Great job to both of them especially Nick! lol!<3

  • amazing. nothing beats the book though. eponine's death was the most amazingly heartbreaking beautiful tragic death i have ever read. this song does not do it justice. IMO

  • The singing is good, but she needs to act like she's dying in my opinion. At least collapse in his arms or something... (like in 10th anniversary concert)

  • @MyDarkAngel710 The script didn't call for it, the stage director didn't tell her to, the cameras weren't set up for it (:

  • WHY ISNT SHE DYING?

  • I don't think it's really fair to compare them to the 10th anniversary one. it's different, that's all. Not bad and to someone who doesn't really know much it sounds pretty enough. Nick's singing through his nose and yes they just kind of through him in there to get some fame, but hey it worked right? All of us watched it. So yeah, good job to them both for attempting it. Too bad people before you were just too awesome...

  • I feel they embodied Eponine and Marius soo much better than the 10th anniversary.

  • I feel they embodied Eponine and Marius soo much better than the 10th anniversary.

  • Alot of people have said the 10th anniversary version of this song is a lot better but I think they're just different. All AMAZING singers, but I think Samantha Barks and Nick Jonas are a much more youthful Eponine and Marius. They seem more like 18 year olds, in the 10th anniversary version, the characters seem like 30

  • I love Nick's broadway voice. LOVE IT. :) Never expected it. Although, i think without the true acting, and without Eponine dying in the scene, it takes away from the feeling and the emotion of the moment.

  • Nick Jonas is really good in this but his british accent makes me laughh , he keeps slipping in and out of it lol, still really good though <33

  • i'm not used to nick singing like this...WOW

  • Nick Jonas is HOT !!

  • Also, Marius is more of a quiet character. He never BELTS out songs like others in the cast.

  • I hate Marius almost as much as I hated Paris (character). They are both way tooooo whiney for me. Samantha is unbelievably amazing in this role and i will admit that Nick did soooo much better then I thought he would.

  • Diabetes. What who said that!

  • Nick Jonas' performance is the weakest among all the characters. This is supposed to be the easiest song for him, or anyone. It's pop ish. All he needed to do is harmonize. No high notes. No big volumes. No tricky tunes. But his performance is even worse than the barking version of On My Own done by the girl who he is having a duet with. Next to Nick, she sounds heavenly! He definitely did not get this role through his singing ability. It's his fame, family, showbiz network, friends from temple

  • @fjalfredo Yes, it is a different style of voice. But he is good. Yes, he is one of the weakest among the characters.. no he is not as good as the original, but don't go saying its because of all that crap that got him there, sure, it may have helped, but he was in Musical theater before he even stepped foot in the music industry with his brothers. in fact he started off in Les Mis. and the girl? in my opinion, she is better than the original girl.. (NOT LEA)

  • @fjalfredo You do realize he started off his career starring in the broadway musical production of Les Miserables, right? I am pretty sure he got this role because, 1. he can sing, and 2. they thought it would be nice to have him come back and perform yet again in Les Miserables. He was performing on Broadway long before anyone had ever heard of the Jonas brothers.

  • Guys are being really mean to them no it's not as good as the original but I would like to see most of u do better then that because I would get a kick out of u guys making fools of urselves! Don't say there's the worst singers u've ever heard if there ten times better then you!!!!

  • @memewee202 First of all, singing and entertaining is his job, not ours. Unfortunately his singing was not entertaining. It did not move me. People pay to see a damn good show performed extraordinarily. And Jonas or the whole 25th production wasn't up to par as the 10th. Yes, he could sing better than me or others, but we never claim to sing better. Only that we have heard much better singing/rendition from others. The only saving grace was to see the original cast esp. Mr. Colm Wilkinson.

  • @citizenlen give it up haters!!! it's a done deal. nick performed in it for what, a month, and now he's not. so you can stop whining. he was fantastic. and i somehow doubt that the casting directors would have cast him if they didn't think he could pull it off.

  • Nick Jonas exceeded my expectations, no doubt. Still, I don't think that this particular song can even hold a candle to the 10th Anniversary Concert performance.

    Seriously.

  • Comment removed

  • Nick exceeded my expectations. Stop all the trash, please. Would you rather listen to him sing like this or like he does for Disney? Yeah, I thought so. But more interaction, please?

  • both are talented I love Nick Jonas. and the other girl samantha is talented. at first i didnt understand what happened 2 her but now i get it. so sad :( but such talented peeps :)

  • They don't have mics on their clothes, like they would during a show. They have to keep their faces towards the mics standing on stage.

  • For those of you criticizing what he's doing in this whole thing Nick had played Gavroche as a kid when he was on Broadway. He has a connection to the show.

  • when i first saw this i was like.. "how did nick land this one?!" because his voice is so nasally and gross! but his voice is excitedly good! (: what a lovely surprise!

  • I think that " A Little Fall of Rain" without Eponine dying in Marius' is just kinda strange

  • @fetchgirl101 They did it better in the original concert.

  • if you think nick is not good, he don't deserve to be in les misérables DONT WATCH THIS AND DONT POST ANY COMMENTS

    thank you

  • I have to say I am adamantly NOT a fan of Jonas, but even I have to admit that Nick sound absolutely amazing. He should stay in musical show business, because, In my opinion, being in pop/rock is not his forte.

  • @hospitalgal101 Totally agree

  • Oh, for god's sake. I thought Nick was ok, even though i'm not a jonas fan, but the girl playing Eponine sucks. I'm better than she is!

  • @Oceandreams705 she's amazing. get a life.

  • @LilyRoseTulipDaisy Excuse me, I have a different opinion than you, doesn't mean I have no life.

  • you can really see his overbite/snaggle crooked tooth her LOL

  • i am not saying that nick jonas is not good....but he is just not good enough for something so big like les miserables!!!!!!!!

    my opinion

  • Hmmm. Surprisingly I haven't lost my lunch. His singing was pretty good, but the acting was pretty bad. On both of their parts, actually.

  • DONT DIS SAMANTHA BARKS!!!!!!!!!! BEST PONINE EVER (well apart from me ;) )

  • @meyouandsophie agree!!!

  • OMG, Jonas isn't great. But that Eponine is horrid. Her voice, her acting... what the hell?

  • @elgozador you're kidding right? Samantha Barks is amazing. :P

  • He is too good-looking for her. And she has an annoyingly nasal voice!

  • this literally brought a tear to my eye wtg Nick

  • gosh she took forever to die lol

  • his voice is better than on a record it left me wonderstruck

  • amazing job Nick!

  • This scene looks awkward concert style...needs to be fully acted out

  • The obsessive Jonas fan every time Nick comes on: WHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOO GO NICCCKK!!

  • OMG nick was so so amazing at this i can't believe he can sing Broadway...so beautiful!!! :D

    lol

  • Dont like sam, but nick is okay.

  • Who allowed these people to sing this in public? The whole thing is off...she's supposed to be dying. Instead, she sounds like she has the hiccups. The only thing Little Nicky has going for him is his looks. You would think that by now he would have gotten some singing lessons. The person that cast them and allowed this performance to take place should be arrested.

  • @GospelAccording2ME thats a horrible thing to say.

He did just fine. THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL SHOW! it is weird but its the "new show"

    where is your respect?

  • @JoBrosLover14 Where is my respect? Where is the respect for the people that created this show. It matters not if this show is old or now...bad singing is bad singing.

  • @GospelAccording2ME the respect is there for sure. this is a special 25th anniversary show. they tweaked it a little bit. Nick had strep throat on a few of those nights so perhaps his performance wasnt perfect. no one is perfect. he did great for having strep. he's had the training. he is a wonderful musician. I rest my case. (if you want to hear his better "voice" check out his role as Gavroche when he was little.

  • @JoBrosLover14 LOL He's (supposed to be) a professional. If he truly had strep, he shouldn't have been on stage. I admire how you're defending this talentless lad, but I think he's out of his league here. He should stick to shallow, safe pop music...which he does quite well. I stand by my statement that the powers that by should never have booked him. Just my opinion. Peace, JoBrosLover! :)

  • @JoBrosLover14 :) haha ok. thanks! Truce? you seem like a cool person!

  • @emmett8423 no he can't.

  • dude omg he sounds so wierd

  • is she dying in here?

  • @xStunningCloudsx shes supposed to be. In the play she got shot when returning from running an errand for Marius and she dies in his arms.

  • He breathes in the middle of his sentences and does not hold any of those notes. It drives me nuts!

  • OMJ!!! i love this boy soooo much!!! ♥

  • This is no where near as good as the 10th anniversary performance. However, for someone with no classical training at all, and for someone so young, Nick Jonas didn't do too badly.

And I don't know this samantha barks, and if she's had any classical training, but again, it wasn't as awful as I was expecting.

  • the 10th anniv interpretation of this song was moving. this present version is such a mediocre. Lea as Eponine pulled my tears. Marius, a gentleman comforting Eponine was admirable. These two? what are they doing??? They should have considered that this is a special anniversary production, and should have given depth of the character. I thought that you should surpass the original when you revive/recreate, but I bet this does not even match the rehearsals of the 10th anniv.

  • es una verguensa este video

  • Nick Jonas I LOVE YOU! ♥

  • This is exactly what I say about Nick Jonas everyday.... oh wait she was talking about Marius.....

  • stop hating on Nick Jonas. cause i don't see you there singing next to him

  • She never looked at him, did she? :S I admit he singed pretty well, and I agree with Infanticide, but still... he looked at her and she was only staring at nowhere.. besides that, in my opinion, she exaggerate a little bit when she was "dying"... idk. Lea Salonga will forever be the best Eponine! xP
