Sharon Luego (Miss Venezuela en el Miss Mundo 1990) fue la única en alcanzar la máxima puntuación (50) en la preliminar de ese certamen, y al final sólo quedó de Miss Fotogenia y 2da. finalista. En 1991, Ninibeth Leal (de Venezuela) en 1991 fue la única en alcanzar el máximo puntaje en la preliminar (58 puntos) y ganó la corona. Ruddy Rodríguez (venezolana también) en 1985 fue la única en alcanzar el máximo puntaje en la preliminar (36 puntos) pero al final sólo quedó entre las 7 finalistas.

@cachayyy Asi parece que era el protocolo del MW en los ochenta, pero ya en los noventa la cosa mejoro. La reina saliente esperaba sentada en el trono por la ganadora para coronarla... En las ultimas 3 coronaciones (2008 al 2010) la reina espera de pie a que llegue la ganadora, la felicita y luego se pone detras del trono para coronarla. Miss Mundo es super fastidioso, solo la coronación es medio emocionante aunque yo prefiero Miss Universo ya que hay mucha mas tension!!!

I have always said of Miss World (not sure how it works these days though) that if it is a conditional to be a Continental Queen of Beauty and off course a finalist to win the title, then it is easy to tell who is Miss World before she is announced. For instance in here, once USA (Queen of Americas) was called, as a result Iceland was the winner of the paegent because the rest of the finalist were none Continental Queens nor none of the Continental Queens left were finalists.

people don't have last names in Iceland. "dóttir" in icelandic means "daughter". Hólmfríður's dad's name is Karl so her "last name" is Karlsdóttir and her brother's, if she has one, would be Karlsson.

That's because most of us don't have last names. We're usually named after our fathers. For instance, Hólmfríður's father's name was Karl, hence Karlsdóttir (daughter of Karl). Men are named after their fathers too, but their names send with -son. Such as Karlsson, Jónsson and the likes. Hope that shed some light on our culture.
