  • Hi! I like this video. I'm a new knitter and was afraid of trying this technique, but thanks to you I see is much easier than dpn's. I have problems with my hands and trying to learn with dpn's was a disaster. Now I'm going to try with the magic loop. Again, thank you very very much, for you effort and for sharing your knowledge.

  • Thanks! I think it was from setting them down and not knowing where I was before!

  • I enjoyed the video and it "may" have cleared the confusion up for me. I just wish I could find a video of making a hat using magic loop that actually gets down to the nitty gritty of my problem, doing the decrease rounds near the top of the brim. It is driving me nuts thinking I can't do it because I can't find someone doing it in a video. I have learned to knit on my own and Youtube is the only way I can learn from a "knitter"

  • @SmoothFox1955 I agree with you! I'm having the same issues!

  • Thanks!!! :-)

  • First, this was really helpful for me. Second, "a tunnel for your kid to crawl through."

    That made my day.

  • That's a very clear demo (though a wool colour that contrasted with the background colour would have been even better). I'm not sure that magic loop will be for me, but at least I know how it works now.

  • OMG, I have been struggling with dpns for weeks now, getting more and more frustrated at them. Crocheting and knitting have always been soothing for me, but when I found a very small pattern (where you cast on only five stitches), I HAD to work it. And until I found this video, I was pulling my hair out. Thank you for letting us know about this method!!!

  • @00Tuesday I had similar experiences with the dbn. I can DO this with the magic loop. THANKS

  • can you do a video of knitting 2 things like socks or something using the magic loop or 2 circular needles? that would help me out a lot.

  • I finally got around to seeing how this was done after reading about it just about everywhere. Thanks for your clear explanation and I'm going to give it a go today.

  • Thank you so much for these videos, I would've never been able to learn to knit in the round without these videos!

  • Oh, and one more question. The glove pattern I have has cables in it and starts with a purl stitch. What would be the best type of cast on for the cables and should I knit the first row and then start the pattern?

  • How did you cast on? I noticed that your had a long tail left over, like in the long tail cast on method, which is the method I always use. But I noticed that your tail and your working yarn are on the same end of the needle and mine are always on the opposite end. Could this be the reason I can't seem to grasp the magic loop?

Also, I always knit the slip knot I used to start my cast on, but I have no idea if this is right. I have recently taught myself to knit and find a few things confusing.

  • No, I used the knit on cast on technique and the magic loop technique works for me. it could be that your needle is too short. The ideal length is 40+ inches but I learned to do it on a 32" needle any shorter than that and it becomes a big pain and almost impossible to do. Try a 32/36 inch needle and see how it goes. Also, be sure that the cable of your circular needle is VERY flexible, Boye needles aren't very flexible, try Susan Bates or Clover.

  • I'm new to knitting and this magic circle looks much easier then trying to make a hat on 16" circular needles. It hurts my hands. Do I still have to change over to pointed needles to finish the hat?

  • You are an excellent teacher. Thanks for making this tutorial.

  • I don't know if I'm doing it wrong somehow, but I'm knitting in the round on the circular needles, and it automatically seems to do the stockinette stitch...which I like...but after I go for a long time, suddenly it turns backwards so that the smooth side is on the inside and the bumpy side is on the front so that my work is split into two textures. I don't want it to do this and I've started over four times already. What am I doing wrong?

  • You might be twisting them, it happens or if you set them down in the middle of a row you might twist them working them backwards, hope this helps.

  • im trying some new techniques

  • this metod is good to make a hat ?

  • i'm making a hat right now!

definitely the best way..least confusing too

  • Magic loop is the ONLY way to go, as far as I'm concerned!
