why did negreanu go all in after the flop? if he didn't hit the straight then he had nothing and the odds of hitting the straight weren't too great, right?

Its a strong play to move in on the flop cause you have top pair and villian can be c-betting ak,aq,etc etc

If he checked, every card higher than 5 might have given Antonius a higher pair He hit an up and down straight draw so he had like 30% chances of collecting straight on turn or a river. Plus he had top pair. Another 3 or 5 gave him two pairs or a three fives. So he had pretty good odds of winning. It was very unlikely Antonius hit a set. Agression pays off... :)

you can play 10,000 hands or 1 hand daniel is going to play 8,7 suited and you stilll can get maximum pay out. THats biggest misconception in poker is the more hands you play the more action you get. If other players are loose at the table your getting action regardless.

the only thing he may have done wrong in those two hands was calling the reraise with a 3 5. having said that though, it may have worked that he may have been priced in to see the flop having already committed a certain amount preflop. the flop was big, going on the fact he has top pair, up and down straight draw, and the likelihood Antonius is playing two high cards, definitely an all in situation there for Negreanu, because he gave himself two ways to win by continuing being the aggressor.

@DubFishHD the second one was luck, but even then it's not like he made an all in call, he shoved and got called, had it been the other way around Daniel would have folded, he was obviously just trying to steal the pot with a semi bluff. As for the first hand he did nothing wrong he hit his flush on the turn without making any donkey calls and then value bet a perfect amount on the river.

Whats funny is that because you only watch negraneau play on television, people think that 35 and 78 out of position is smart playing because they always show negraneau making money off these hands. TV doesn't show you the boring hands, so most people don't realize that this isn't always a smart play.
