Wow, PJ is coming across as a grumpy old man. "We cannot build a small car that is worth a darn." I can recall when Conservatives were optimists. Tough to listen to a guy I used to respect.
@Claronium780 No, They just made GM Gov Motors. They didn't pay it back they just forgave the debt for 60% of GM. You need to do some research and not just listen to leftest news.
I would rather see 100 small companies competing for the privilege of selling me my next car than be saddled with 3 monolithic subsidized megacorps that are "too big to fail". Think of the amazing diversity and innovation we are missing out on because of the terrible policies of the past. I imagine if it had been a truly free market all along, we would all be driving incredible, beautiful, eco-friendly, super safe, high performance wonder machines by now. It's a shame.
Shouldn't we always refer to them as "banana Republicans," not Republicans?
Who else but "banana Republicans" could support unlimited executive power, family dynasties (Duvaliers, Bushes), secret renditions to torture chambers, mercenary armies, 100-year wars, warrantless wiretaps, McCarthyite witch hunts, and the end of habeas corpus?
You'd have to want to live in a banana republic.
Forget the elephant, Republicans, here comes the chaquita!
JAPAN IS THE WORST... Try buying anything other than a Japanese car in Japan while they go around the world taking advantage of FREE markets....and it will cost you twice as much for a Ford or GM built here in Germany.
Poverty is set at $23K /yr in the US. The Japanese are hiring paying $12/hr which is about $24K/yr .. while the communities around these plants are getting their taxes raised because the plants ARE NOT PAYING TAXES.
It is necessary, in some cases, to be protectionist in a free market.
I understand where you're coming from, and if you wanted an argument or a conversation, I would rather it happen over messages. Befriend me, and we'll talk, otherwise I make no other comment.
Funny .. he thinks it's funny that people are losing jobs ... but not one word about what got us in this mess, try UNFAIR TRADE, try STEEL DUMPING,try the fact that we are closing 30 Mfr plants this year that pay billions in US taxes and employ millions while we are letting Japanese Koreans Germans open Assembly plants and pay NO US TAXES and pay poverty wages. I see no humor in this video considering the millions of Americans who are losing there livelihood .This man obviously has no clue.
pjkPA, the people (besides you) are dumb and can't understand the fre market brought us here and the Repubs were the one that expanded family farms to corporate farms. jobs have gone overseas because of these idiotic libertarians.
Oh right, you're the only one smart enough to take the central planning of money, government intervention, central planning of agriculture, government enforced monopolies, etc, and call it capitalism. Then say that libertarians have actually been making all the policies and they were perfectly fine with Bush. You're so smart they should make you the next dictator.
There is very little difference between unemployment rates during times where free market or protectionist policies prevail. The free market does indeed cause people to lose jobs; but these are redundant jobs in redundant industries and the loss is only temporary. Because consumers save money buying cheaper foreign products they have more to invest in more lucrative industries, producing better jobs in better sectors. Folks like you endanger the prospects of honest, hard-working Americans.
I am sorry pjkPA could you tell me how the job market in say Argentina under protectionist trade policies?
Honda Toyota don't pay poverty wages you just think that a job at an auto plant should be able to support a family of 4 at the expense of everyone else.

Whoa, I don't think Ford took any bailout funds, so maybe this is a bit premature.

Ford took a bailout in 2006. Something like 20 billion.
