And have you seen how crazy people went over the worldcup? Great interest doesn't really capture that emotion, and a national team represents to much more than just your fav team. It is your country that is out there on the field. Go and search for USA Worldcup anthem here on utube and youl'll hear how US fans sang your national anthem. The whole stadium singing.. It really is something else, of course personally I sang the German Anthem :)

Yeah I've heard it all before, got a close friend who constantly tells me similar reasons as to why a) America rules and b) Baseball is so much more fun than football. Iam not American, and I think that Baseball is the most boring thing to watch. And hey, Navy, isn't the military constantly telling that individuals will become member of a team that works together? With that concept in mind, you would have great games between Navy and Army!

I miss the worldcup.. it will remain an eternal mystery to my why soccer isn't popular in the US.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it isn't popular --- many Americans followed the World Cup with great interest, even after the defeat of the US team, and there are several major league soccer teams in American cities. It's just not as popular as the "American" sports of American football, baseball, and basketball.

I can propose two possible reasons: 1) we, as Americans, like to be different from the rest of the world. 2) We're an individualistic society --- we place more emphasis on the superstars (the Joe Montanas and Michael Jordans) which define the American sports than the concept of a team...
