Before you touch the fuel system, it's vitally important to fix that exhaust leak first. That is likely causing most of your problem. Severe exhaust leaks can disturb and lean out the combustion. It's like putting headers on a Chevy 305 with a stock 2 barrel. I did that once and almost burned the exhaust valves in the process. Once you get the exhaust leak fixed, then make sure it's timed correctly, fix any vacuum leaks, and "then" go and adjust the carburetor.
@cadillacowboy1 In order of importance: 1.) fix "all" vac and exhaust leaks, 2.) Set the ignition timing and curve per factory manual (not a Haynes manual) if engine is stock. 3.) Verify proper fuel pressure and good filter. 4.) Adjust float level 5.) Adjust choke coil, fast idle cam and choke unloader 6.) Ajust secondary air valve 7.) Idle speed. You shouldn't need to adjust mixture if stock, unless the engine has other issues that need to be compensated for, or the carb may needa rebuild first
@cadillacowboy1 Oh one more very important thing to consider. Before doing all the adjustments I just gave you, get a real factory Chrysler shop manual for the truck. If we can afford a Haynes for 15 bucks, then we can certainly afford a real factory manual for 20 bucks off ebay. It's worth it. There is no substitute except for maybe a professional Mitchells manual. They can be found for cheap too since the year is so old.
Funny You mention it because I did use your videos before I cracked into my Q-jet! Turned out the Evap canisters (dual california setup..) had gone bad and were feeding charcoal into the bowl! Just needed a gooood cleaning and she ran like a dream. Still had the exhaust leak you hear in this (broken manifold) so I've since taken her apart again to put in some new headers/heads... still ongoing since I'm at school now!
I have an 86 royal SE with the 360 as well, except mine has no exhaust whatsoever. I uploaded a video on my channel of it. Sounds much better in person but It gets the point across on camera.
I have to say that yours looks like it's in better shape than mine is though. Mine has some nice bits of rust and actually has the same problem at times with the accelerator. Good luck with the project man. Good overall project just sucks finding any parts for it. I have so much trouble finding parts tha

I've got several Quadrajet how-to's on my Channel. Take a look, I'm sure you can make it run better than that if you are motivated to.
