This is such a Wonderful recording of Mr. Cassel. He and Gail were so special and I'll never forget the words of Mr Cassel at the end of my singing "Eri tu" in his livingroom in 1995 in that most reassuring voice of his..."You're getting a hold of some of these things really perfectly". He was a Great Opera Artist and Teacher-I miss him and think of him often.

Like some of my fellow students of Walter Cassel at IU, I really loved this man. He and Gail were two of most special people in my life. Walter and I were double-cast as Horace Tabor in an IU production. I learned every note, every gesture, every nuance of the role from him. Ross Allen, the stage director, told me to "Just do it like your teacher does it!" While I could imitate, I could never duplicate. Walter WAS Horace Tabor.
Walter sang this for me about a month before he died in 2000 (at age 90!) - it sounded the same as this! I, too, studied with him at IU, and the vocal intelligence he gave me during that time was solid and easy to grasp. He loved his students, his colleagues, and had a larger than life love for his wife, Gail - a love that was returned in kind. This is a wonderful recording - the best, I think!
