he Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is a proposed bill in the United States Congress that would prohibit discrimination in hiring and employment on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity by civilian, nonreligious employers.
On Jan. 20, the Obama administration, specifically Health and Human Services, made it known that it will indeed require, in the words of a U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops news release, "that sterilization and contraception--including controversial abortifacients--be included among 'preventive services' coverage in almost every healthcare plan available to Americans."

@ssol4569 That is the BIGGEST CROCK I have ever read. Have you even read the effing Bible, you idiot? Polygamy is all over the place in that thing. Moron.
Woman was created to be mans parnter and yes people cheat. Historically it is established there was the existence of polygamy among the Hebrews from Lamech, six generations from Adam, to about the time of the Babylonian exile. From the time of the exile, history is silent regarding the presence of polygamy among the Jews. By the time of the New Testament, polygamy appears to have been the exception and monogamy the norm even among the Gentiles and the Romans, and look at Matthew 19 v6
@ssol4569 Wow, so many possible responses to a defense that stupid. Take your pick from a few:
1.Oh, I see. It wasn't the NORM, it was the EXCEPTION among Biblical patriarchs. That means it was actually NEVER sanctioned by the Christian God. Ever. Except those many times.
2. Oh, I see. It wasn't the NORM, it just happened SOMETIMES. Since we would all have to get gay married if any gays are allowed to marry, this argument makes a great deal of sense.
Idiot, polygamy has been the societal norm and is practiced today throughout the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa. One man-one woman marriages is abnormal in these vast swaths of the planet. In fact, European countries are dealing with the issue b/c male immigrants are trying to bring over their 2d and 3rd wives. You mindlessly repeat slogans about "every culture" and "every religion" but it is pretty obvious that you never took the time to research the issue yourself.
@jbetp99: I'm afraid you're the uneducated one jbetp99. The Holy Bible is simply a record of human history. It even contains our genealogy as recorded in the Old Testament.
@ssol4569 Yeah, it also says the sky is solid and that people can produce offspring with animals. Ya think that's true? And why should I listen to you? Aren't you a woman? The Bible says I don't have to listen to you, then.
Now, please realize that the collected writings of a 2,000 year old cult are not an accurate record of human history and READ A FUCKING REAL BOOK.
What a bunch of asses. The debate among America's founding fathers as to the place of the church in government is well laid out and Tomas Paine's arguments won for a reason.
These 'arguments' by the religious right sound an awful lot like the same ones that resisted desegregation during the civil rights movement.
Finally, as to their 'rights to free speech', as the saying goes: your right to swing ends where the other guy's nose begins.
I have the feeling you haven't actually read the language of ENDA, which exempts religious institutions and employers as well as the military from this law.
That aside, this is the most ridiculous video I've seen in a while. "We have to always be fearful..." Run and hide!!!
You can also argue that discrimination also involves NOT doing something. It involves not following the law, which out of the mercy of the people who wrote it was designed to give people equal opportunities. JC said to love regardless. Definitely don't put an organized institution over your fellow human being.
How are religious people "forcing their beliefs on others" if liberals are forcing religious people/organizations to do things against their beliefs? If you have problems with what Christians believe, take it up with Jesus.
How are religious people "forcing their beliefs on others" if liberals are forcing religious people/organizations to do things against their beliefs? If you have problems with what Christians believe, take it up with Jesus.
They actually put it in the trailer? "The ECONOMIC burden on Christian organizations will b enormous from the very outset."
Idiots.
I'm pretty sure it's the government's job to prevent hurtful behavior. It's not "freedom of expression" to kill somebody, even if it's your belief that you should. But the government has to regulate that.
The sad part about everyone being able to record, edit, and publish video is that even the stupid idiots can make it look professional. These douche bags spew out nonsense and only the idiots watching (a la Glen Beck fans) pick up on the sound bytes. These fuel their hatred genes and get them high. Hopefully, it doesn't go viral and their testosterone kick into Timothy McVey mode.
This would be funny if it weren't so egregiously harmful. Didn't they say the same thing about the hate crimes law that was signed a few months ago? If it were true they'd all be in jail by now but they're not. Why? Because their predictions of gloom and doom are lies - inventions fabricated out of distortions and untruths designed to scare people into opposing this vital legislation without thinking. ENDA should have been passed years ago. ENDA needs to be passed NOW!!
what a joke...who would want to reserve the right to knowingly discriminate against gays and lesbians just because they are gay? Religious freedom my *ss; that's nothing but outright discrimination against a minority!
Don't you mean: "Did you ever imagine that you would be fired for [illegally discriminating against someone in the workplace based on their sexual orientation or gender identity in order to force upon others] your religious beliefs?"
I feel sick after watching this - the camera wobbles like an earthquake. I suppose Tony was using his personal camcorder for this film - perhaps the donations arent pouring in like they used to. First of all, ENDA specifically states that religious organizations will not be subject to the anti-discrimination law, just as MSA specifically stated that religious organizations would not violate hate speech if they preach against homosexuality. FRC is lying again, to gain donations.
But of course, the "Family Research Council" has no problem with the current laws on the books protecting Christians from employment discrimination. No problem at all.
For decades now we've outlawed job discrimination based on religion. Race. Sex. Disability. Age. National origin. Skin color. Hey, FRC, where was the outrage then? Is it just that you only support special rights for Christians?
answer: not bawl about how not being able to act like a bigoted shit is going to lead to religiojn being banned or something
i bet jesus would of loved if the roman empire had a policy of non-discrimination, then he wouldn't of been murdered for being a minority race in a minority religion
This is disgusting. These people are the people who would have been protesting the abolition of slavery. It's mindboggling to see these attitudes, this persisting idea that it's OK to treat other people as less, carry through in 2010. The last people in this country to be discriminated against are white, male and Christian.
Hate to tell you but My Christian Freedoms are not threatened and I don't see anyone Trying to take my freedoms, and my religious rights away from me.
It is time for us as Christians to take back Christianity from these bigots. They do not speak for all of us and it is time to stop letting them say that they do. I am not okay with them hijacking my religion and making it about fear. Pope John Paul used to talk about peace between religions and all people. Where has that gone? Let's bring it back.
Didn't we see these same LIES with hate crimes legislation? Aside from the fact that the rhetoric is intellectually dishonest, it doesn't even make sense. I would also remind Mr. Perkins that he cannot be denied employment for being a radical right wing Christian dominionist (by choice).. This is the same guy who acquired David Duke's mailing list and has spoken at white supremacist events.
Fear mongering is lame. Maybe if people used their minds to investigate for themselves what the bill actually says and protects instead of listening to garbage like this, we wouldn't have so many homophobic attacks on people who are just trying to live their lives like anyone else.
PS, the current version of the bill PROTECTS FREE SPEECH AND HAS PROVISIONS TO PROTECT RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS.
So... we can't discriminate against people on the basis of religion, and that's fine and dandy with these religious folks. But they want to keep their SPECIAL RIGHT to discriminate against people on the basis of sexual orientation?
Oh noes! They're taking away our god-given right to stomp on the faces of gays and teach other people's children about creationism! They're taking away our freedoms! Damn you, Obama!
What a horror! Employees subjected to HUMAN RIGHTS TRAINING??? I love how they never explain what ENDA is about (protecting people from workplace discrimination).
These people are stirring up unfounded fear, and trying to pick and choose who receives basic human rights. In a few years, these people are going to look like those who spoke out against civil rights for African Americans....pretty foolish.
Tony Perkins is a lieing sack of shit. If anyone should be silenced it this douchenozzle. This is nothing more than a cheap fund raising ploy.....Civil rights are for everybody....not just theocratic asshats like this.
What idiocy. There are already laws like ENDA in place in 15 states and more than 100 cities and towns. Some have been around for over 30 years. Last time I checked, religious freedom wasn't been abolished in Wisconsin, Hawaii, or New York.
Looks like the cranked up the fear-mongering to the highest possible setting. This has nothing to do with religious liberty and everything to do with discrimination in the work place.
Firing people and preventing them from supporting thier families is not "religious freedom." It's a sin and conflicts directly with Christ's commandment to treat others as we want to be treated. Why are large, anti-gay pressure groups deliberately disobeying Christ's commandments and smearing Jesus' face with the ugly stain of homophobia? The "religious freedom" they demand is one where the US is turned into another Uganda and gay people are subjected to government sanctioned murder.
I think it's a shame that a number of Americans embody an "us versus them" mentality. It's as if (1) LGBT Americans and (2) Americans whose religions condone homosexuality and transgenderism are unable to co-exist together and treat each other with dignity and respect. I am a gay man, and I would treat everyone with dignity and respect regardless of their religious beliefs. I honestly believe that FRC is fear-mongering, and that is certainly unbecoming behavior for any family.

Keep sowing the wind like this, and in 20 years there will be nothing left of your movement.

Wow. I guess the bearing false witness thing doesn't apply to fundies. What a bunch of filthy christian lies.

Firing people for not following the doctrines of your religion is not "religious freedom". It's the opposite.

Tony Perkins is a lieing sack of shit. If anyone should be silenced it this douchenozzle. This is nothing more than a cheap fund raising ploy.....Civil rights are for everybody....not just theocratic asshats like this.

Religious-based bigotry needs to end. It's totally unAmerican and is counter-productive to our society.
