Why are Americans obsessed with hybrids while in Europe diesel cars average 40+ mpg?

@FrencunoZeTroll In North America diesel tends to be more expensive and less available than gasoline. You normal see 1 or two diesel pumps for every 5-6 gasoline pumps at a station. Also I wouldn't say we are obsessed with hybrids, there are various non hybrids that get very respectable numbers...

@FrencunoZeTroll because Diesel is $4.00 per gallon while Gasoline is only $3.30 per gallon.

@sideslide23 The reason diesel is more $ is because the government owns alot of the gas companies so by having diesel cost so much it keeps people from buying it. Hybrid technology certainly isnt the "greenest" technology either but hybrids sell here in the US because it gets diesel-like mpg while the gas costs much less. If only our government had invested in the diesel business lol

@FrencunoZeTroll Diesel cars last longer than hybrid and has less mechanical cost than hybrid. we had to replace the battery in our hybrid cars, it would have cost us $5000 for a new battery without warranty.

When will ALL of Toyota's cars be hybrids or plug-in-hybrids? By 2020? The age of Oil will NOT last forever ! Why wait until barrel of Oil reaches $300??

@davisgreen2020 it doesn't make marketing sense to make a entire product hybrid for the time being. Toyota...like any other car manufacturer is in the business to make money-and if they did that then they wouldn't more than likely lose out on that gamble....
