  • it's interesting that Canada was one of the country's not effected to a extreme extent, yes there were job losses, but not nearly tot he extent of other countries. Canada is coming back strong and is recovering at a quicker and quicker rate. the Conservatives are keeping us afloat and way above many countries.

  • "Prime Minister, your government has lost the confidence of the house," says Layton. But boy, Prime Minister sure got it back quickly, didn't he!

  • I would either vote conservatives or green party then liberals on ndp.

  • As a Canadian for the last 20 years, it is horribly sad to see how politically passive Canadians are!

Somehow Canadians accept rising tuition costs, hike of gas prices, high insurance rates, deregulation of rent, ever-increasing taxes, and a multitude of other elements that would normally enrage the French or Americans or Europeans.

Though Canada is known for openness, tolerance, intellectual freedom, unsurpassed education (GO U of T, GO!), but Canada seriously lacks a feeling of NATIONALISM!

  • Yes indeed Eprince, For the last 40 years i have watched the unspeakable happen to my Canada, Crown corporations that cost the CDN tax payer billions, Handed down south to the Yankee masters and sweet deals given to the ministers all part of the rendering of Canada,What the Hell are CFR members doing to Canadian Telivison and Radio, We seen whats happened With that Tori dream NAFTA how quickly CDN resources have been not developed but aquired by these multinationals our own resources sold south.

  • Canada is dismantled by a weak Federal Government, which is run by inept parties that are pushing for the same agenda.

Paul Martin, Liberal, signed up for the North American Union, which was further systematized into Security & Partnership Act by a Conservative, Stephen Harper!

    Fact is stranger fiction!

A prime example is Canada's Governor General, of non-Canadian birth, who openly advocated separation of Quebec, which will spark similar moves of other provinces!

    A sad state of affairs.

  • Why is it horrible? Why would I invest any of my effort into politics. The government is a thieving, coercive entity that I did not agree to funding.

Also, centrally planning an economy does not work empirically. We must disolve government completely, or to the judicial branch. Get rid of unions, and open our borders.

  • If nothing else, many apathetic Canadians are learning about our political process : )

Let's see ... We elect Parliament; Parliament elects Government. A minority gov't governs at the pleasure / confidence of Parliament.

Harper's Budget lost the confidence of the House [Parliament]. When gov't loses confidence of the House, they honorably step down. That is parliamentary democracy.

As of yesterday, Canadians do not have Parliament - sad day for democracy.

  • To hell with the governer theres money saved!

  • NEWS FLASH!! Liberals are dumping Dion! Thank god! This shows how unstable this coalition really is. Your days are numbered.

  • i voted liberal but if were to vote again it would probably be for the conservatives

  • I really don`t think that the governor general is going to use any of her power to decide a leader, that will turn the blame onto her. The only way that she can make a government while not being the one responsible is call an election, which I think she`s going to do.

  • Can't wait to get rid of these coalition communists. Carpe Diem!

  • Much better than the crap on CTV and Global

  • They justify this by saying 63% didnt vote conservative. Funny, when the liberals were getting huge majorities with just 38% or 40% of the vote, that was okay. But now that the conservatives win 143 seats with 37%, the election doesn't count. Make no mistake, this is nothing but a power grab by a desperate party who cannot win in a fair election by the power of their ideas and argument, so they must seize power by back room plotting.

  • The bq's only purpose is to suck the canadian taxpayer dry before separating. So if this succeeds, we will have 3 eastern leaders running the government through a backdoor coup, ignoring the wishes of canadians who voted the conservatives into power and clearly rejected Dion, who would now become Prime Minister. What a slap in the face of all canadians. The liberlas are so arrogant that they believe that only they should rule this country and to hell with the election.

  • So even though the conservatives won a fair election only 6 weeks ago, the liberals began plotting days after the election to overthrow the legitimate government of Canada. This involved unelected has beens like Chretien and Broadbent plotting behind closed doors, with the aid of the liberal turned Rae, among others. Despite losing the election we have Liberals and NDP telling us they know whats best for us. Typical liberal/NDP arrogance. All this is being done with the aid of the BQ.

  • Being an American, I'm less familiar with Parliamentary systems. At one point in this report, something was said about one of the cooperating parties something to the effect of "(they) will not be part of the government, but have agreed to support the government." Does this imply anything substantive, like all their party members always voting with the government, or is it essentially just political rhetoric not really implying any substantive commitment?

  • i guess that harper and flaherty underestimated the opposition and the people. flaherty should resign for trying to force that - shit for brains - budget down canadians throats.

  • Isn't Michael Ignatieff a neo-con?

  • All pure CRAP!

The UN has ALREADY taken over. Their agenda is globalization, totalitarianism and management of the "peasants" by the "gentry", same as the 1400s.

Thats the very idea of what is going on globally. It is a "recapture" of the "useless eaters" by the bloodlines or "royals".

If you want to know who is a "royal", check videos which show WHO walks a red carpet.

  • Do you know what you're talking about? This isn't the states. Things are done differently here. We elect our politicians one person per constituency, and then according to what party they are, and what party gets the most seats in the house of commons gets to be the ruling party and the prime minister will be from that party. This is essentially what's happening.

    Peace.

  • I know exactly what I'm talking about.

    Good luck your thinking.

  • the UN is a toothless dog that cannot bark or even bite without the U.S

  • The US military has been absorbed into the UN. They are one in the same.

US citizens will soon witness this first hand.

  • yay! now legalize weed.

  • "selling off of government assets" - dead give away of a bought off government - Harper is a puppet for some very powerful interests

  • Conservatives were going to try to enact a number of new laws, including minimum sentences. Which has worked for the US!

  • Does this not scare anyone? I'm not afraid of an individual party, but that the Canadian vote is getting usurped! It makes you wonder though if we really need the NDP government or the bloc if when they are pushed together their banners turn liberal red. I voted conservative in the last election, and even though I did not want S.H. to have a majority (esp. concerning Afgan) I would accept a majority now since I think The coalitions take down of gov't is only for their own safety & not Canada's.

  • Bring on the N.A.U and the New World Order!

We are ready for them, and they shall be destroyed.

    ~KASP£ARFO

  • The concept of a united front has traditionally been very effective at kicking conservative ass...so long as the front holds firm.

  • Only 38% of Canadians voted for the conservatives. I am so sick of narrow minded conservative who dont know the basic workings of Parliamentary democracy.

  • Harper has never cooperated with the other parties. He's governed as if he had a majority, everything from the environment to the fiscal update. Fear mongering about the bloc ignores some facts. 1. They have been part of the political system for decades. 2. in the last election they never mentioned separation. 3. The bloc share many social and economic issues with the coalition.

  • NDP IN POWER YAY!... DON'T SCREW THIS UP LIKE ONTARIO, Bob Rea must be having fun, knowing that working with the NDP will factor greatly into how people vote in the next convention.

  • Down with the Corporate conservatives! Say no to big business controlling government.

  • yes to donating to the real news

  • You do realize that with more regulation, big businesses can control government more, don't you?

Er...I guess you don't. Enjoy your ignorance.

  • Are you stupid read the post! Read my post it says I am against big business and conservatives controlling government! Wake-up.

  • I did, and you're the moron. There's nothing wrong with big businesses unless there is a government to create trade barriers and ridiculous licensing. This creates artificial monopolies, oligopolies, etc.

If there was no government, the bigger businesses would be the better ones for the consumers. I think you need to re-direct your hatred from tories to government in general. Especially when tories are the most for deregulation, which is bad for corporations.

  • Deregulated! What are you smoking! Oh well It's apparent you are like the rest of the sheep! bah

  • Oh, I'm well aware that the tory philosophy works differently empirically. In reality, all politicians and political parties just strutter around trivial bullshit.

  • Steve out! Good.

Last week all 3 parties were united in asking for Omar Khadr release. I'm now watching how serious they are about bringing him home.

  • I loved hearing Harper call the Mr. Dion " a socialist who pals around with terrorists". Where have I heard that before? LOL. Perhaps if he had addressed the real issues canadians are facing instead of just more partisan politics, he wouldn't be losing his job.

  • The people rise!

  • Harper greatly miscalculated the result of his divisive throne speech. Instead of reaching out the the other parties to achieve a safe majority and execute a clear mandate, the conservatives continued with their harsh neocon-like style of hardball politics. The liberals finaly understood the consequences of appearing weak by continualy bowing to the conservative's wishes during the confidence motions in the last session of parlement. That's why Harper effectively started a coup on himself.

  • I love how the Liberals and Dion(who I have no love for, just saying) kept on getting bashed for being 'weak', etc, but here they are doing something quite brazen politically and... lol, oh the hypocrisy.

  • I'm interested to see, if the coalition comes into power, which Cons will cross the floor. There were 8 Con backbenchers that did not rise to applaud Stephen Harper on Monday and 2 Cabinet Ministers were conspiculously absent. Who knows who else on the Con side will be willing to go. Harper and Flaherty may also resign. The balance of power may end up shifting away from the bloc.

  • I would certainly hope so...

  • I'm actually not so afraid of the Bloc playing the role they will in the coalition. Besides their past separist ambitions, their policies are similar to the NDP. I was watching The Agenda last night on TVO, and there was a real consensus among the panelists that the Bloc, in accepting this coalition role, may have fundementally shifted from their original separatist mandate. It was a fascinating discussion.

  • I'm Quebecer and the separatist movement has reached its lowest point in decades. The separatist argument is only brought to frighten people. Don't worry! We're strong and free :D

  • GO NDP!

Harper said this was "a coup"??? A coup is not democratic, it's military, you right wing jerk!

Also coalitions exist in other countries. Would you call Germany's coalition government anti-democratic? I don't think so.

I hope people won't buy that!

C'est le moment de sortir les vidanges! - Take out the garbage!

  • I just found it: The grand coalition in Germany was formed on 1 December 1966 - There was alos the coalition between the CDU and the SPD with Schroeder and Merkel

  • Harper out! Dehors Harper!

Long live the Coalition! Vive la coalition!

  • Canada voted for a government. Since Harper can't, the opposition has been forced to. It did not have to be this way. In less than 4 years Harper has managed to unite both the right AND left. Good job Steve!

  • This is really really bad. I'm Canadian and I have no real love of the so call Conservatives over here. But the only piece of good news we've had is that they wouldn't deal out an economic stimulus package, and they would sell government assets. In tough times you tighten your belt, you do not start up the printing press!

  • And you don't cut back people's rights, or use the situation to attack the nations democratic institutions.

  • Woah woah woah...

Cutting back rights? Sucka, public servants aren't people, they're thieves.

  • Thank god, Harper's just selling our country at the moment, between the NAU SPP and NORTHCOM agreements we're maybe ten years away (and thats being generous) from being "America Jr". This is very good for everyone except Albertans. But really, like the tar sands are going anywhere, Alberta will still be filthy rich. Go Canada!

  • wow

  • The beginnings of a two party system? The puppeteers must be getting arthritis.

  • The problem here is, a lot of people who voted for their respective party out of the 3 (due to their diverse policies) will feel a little ticked. If an election happens it will gain more votes for the conservatives.

This the the first time I voted AGAINST the conservatives (normally I would vote for the Cons, but there is the NAU which I'm against)

The Liberals robbed us the last time they were in power. This all sucks for all Canadians. It's lose/lose.

  • By putting an emphasis on a resource based economy the Conservatives would rob us of a future. And I'm not talking about a few lousy million here, their policies can only produce serious economic damage.

  • Agreed, (BTW why am I getting thumbs down?? lol) Were you people asleep when they gave millions to their friends BEFORE the Conservatives came to power?

IF the Co-op will put money into creating jobs to allow the people to still spend, that would be great.

But I think Corporatism will win out here and they will just ship Bailout money to the Exects like the US has.

  • Take 'em down!
