I love this song the video. If you don't "get" the video, that's fine, but simply dismissing art with or without merit is something that should be kept to oneself unless they can elaborate as to why.
@wrarmatei lol it's a cool video but calling people bourgeois for not appreciating avant garde art is fucking retarded, you do know that avant garde art is funded and propagated by the bourgeoisie and petit bourgeoisie
@ikillhippies Once it is turned into a commodity and on its way to the mainstream, yes. You are missing the gist of my point and focusing on the last three words.
@wrarmatei ahahaha you're so fucking elitist. without the bourgeoisie harmony korine would never have been popular. abstract impressoinism, dadaism and mosternism were all made viable art movements by the bourgeoisie. coal miners are rarely patrons. you do know that korine for all his talent is mainstream as fuck. the only reason you are able to see korine's films is due to the commodofication of avant garde art, without commodification he wouldnt get the money to make his films
@wrarmatei cool response bro, you sound like any other boring WASPy suburbanite who's read half a wikipedia page on Marx and the blurb on the back of a godard compilation and considers yourself on the bleeding edge. you profess shallow, half baked theories about avant garde art (entirely a product of bourgeoisie) and communism or something? don't hold strong opinions without strong evidence
So, does anyone think this video means...anything? Not that it has to. I think the images fit nicely with the music and that's all that matters. But, the blackface? The dollar-sign glasses? The lynching/hanging? Any thoughts?
I don't know why I'm writing as this post is 4 years old, but I found the blackface, the lynching / hanging disturbing. Even with the black guy in it. (Is he one of the musicians? Cause Bonnie Prince Billy is waaaaaay white, right?) Seems like appropriation of a shallow sort?

@ikillhippies
Also, the "bourgeois" have a lengthy track
record of purchasing and supporting art for the
sake of fashion etc, rather than actually having
an understanding/appreciation of it. Making a whore out of something
does not equate respect or a deeper understanding of
what is being prostituted.
