Why the advertisement during Chinese new year is always either papa sick, mama die, son accident or daughter cancer? I like Pepsi advertisement this year very much! Very positive and cheerful! Gong xi fa chai!
Yasmin ad always very touching, this ad tell us to appreciate your parents when they still alive else when they are gone you'll be regret treating them bad.
During festival season like CNY, others than spending time cherising the moment with relatives, there is often one thing that Malaysian look forward too...and that's to watch the commercial by Petronas.
yesterday nite, my dad and i have some arguments, however, after i saw this ad, i realized that, i made a mistake. I must apologize to my dad as soon as possible, before it is late.
People always like that , they take everything in present for granted and regret in the future about the past .. would have been , should have been .. and other crap ... he's gone .. and u didnt treat him the way he supposed to be treated ...
sometimes i hate to watch petronas commercial but not because not nice to see....is too meaningful and touching until everytimes i watch it, my tears rolling down.
Yasmin Ahmad (July 1, 1958 - July 25, 2009) was a critically-acclaimed multi-award winning film director, writer and scriptwriter from Malaysia. Her television commercials and films are well-known in Malaysia for their humour, heart and love that crosses cross-cultural barriers, in particular her ads for Petronas, the national oil and gas company.
Wow, this truely brings tears to my eyes. I think after someone watches this they'll realize that their parents wouldn't be with them forever and you should value and endear every moment you spend with them.
So what if our parents have their little perks? They might not fit well into our perspective of 'perfect' parents, but they'll always be the man and woman who gave you life.
Life is challenging and most of the time we have to do something against our own will just to survive. When we realize the mistakes it might have already been too late...
Face your inner fears honestly and you should be OK very soon.... =)
this ad is amazing...i just lost my grandfather last week and watching this ad reminds me to appreciate those who are still living. good job petronas...
Chill out. Life is not always happy and cheerful. That is why we need to appreciate and be grateful of what we have currently. That's the moral of the story. =)
This ad reminds me of who I am, where I'm from. We all make mistakes but if we share our mistakes and prevent others from making the same mistakes again thus creating more happiness for others, don't you think it's wonderful?
Life is amazing and wonderful if you look at the bright side... =)
I can see that the message for this year is stronger, hits all of us... well...me especially. My sis told me the other day that she could start to see my dad's stubbies going grey and that made me tear a little. My parents are going old. It's great that Yasmin focuses on one character, the father as it creates a stronger impact instead of both the parents. The sepet actor is fantastic!!! Kudos to LB!!!
i just saw this on tv just now. it really moves me. This is real touching.. somehow every year, ad's from petronas never fails me. great job yasmin and everyone who created this. its great to see jason too. *THUMBS UP!!*
awesome message! but this year's ad feels a little more forced than previous years though.. still a nice reminder for everyone amidst the celebrations :)
Well, as long as it delivers what it is supposed to deliver, then it's a good thing, don't you think so?
I believe this is not just a message for CNY. It's a message for everyone, for the global theme of being grateful is truly significant especially in current times.
I believe we all like Petronas ads very much, don't we? Spread the love and the message that those videos convey. You'll be contributing to the well being of our society. =)
Simply because we are compassionate Malaysian with sensitive feelings and we care for those who are less fortunate than us. Only with true and genuine experience and observation could something like this be produced. =)
I can't agree more. These people from Petronas have a vision, that is to promote the well being of the society regardless of race and gender. I have the same dream and let's hope someday we'll be able to achieve that.
Malaysian ads have come a long long way and I believe it supercedes many foreign (1st world) countries. It is meaningfully subtle yet moves you profoundly. I have seen many foreign ads which theme have nothing to do with what they are advertising. Kudos Malaysians!!!

this story is based on 2 things:
the actor's real life regrets about his late father, and a japanese poem by shuntaro tanikawa, written for the poet's late father.
it may seem forced to you, but the emotions it contains are very meaningful to an ordinary person like me.
