  • They open on their own with the flex around the latch. Its very difficult to adjust out.

  • No biggie. That baggage door thing happens a lot, probably happened during rotation or touchdown. As long as it was a normal flight, it would be near impossible for anything to fall out. Thumbs up if the Pilot/Co-Pilot door on your Cessna popped open during flight. Happened to me once during take-off.

  • My puppy!, where is my puppy!?

  • oops? yeah oops for making this damn video..

  • Shane was High het forget lol

  • Goof ball. What about your walk around? Or Checklists? Or just common sense? lol Its okay though, we all make mistakes. :)

  • Checklists man...

  • Dunce? One must not smoke POT before he flies, I expected him to get out of the plane with a surf board and look at the camera and say "Surfs-Up" MMMEWWWWHAAAAhahahaha.

  • @cowboy6591 Why not ..i love flying High bro

  • 1:43 wtf plane

  • The prop is only ever too close to the ground if it makes contact with it.

  • Nearly impossible for that baggage door to open in flight any way. Same if a pax door pops open- to much slipstream keeping it closed. I too noticed that prop coming a bit closer to the ground than I'd like. One area where tail draggers have an advantage.

  • Ha, that sneaky pilot who does a low pass when the pilot isn't looking ;)

  • Haha the old Cessna Baggage Door. Probably the most flimsy bit of kit on any Cessna airframe. Not sure how the new models compare? Anybody provide input?

  • Baggage door open - no problemo, just a little more ventilation. But what about keeping back pressure on the yoke to take the weight off the nosewheel on rough surface? Just sayin....

  • "I knew I felt a draft..."

  • Nice prefight. Dumbass.

  • Exterior inspection..........UNCHECKED

  • I've seen that soooo many times in Cessnas.

  • Yeah elevator and door buddy

  • Shane lost all his underwere cause he did not close the damm door!

  • Thats right Shane, you didnt close the baggage door ;_;.

  • Storgerson, nice little video :) Don't worry about all the sad little idiots who hit the dislike button. People really can be that stupid. Happy flying :)

  • Hey ive flown this plane before when it was at Georgtown Airport. Where is it at now?\

  • @mrivera71 It was at gtown until a couple months ago. Genesis finally got rid of it, I think the engine was nearing overhaul time. I got my private license in that plane.

  • @storgerson I did my first solo in 65722. It runs...and looks...like a John Deere

  • @storgerson Speaking of that, Genesis just opened up here in KGRK. It's going to be weird with the competition its going to hold against CTC/TAMUCT and of course the CFIs.

  • when I saw the plane bounce around I thought that it would tip over or something but A DOOR???

  • Once, I and my instructor opened the right door deliberately during a dull and boring flight to see how the airplane would react. The airplane very slowly and smoothly banked and turned to the right as if it was meant to do so. The instructor had to push hard to keep the door open as the airstream kept it closed.

    Not a big deal really.

  • what are you doing ?

  • looks like Recklaw

  • hopeless

  • thats why you do a preflight and make sure its locked. no biggie though

  • Pull back on that Yoke man before the front wheel pops off.

  • My door popped open when I was taking off on a C152. Wasn't a big problem I just closed it on my downwind

  • @BlazingPuppies also happened to me but wasn't able to close it on the downwind cause the door was pretty stubborn. Had to do a full stop

  • They didn't even get the fly by lol

  • @katanaguy100 Not that there is anything bad about Diamonds, I got my private in an eclipse, but you can't really compare a Diamond to a Cessna, completely different aircraft.

  • Kinda makes you wonder if Cessna planned the door that way, If you forget to latch it, at least its going with the wind stream and not like other cargo doors that pop up or fly up when you forget to latch it.

  • @katanaguy100 I don't think I would openly share that information.

  • no big deal and certainly nothing threatening to the handling of the plane...nothing more than a "woopsieeeeeee".

  • @shooteraod Glad to hear someone say that. No big deal at all.

  • if i was that camera man/woman, i would seriously poop my pants if the plane was comming at me like that lol

  • Means the preflight was weak. Might have gotten some extra noise and CO in the cockpit. Things have and do fall out, but overall should not be threatening to plane, passengers or people on the ground.

  • I wanna fly on such a beautiful airfield!

  • For all you criticizing hot shot pilots out there

There are 2 kinds of pilots in this world

Those that have and those that will

  • oops... lol it happens to everyone (cessna drivers) thats why i fly piper lol.

  • ...preflight inspektion!?

  • hes a cubs fan no wonder he forgets shit like this. And its very hard to leave to baggage door open sence its kinda on the CHECKLST!!!!

  • shit

  • moral of the story? stow ur luggage in the cabin when flying a c172

  • all you turkeys gving him greif, cessna doors and latches esp on 20year old aircraft pop open all the time.. its no drama. Im so sick of wanabe armchair pilots on you tube bashing there key boards when they have no clue what they are commenting on

  • What a beautiful strip! I wish I owned that... !

  • idiot!

  • why is everyone giving him grief? they pop open all the time. sometime the latch doesn't catch and all it takes is a lil bit of wind to pull it open. it happened to me and friend one time

  • @w29bum I agree with you, but watching the video I saw him turning off the engine without the checklist and that is a sing that he to me didn´t do his walkaround checklist, I have like a year I don´t fly I Cessna 172 or 182 but I remember that checking rear baggage door is one of the first item to do after cabin pre flight checklist, some times this thing happens, because we trust in our knowladge and we feel confident because is a quite easy to fly small plane. Best regards, happy new year.

  • Not on the check list?

  • haha, not a big deal unless your shit falls out

  • i was in a piper cherokee and the actual door came open, my copilot didnt check it was latched all the way like he said he did. it was open just a crack and it was windy as hell. but we landed to close it. im sure a little door wouldnt cause any problems. it's better to forget that than forget something important. so chill people that are freaking out.

  • Leaving the baggage door open is really pretty poor no matter how easy it is to forget. No good pilot makes that mistake.

  • That's the bomb bay door!

  • its called a preflight

  • ...tard..

  • Escape hatch is the best answer on here. No big deal if it rides open.

  • Baggage doors open on 100 series Cessnas are a normal thing. They actually make a good slip/skid indicator! Helps a lot when your copilot ate a burrito for breakfast...

  • i've seen a guy takeoff with his rear door open in a bonanza. He got to rotation speed and then fiigured it out...

  • Who cares about the door, what about no aft elevator when taxiing on a soft bumpy field, almost hit the prop a couple of times.

  • @steve1428 also some nitrogen in the strut wouldnt hurt anything for grass/dirt landing/Ops. that 3-4 inches can really save your prop.

  • @steve1428 He's actually pushing the nose down - must be nice to have that kind of money - being able to risk engine and prop.

  • @steve1428 Stupidity tends to run in pairs with dumb pilots

  • @steve1428 at those speeds the elevator won't do jack shit, unless the nose strut falls off, that prop ain't hitting the ground.

  • that's not a big deal. In fact, you can leave the windows open for the entire flight if you want.

  • A lot of the older model Cessna 172s had that problem with the baggage compartment door. It was a minor design flaw (door latches either being too small or failing to latch properly even after a thorough pre-flight inspection) that's caused many an embarrassment on the runway or in the air... I've had a 1982 model 172N that had the door open as soon as I landed at Montgomery County Airpark... I was called on the radio and notified about it by a Citation pilot. :) Fun memories!!!

  • Hey- he left his speed brake deployed.

  • No biggie, maybe a better pre-flight next time though.

  • boring...

  • A couple of months ago my instructor and I were flying back from a little cross country and he looked over and said, "Your landings are really good. It's about time for me to step out and let you do this by yourself". I swear, at the very instant he finished that sentence his door popped open ( at 2500 ft. ). I said, "I'd appreciate it if you wait until we get back to the airport". Happens a lot on our Aerobat.

  • @Rikki0 Thats awesome.

  • you waste my time, stupid video LMAO

  • I liked how he just smiled and fixed it. Cool guy.

  • Engine sounds good and the field sounds busy (4 in the downwind). Where is this strip located?

For those out there who are giving this guy grief...baggage door popping open or being left open accidentally on a c172 isn't a big deal. Airstream generally holds it closed.

  • @lorinczm The strip is located in Reklaw, TX (Southeast of Dallas in the Piney woods of east Texas). There is a huge fly in every year (400 or so planes). It is also known as the East Texas or Redneck Oshkosh.

  • @storgerson, its nice to hear about Texas trying hard to copy something in Wisconsin.

  • @storgerson hmmmmm, that's in my neck of the woods. I might have to take a trip there.

  • @lorinczm isn't a big deal if there's no baggage in it...

  • @lorinczm

attention to detail insures that hatches are secured as are all items in c'lists.

    attention to detail saves lives.

you obviously are young and inexperienced.

one day you shall learn-the hard way.

  • @Travis1Bickle DId you learn the hard way or did you pay attention to every detail without missing a single one in all of your flying hours? Tell us about what the hard way was like that day ?

  • @kirbylee57 No I didn't learn the hard way. I learned from others mistakes. It's called history. It's called situational awareness. It's called attention to detail. It's called a lot of things. May I suggest a quick read of USAF Col. Boyd's O.O.D.A. Loop, from the 1950's I believe. Young man, maybe you've heard this phrase :"The devil is in the details". Maybe not. Maybe you'll learn the hard way-sounds like you're fit for a hard lesson. BTW--check six--yours stinks.
  • @lorinczm Hehe, yeah and on older model 172's the doors will open in flight.

  • didnt see a chit

  • The greatest thing is when the lady says "Bum Bum Buuuum!! Classic, and very funny. Oh and tell all the perfect pilots that have never made a mistake, that that's why the doors open to the rear. They pop open sometimes. If they have never had a door pop open in flight, (usually takeoff) then they don't have enough hours.

  • CMIIW is it said PK on 00:19?

  • no biggie, flying in an old long ranger we were taking off and the door poppd open on me and scared me but oh well.

  • HaHa yep, been there, done that. I had it pop open at cruise and had to live with the draft for a while. On every airplane there's a procedure for doors or canopies popping open in flight (usually step 1 is "continue flying airplane"). No big deal. I was waiting for some really big "ooops" like two planes landing at the same time, the radio traffic sounded like a pretty busy pattern.

  • Ya gotta love those baggage doors coming open during landing. We were landing our musketeer there on 2007 and we had ours secured during preflight but it came open on landing also. Kinda embarrasing. lol. I love Recklaw though.

  • is it the camera angle, or does that field roll down hill?

  • The field is very uneven. There is a big dip in the middle in which you cant see the other end of the runway.

  • If you ever have one of those idiot friends that's always doing stupid stuff, try this sometime. Leave a portion (the tail end) of a seat belt outside and close the door on it.

Or, toss a clipboard on the dash while climbing, then ask him to hand it to you...as you shove the nose down.

Bring toilet tissue with you. LOL

In 28 years of flying, I've had my share of friends like that, I got a million ways to prove stupid doesn't pay. hahaha

  • Or maybe it popped open after landing on rough turf?

  • Baggage door is on the checklist - complacency kills, maybe he couldn't be bothered the check fuel or oil too?

  • the door popped open on landing mr perfect.

  • That's why you lock it.

  • I don't usually lock it for a specific purpose. Its another way out in case of an emergency landing and the doors are inoperable. If its locked, you are fu*cked. This technique is commonly taught.

  • @storgerson X2

  • @storgerson tho if its the baggage door, you lock that...not the main doors

  • @storgerson Thats how I was taught.

  • Baggage door Secured, Not Locked. as the author said, the baggage door in cessnas makes for a good emergency exit. I'd rather go through the baggage door then tear myself up kicking out the plexy glass......Cessna isn't that bad about it. Pipers have a Checklist for "Door open In flight" because they have a nasty habbit of not latching tightly sometimes.

  • LOL

  • On my first solo flight, the FI had forgotten to close the door properly. First take off, I had to fight the get the door shut, it was doing bang bang bang...

  • If ya think that's adventure, wait until you open a cabin vent and the cockpit fills with bees...in flight!

  • What did you end up doing? I'm sure if you opened a window, it would suck 'em out.

  • We did...got lucky, only a few stings.

  • Yep,had that very thing happen a while back.Opened the vent and about a dozen really pissed wasps pour in the cabin!

  • LOL!! Once I saw a guy waiting for take off in front of me with the oil access panel open and the passenger seat belt hanging out the door. lol

  • that is the best landing place I have seen

  • thats what happened to my friend on a runup

  • Most likely he just forgot to close it or lock it when he left.. I've done it before...

  • landings should never be that hard hahaha however i was taxing to fast in a cessna 150 and caught a wheel shimmy and both windows and doors popped open and the tower asked me if i was ok. haha

  • The door opened whilst I was piloting a 152 it was my first flight just to get a feel for flying. and I was like can I shut it. Because As I lent over the plane slightly rolled , and it felt like the seatbelt wasn't working.

  • Typical door problem on the 172 (any model) when landing hard. The latch is to small and twists popping open.
