the bikes were a big hit in australia due to the engine size. on your learner license in australia most available bikes go on a power to weight ratio... basically they were one of the most powerful learner bikes available. to get one in the US id imagine you would have to import one, but do you need to? im not familiar with the learner scheme there.

expensive - ducati now does a restricted 696, for about 13 grand. these old bikes sell for about 6-10 grand...
