@theorc2 Music is important, but sonic deteriorated when he changed it's gameplay style. Losing the platforming elements in the quest for speed thrills were suicidal. The reason why Mario thumped the living daylights out of Sonic. Sad and tragic story. Lots of games lost their soul, Rayman and Mortal Kombat being but two.

I didn't really listen to any commercially-available music as a kid (CDs, cassettes, records.) Later on, I wondered why I didn't have any, since I love music so much. The answer is quite simple. I owned many gaming consoles with FREAKING AMAZING music! A lot of video game music, such as Sonic 1, 2 and 3 have timeless melodies.

A good song is a good song is a good song; forever. Anyone who hates on you for listening to "video game music", whatever that is supposed to mean can suck it. Peace.

@aryinc He was enigmatic and unique. They are commercially viable. Marketability is the only vital ingredient for mainstream succes. Look at every chart topper of the last 50 years. To Michael's credit, his music was well above average for mainstream music, and he actually had a personality. I can't deny him his accolades. This coming from someone who does not frequent pop or mainstream music at all.
