  • fucking omar is awesome!

  • I had this song stuck in my head the entire time we were watching the gory crash video in driver's ed. It made it even more sad.

  • Love it

  • Epic at 3:58

  • omar and cedric didn't look as happy as they are now in the mars volta

  • @barbarapoo

but the audience didnt look as happy at mars volta show as it did back then with ATDI :)

  • @barbarapoo it's a sad song, about old friends of the band dying in a car accident. It's not supposed to be happy.

  • @barbarapoo probably something to do with heroin/other drugs being abused heavily

  • @barbarapoo not to mention all they did for 5 years was tour and record albums with no break, it got the best of the relationships within the band.

  • the best band ever !!!!!!!!!!!! <3

  • RIP Maureen, you loved this shit. Jan 23rd 1979-March 31st 2004.

  • Why Cedric Bixler exist? i dont understand ... at the drive in is a fucking dream is a... a ... fantasy ..........EXTASY............some-one help meeee

  • @TheEmoLab no need to anymore! THEY'RE BACK! I CANNOT FUCKIN WAIT

  • @Ektasii YEA CAN'T WAIT, IT'S ALMOST LIKE A DREAM COME TRUE; SCRATCH THAT IT IS A DREAM COME TRUE! .... march 23rd hushed the wind, the music died / if you can't get the best of us now / it's because this is forever ....

  • My birthday is March 23rd.

  • This is FOREVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!!!

  • After thinking about it for awhile, and analyzing the consequences, I'm sure that I would give my left foot to see ATDI reunite.

  • @obeytheory LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE!!!!!!!!! Fuckin Ay.

I would give any part of my lovely body just to see ATDI reunite for 1 concert.

  • in/casino/out definitely had the most character and soul out of the 3 studio albums

  • @jojo1791 in/casino/out and vaya are my two favorites!

  • this is forever (8)

  • Wish they still played together

  • Hahah those fans don't know how to get down to some At The Drive-In. They enjoyed the show but At The Drive-In could have performed at in a ballroom and they'd still be going crazy.

  • if you cant get the best of us now, it's cause this is forever.

  • I Love this band, this is forever

  • Where you sitting down on the beaded impotence of New Orleans? Hint of suspense when the telephone rings, this is forever.

  • du caralho!

  • this song is amazing

  • i love this fucken song

  • I agree with clubzen. I mean mars volta good sparta not so as good as mars volta, at the drive in better than great.

  • I would give my left nut to hear them re-record this song with Cedric's Relationship Of Command singing voice.

  • cedric has such a powerful voice

  • @ZachArgo

I understand what you mean, but these guys, technicality wise, were on another level to Nirvana, but the rawness, the energy is there, also the skag addiction, and the paradox of it all (with their oft talked about complaints against moshing, telling people to dance instead, esp after that girl died, the famous sheep rant) Such a unique, powerful band...If you like these guys, check out a band called Drive Like Jehu, around the same time as Nirvana, way better, more like ATDI

  • @Antipopped yea man..i like nirvana but they were really over popularized..and alot of people gave them to much credit for stuff they didnt do like invent grunge..soundgarden was around since the mid 80's..but i hold nothing against them but i also respect them but the skill and creativity in at the drive-in the mars volta and even sparta is very great

  • oh, the things i would do to cedric<3

  • I could watch this over and over and over...I love this song.

  • i try to understand why everybody likes them, but its pointless, it looks to me a boring and non melodic band. I'll be never in the mood to listen anything like this. Sorry i had to tell you, boys.

  • @ramonthe3rd thankyou for sharing... you can go now

  • @ramonthe3rd someone on another ATDI video said that if you don't like this band you should listen to Mars Volta ! just try ! (I suggest Cicatriz Esp, Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt, Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus)

And you know I think it's good you only said you don't love it instead of saying that they are bad or something (wich is actually false)

  • @keitaro21 I think that you if you like Mars Volta you'll like ATDI, too. It's kind of a musical appreciation, you want more and more from Omar.

  • @brianahwanh yes for sure ! I knew Omar because I'm a fan of John Frusciante, now I listen to Mars Volta, ATDI, Defacto !

  • @ramonthe3rd just cause a guitar doesnt play a typical melodic riff doesnt mean its good..thats the hole point of music not to be as typical and genericas some other people..its art its creatitvity..this band is pretty much known kinda for having long extented melodies..as well as other things..that came from sheer creativity..they know the sounds of their instruments..thats all music is sound and noise..from primitive times to now..their wasnt such things as a scale..even tho i know so many

  • at the drive in is amazing i would love to see 'em together

but i guess that cedric doesnt want to get back with em D:

  • I like how these guys dont give a fuck about fame or money, maore bands should be like this..i include The Mars Volta...They are Making music Because They LOVE IT, they fucking worship it, unlike fucking fall out boy, or other stupid secondary emo bands who only care about fame and fucking a biillion sluts with herpes...Another amazing band is The Strokes...

  • they need to stop fuckin around and reunite

  • @clubzen LOL.never gonna happen.i wish too.but no.

  • @clubzen srry but thats not going to happen. the mars volta rocks too much and sparta sucks too much.

  • @konu123 uh, sparta fucking broke up, dumbass.

  • @funnyjuhnk4 never said they didn't... dumbass. just saying their never going to get back together because of their music styles.

  • @funnyjuhnk4 they're on a hiatus, not broken up

  • @Proramone

thats weird, does hiatus mean starting a new band called The Mars Volta and winning a grammy award?

Dude you are in a dream if you think ATDI are on hiatus?

Fuck i wish that were true!

  • @Proramone A ten year hiatus? I think your a little bit of a wishful thinker.

  • @clubzen fuck that shit man, Mars Volta is too good.

  • @clubzen cedric can't sing like that anymore... as amazing as it would be, they've moved on spiritually, and physically.

  • @clubzen: A-MEN. Can't be expressed any more detailed than that.

  • this is why i love at the drive-in/the mars volta

  • What happened on March 23rd?

  • @EpiclyAnti some friends of cedric died in a car wreck, they happen to be in a band and play music hence 'mar 23 hushed the wind the music died'..

  • these two girls who were close friends of the band died in a car crash on that day. they sang background vocals live with them at a few of their early shows in El Paso. Cedric also had a side project with them. Can't remember what the band's name was though, sorry :/

  • @KirikTarnypolski The fall on deaf ears. :)

  • no no ones has died your thinking of Jeremy ward Jim's brother

  • @jeffrox861 no. two girls died in a car crash. they were in a band with Cedric.

  • I have to say At the drive in better then the mars volta and i hope one day we can see them again

  • @jeffrox861 - havent some of the members umm... died?

  • this is forever

  • they seriously kill the mars volta..i guess its tru you can only like one or the other but not both equally...and if you do you're just scared of the truth

  • @dlm9293 I used to love mars volta, with their first 3 albums (tremulant included) but then it... it just went off into space! They are totally different bands that should in NO WAY be compared, accept that they have a few of the same members. Deloused is by far one of my favorite albums of all time, but then so is Acrobatic Tenament... so say what you will, but I feel there is just too much music out there to be comparing like that. shame :)

  • i wounder how drugged up they where? probably laid down some trac's and popped a few.

  • ATDI got commercially big enough for a japan tour?

no wonder they got tired of it... would've loved for them to stick around or at least do a reunion though, but jim ward isn't down with the idea -.-

  • @alphaguitar2 It's more than that though, they're tired of those songs and want to play new ones; there's an interview on here somewhere where Cedric talks about the band deciding that they didn't want to play fifteen year old songs.

  • @F0ndu well that doesn't really make sense cause that can easily happen with TMV too, they could've just chosen to NOT play songs that they don't want to instead of letting themselves being pressured into doing that they don't want to.

  • @alphaguitar2

Well it's a statement on here somewhere as I said; any real issue with that should be taken up for them -not like I can speak for them

  • take THAT Japan..

  • Damnit. I just cleaned my floor, and my pants. Great. Thanks a lot. You know how long it takes to get this shit out of the rug? God sometimes I wish I could get a vasectomy.

  • @supercoolninjayo If you get a vasectomy you still splooge yo

  • @XxInputxX With no balls, you still produce sperm? Maybe you are referring to orgasming. I could still orgasm, yes. However, I wouldn't produce sperm and most patients attract the "dry pistol" after surgery.

  • @supercoolninjayo Well firstly, you still produce sperm, it just cant travel through the vas deferens. However semen, which would usually mix with the sperm, still gets out. Therefore, you still splooge. Yes, even with a vasectomy, you would make a mess on your rug.

  • @XxInputxX OH you are referring to the mucus portion to it than, yes? It is the equivalent to sneezing on your rug than.

  • after the middle break omar plays the intro for eriatarka isnt he?

  • I first saw this when I was little and didn't know who At the Drive-in was, my brother was watching it. That memory came back to me when I saw this :)

  • Comment removed

  • holy shit........

  • @pearljam227 yes...this shit is indeed holy.

  • 3:30

thats real screamin. not screamo shit

  • man what a great song!! too bad most great songs come from tragedy. :'(

  • i like the fact that bands like these are RELATIVELY unnoticed. If they were mainstream, their music would defiantly sound a hell of a lot worse.

  • is this song about "The Fall on Deaf Ears"?

  • @rochoa11 yup

  • soo fuckin sick at 3:45 how cedric goes to the synth mic

  • absolutely beautiful song

get the shivers at the end when hes screaming 'THIS IS FOREVER'

  • @sinr1one

Damn right! Go watch the Paul Mcartney interview on acid. Fuck off you guys are nosey.

  • today is march 23rd

  • To all these people downing them for doing drugs.. Some people have a problem with living. Drugs take the heaviness out of living sometimes. This is who they are, this is why they sound this way...you're listening arent you?

  • who cares, its your own life and these drug comments are realy reatarded,

  • I think Omar and Cedric also had really bad Crack cocaine additions. Well anyways drugs had a positive influence in their lives and music, and it shows. Heroin, crack, acid, weed, beer, water, whatever. mind your own fucking business and listen to the music.

  • If I could make music for a living and grow an afro, I would do both of those things.

    Simultaneously.

  • heroin? where did u guys come up w/heroin?

there drug has always been acid.

they would be on acid during live shows on the early TMV years.

Omar used to do heroin as teen.

  • hmmm i wonder how jeremy ward died then. ACID KILLS PEOPLE LEL....

  • @TGlel Fucking acid didn't kill Ward, it was Heroin.

  • dude, they did acid.

    not heroin.

  • Yes they did do heroin, it was their main drug. I'm sure they did acid, but they were really into heroin.

  • @Greencheese333 Not that it really matters, but I think omar was a heroin addict, and cedric was a crack/coke addict, I could be wrong though.

  • @autorelocater it was mainly herion, even when tmv released deloused it was herion, only when wards brother died of a heroin overdose did they stop using, which most of the material on frances the mute is dedicated to him.

  • @JaredFeldman404 dude they acid afros! heroin been dancing jeans! aw man the splits...only from the cosmic undergods, no way the children are safe!

we all can drink the oil of their souls! and gasp as they run out of gassssssssssssss

  • is that a fender toronado?

  • @okamasphere ... looks more like a custom Jazzmaster

  • these guys would have made more music if they werent so busy doing heroin and shit

  • How about you stop comparing the music and start listening to it?

  • FUCK mars volta! bring back atdi

  • i think while they were in ATDI they had more time to make good music, 'cause they weren´t so busy being pretentious.

  • like it or not...

    maybe that is true

  • ATDI>Sparta>TMV

  • Cedric would hate you for saying that :(

  • More like

    TMV>ATDI>Sparta

But it doesnt matter, cause i like all three bands, cept TMV is the best... just saying :)

  • rompeme el hocico dime que me vaya ala chingada¡

  • Definitely one of the better live recordings from ATDI. They were so good live. Pure Energy on stage is what most bands lack now days. this video is land mark material

  • best band. ever.

  • me gusta mas at the drive que the mars....

  • at the drive-in > the mars volta

  • Anyone know the chords during the chorus?

  • I read somewhere that chorus chords for this is Em Bm D C

  • That's what I thought, thanks!

  • E and A and something else

  • this feels so 90's <3

  • this song is about my friends sister fucking amazing

  • thats a shame.

death seems to follow these guys.

  • HEY! fuck you man. TMV can't die.

  • dude, ya know what i just started to question? cedric does way different vocals in mars volta. was that because of the other band members wanting the more punk-rock than jazz-fusion-ish look, or was that because cedric's voice just developed differently? they were pretty young when at the drive-in was around ya know

  • thats what ive been saying too lol in mars volta he has high range that he's singing. at the drive in, it seems like hes not hitting those notes but more so trying to. what the hell happened? lol

  • well he was still maturing during at the drive-in i guess, he was 17 when it formed in 1993, so 2001 when they broke up he was like...25? ur voice can keep getting better through your thirties i'd think, and for the first couple years it was puberty haha. also i think this was the voice they kinda wanted, because its post-hardcore punk, and this is kind of a really good voice for that. i noticed that in the videos from big day out 2001 tho that he must've worn out his voice, it slowly gets worse

  • he's just worked on his vocal range it has slowly gotten more difficult from the start of atd-i to the present.

  • Wow, Cedric is actually singing more than he's jumping around. He and Omar seem surprisingly sober... maybe they couldn't get any drugs in Japan haha.

  • I'm afraid he acted so sober because of the background of this song. It's about 2 young girls who were in the first band of cedric (he drummed for the band) the 2 girls died in a car accident on march 23 in austin, texas.

    "from austin's yellow brick road"

"march 23rd hushed the wind, the music died"

"seventeen, embalmed and caskets" (they were 17 years old.

  • awesome crazy cholo loco

  • Los tatuajes de Omar se pueden apreciar

  • im still wondering how a song could be so beautiful as this is..

  • wow, it is in 6/8 i didn't even realize at first

  • man, fucking Omar was just an afro with a body back then.

  • If my hair would do that, I would be too.... Too bad it doesn't ha.

  • lol a stick figure with a fro, i could draw omar in 2 seconds

  • @AguyWITHstuff lol reply to this and get instant thumbs up, der :p

  • What body?

  • @HDXPC more like an afro with a skeleten

  • @HDXPC

Heroin does that to a guy...fucking talented tho, wish i'd seen ATDI, but Mars Volta were epic when I saw them

  • this is my favourite song, like ever. fucking awesome band

  • omar is charming!cedric is tho :D
