  • In the "how to make gears" video, you say the tilting router lift is awesome

  • This kid is a genius.

  • Hi Mathias,

Im realley impressed with your router table!!

I have a few question. First could i get the plans for this?

Maybe also the slot mortiser? (Which is also hugely impressing!!)

Second, which routers do you use?

I hope to get an answer, its always nice for one woodworker to get inspired by others.

  • More info about it at the link in the description.

  • Are you of German ancestry?

  • @RainbowConure here we go :D

  • @RainbowConure

I've been thinking the same. His name is definitely german anyways.

  • your are the Edison of wood (but without been mean haha) you should make all those tools in metal and patent them :)

  • You could also used some poly glue underneath the t-nut to help hold it

  • This is unbelievable!

  • GOOD JOB on the video & editing. It moves quickly, with just enuf explanation and demonstration. Excellent.

  • I dont work with wood but i find these videos to be very interesting

  • Great job!

  • you sir are a genius in hardware! do you work with a hardware company

  • I already purchased a aluminum router plate. and still getting ideas for my next router table and i was thinking about putting just a vertical lift instead of the tilting (which i wont use very much, but still a great idea). i was wondering if i can still use my router plate and use the lift?

  • It would be much easier without the router plate.

  • @Matthiaswandel Ok thanks. i was just wondering if there was a way. And keep up with the great videos and ideas.

  • Where can i buy a router like that?

  • Home Depot, Rona, Home Hardware, Canadian Tire, Busy bee tools

  • 10,000 Views W0W

  • nice work!!!

  • So many great ideas in this video. Nice work

  • I watched the whole thing without knowing what it was for. The end product is amazing.

  • I was with you until you said "I set the table saw very accurately..."

  • I think ...well he must be out of great ideas....NOPE... Here come another. You are a great inspiration!

  • As always, an excellent video, simple, straightforward. So many people will pay the $400+ costs for *just* a router LIFT. You've taken the whole idea to a new level all for the cost of some T-nuts, screws and bolts and other associated hardware + the wood (minor expense) and the labor of putting it all together. AND - the biggest benefit of all? BRAGGING RIGHTS! Yep, anyone who builds these things can certainly brag that they built it and saved HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS.

  • If only my high school shop teacher could've lived to see this. He'd probably move to Canada just be near you.

  • Greetings from Brazil. You really make all that easy to understand. On the due time I´ll build lots of your projects.

  • Would you consider yourself good at woodwork? :P

  • What wood are you using?

  • Super cool!

  • Superb. So many clever ideas in just this one video. Thank you!

  • Ahh! Monday morning and another great article and video to view from Woodgears. Something to look forward to each week. Thanks!

  • Simply stunning - as usual! Great job.

  • Ingenious man Really super work. I only need accurate table saw fence and top quality birch plywood like Appleply.

  • That is cool now I need to build one thanks!

  • so with the use of this tilting idea you could produce a raised panel with a straightforward straight fluted cutter that is a big money saving on a standard raised panel cutter....and probably safer....well done!

  • Another great job. Thank You

  • Nicely done.

  • Bravissimo!! Sono sempre incantato dai tuoi progetti, creativi geniali e fattibili con poche risorse...

veramente complimenti per quello che fai e che metti in rete per tutti.

    Ciao da Massimiliano Italia.

  • Matthias, do you think i could adapt this to mount on a standard 12x9 inch router plate so i could mount it in my factory made router lift?

  • I suppose you could, but it would be less work to just replace the table top.

  • Very very impressive work :)

  • unbelieveable )))

  • I never worked with wood in past and won't in close future for sure but I enjoy to watch you videos. Keep it up!

  • Magnets in the knobs, Brilliant! Its the little touches that make life so much easier.

The magnet for the insert came from a hard drive, didn't it?

  • Wow, your videos are always great to watch.

  • So relaxing watching your videos mate :) So glad i found this channel!

    ALL IS IN ORDER!

  • Absolute Genius!!!!

  • Very creative, i don't think anyone came up with a tilting router lift before. I'm curious to see different router bits cutting while in the tilted position. Nice work !

  • wow that joint at the end was amazing once again you have impressed us all thanks

  • Personally I like this format of video much better, where you compress all the building steps into a single video rather than 4 or 5. Gives my brain less time to forget what happened in the previous video :3

  • All I can say is "Amazing" you really have poven that wood can do so much more than what meets the eye. Well done.

  • You, Sir, are a genius! I love Your videos!

  • Make an awesome Rube Goldberg machine. C:

  • Genius

  • 2:15 was genius. Mind truly blown - how'd you even come up with that!

  • bravo! impeccabile come sempre!!!

  • Matthias, I am saving money to get a drill press. Should I get a table top press or a free standing one? Is one better than the other?

  • @Magicalapple97 I'm not Matthias, but I'd recommend a standing one. Unless you know you're never going to make something bigger than a jewelry box. Once you get a large drill and a large work piece, you'll quickly run out of room with the benchtop machine.

  • Matthias, when I saw the part where you were using the drill to advance and retract the slide, I thought to myself... Hmmmm... a remote, motorized router lift on a simple, two-action toggle switch... "positive" voltage, "negative" voltage, forward and reverse, up/down... and you can mount the switch easily on the front edge of your table... that, with a simple bit height plate... instantaneous and effortless lifting... maybe throw on a dip switch on a cheap board to monitor rate of change/lift

  • And in the mean time, we love it when gadgets have things that we can manually activate, like ipod wheels and scrolling on an ipad. Much easier to control than buttons.

  • @Matthiaswandel Of course, my friend, it wouldn't be anywhere near as fun as tactile manipulation, a virtual melding of man and machine, hahahah! besides, its more fun to do the math to pair up different gear ratios and then see that come to fruition in the lift. I like to make things more complicated than they need to be, just because... a woodworking Rube Goldberg... hahaha...

  • I am super impressed, you are a source of inspiration. This is when a mathematical brain goes hands on instead of lecturing math! Am I right ? Are u a math wiz?

  • This man is a freakin' genius. I know that I and others have said it before, but I felt it needed to be said again.

  • Another nice piece of kit! Nice work...

  • A lot of the work in these videos flies over my head, but there's always genius little tips I can learn from, like the clever use of magnets in this video.

  • Awesome idea, man! You are a genius. lol ... Butt Joint. Always made me laugh in shop class. XD

  • damn, i just finished making your first router lift!

  • How on Earth do you find the TIME to work on these gadgets? I mean it's awesome, but don't you work?

  • This is my work.

  • @Matthiaswandel To design wooden tools/jigs, or just carpentry in general?

  • @Matthiaswandel Love what you do, and you'll never work a day in your life!

  • @Matthiaswandel Why dont you invent something useful for once ya wanka?

  • Pretty dang awesome.

  • kinda hypnotizes me...

  • Really? How do I do that?

Hmm... Could maybe sell a lot of plans that way :)

  • @Matthiaswandel That would be using your super power for evil! Eheheheheh

I don't know the reasons by the way, maybe it is your peaceful Canadian accent plus the idea of relaxing woodworking in your workshop in a cold day.

Seriously i don't know, but if i have to guess it's because i'm Italian, and we have a big lot of chaos down here, basically the opposite of your videos which look and sound tremendously peaceful and focusing instead. So here you have hypnosis xD

  • @deadlycheezcake

Wow, you think you're so important that it's worth answering you questions? Answering someone who's too lazy to read? If you don't want to read, pay someone to do it for you. But expecting someone to do it for you for free?

I hope you aren't that much of a prick in real life.

  • Any reason you changed the 'rail' design from the previous lift?

  • I figured this would be easier to build. Doesn't have to be quite as precise.

  • Your inventions never cease to amaze me, keep up the inspiring work! :)

P.S. Do you sell plans for this? If not are you going to in the future?

  • Yes do have plans. Part of my website update for Monday.

  • @deadlycheezcake he explains that in his description. OR it was it on the site, not sure, you should just read them both and you'll know why.

  • I was wondering what the applications of this could be, and then you answered that in the last 30 seconds. Impressive work as always!

  • Another video on using coming tomorrow.

  • @Matthiaswandel Excellent. Not to kiss up, but all these videos really inspire me in my own shop and work and I cannot thank you enough for that.

  • Wish I was as talented as you are with wood, it would come in handy with all the woodwork I am doing on my fiat that I am restoring! check out my channel!!

  • Your attention to detail is absolutely amazing. Thank you so much!

  • Epic win. Again huge thanks for sharing!

  • how do you make your gears in skecth up

  • I totally enjoyed watching it.. Thanks for sharing! :D

  • Magnets in the knobs, genius!

  • but will it blend!

  • 0.0 how...

  • Good Job! I enjoyed watching!

  • you have got to be kidding me. That is so tight!

  • you are my wood guru!

  • Should I expect to see beveled gears in your next version of your software?

  • Great machine, Im looking forward to seeing it in more videos :)

  • hahah szaleństwo .

  • wow your mind is brilliant! i greatly enjoy watching your videos keep them coming!

  • Just love how your mind works man, well done on yet another great project.

  • This system works in an X axis of a CNC machine?

  • gotta love fender washers

  • I hope you realize that many of your designs can easily be adapted to make metal castings. Amazing!

  • Great, great, great, Works, you are the Chuck Norris of wood !!!

  • Great work, once again!

  • nice.. :)

  • I'm no woodworker, but I love watching your videos!

  • @RobertGraaf +1

  • @RobertGraaf +2

  • @RobertGraaf same here, I love to watch this guy, even if I find him somehow strange from time to time... Not in a bad way!! He's just a genius with true passion and devotion in what he does.
