always nice to see Franz Ferdinand attempting to take the moral high ground concerning bands which attempt to immitate other bands....NOW...whats that thing they write on the internet?...oh yes..ROFLMAO
You know I hate to say this, because I really like The Fall and I'm quite anxious to learn more about Smith, but I am having a fuck of a time trying to understand what he says.
Read the sleeve notes seivad9 - 'Romping travesty' - Genius steals. Saw the Stooges at Benicassim, take or leave 'em. Saw the Fall in Manchester 2 (two) months ago. Mighty.
Its not a rip off, is more like an obvious homage/borrowing. The Fall has always paid homage to their past influences in a bunch of covers or like in Elves, taking a legendary riff and take it to the Fall language. Other examples are I Am Damo Suzuki (they do Can) and Touch Sensitive (they do Velvet's Waiting for the man) and The War Against Intelligence (Son Of A Preacher Man).
Oh, well in that case I totally understand his slurred speech!
Give me a break. This guy is a musical and lyrical hero of mine and has been forever, and I can't even point out that you can barely understand him without some gits coming on to criticize ME for saying anything.
I'll try to make better comments in the future! May I ask everyone's forgiveness?
Its a live intro from a 1979 gig, I have it on a CD called 'Totale's Turns'. That said it could be on any number of releases this is The Fall after all.
I totally concur! I thought their last album was damn good and bordering on beefheart genius, but the critics didnt acclaim it or whatever, he's got a new line up and I bought the new album yesterday and I love the track taurig. One of their best albums. the cover art reminds me of a beefheart or can album.
Yeah Imperial Wax Solvent was fucking good. Really critics didn't like it? the reviews I've read gave it 4 out of 5 stars. (Stewart Lee even called it a career high for them)
And I agree over that "Taurig" is a fucking mint track, my fave though is stuck between "Strangetown", "Is This New", or "Senior Twilight Stock Replacer".
no critics didnt like reformation post tlc and they're calling imperial wax solvent a 'return to form' I think smith's always on form really, its like peel said once - it's like the fall may produce something thats not what you expected or what you neccessarily like or up to their usual standard - but it's the fall = it's what you need.
One of, if not THE best lyricist Britain has ever given the world...vastly under-rated, especially in North America. A veritable Van Vliet scholar(nudge, nudge, wink, wink..)
At 5:45, that's Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band (Hair Pie?), not The Fall. I hate to say it on this forum, but Captain Beefheart is better than The Fall. I love the Fall, but Captain is the Emperor of Ice Cream as far as I'm concerned.
Lessee... about 95% of music out there is bollocks so that makes another 95% of poor wankers. Ever wonder who is the doctor's doctor? or the coppers' copper?
The Fall are easily the rocker's rockers. No one else comes anywhere near close.
mjd88, before you totally make your mind up please check out the tracks : No Bulbs, Powder Keg, Cruiser's Creek, Feeling Numb, Edinburgh Man, How I wrote Elastic Man. This is just for starters and take it from me that these are SERIOUSLY good. Or maybe I'm wasting my time trying to explain class and talent to some arse-wipe from Wankville who fantasises about playing bongoes in Huey Lewis and the News.
I've never heard such total crap in my life. Lets see, I'm Mark Smith, I'll find some kids who can barely remember three chords and I'll walk in circles and start mumbling at the floor-ALL NIGHT LONG. And then all the stupid-ass British people will think I'm a genius and buy me tons of drinks!! Sounds like a plan!
does anybody know if the first track on this video is a version of like to blow? if so what version when where, where can i find it? and if not what track ios it? cheers
Thanks for uploading this. Although I could barely understand what Mark is saying, it's good to finally see an in-depth show on the man and his group. It's about time.
