I'm 25 and hated the prequel star wars, but the story line of the original star wars made me care about the characters and made me want to watch multiple times. This one might have been my favorite because of how everything led up to this point, and when I found out Vader was his father I almost lost it. Made sense though, Vader could have killed him easily in this fight, but instead just cut off his hand. The final duel in Return of the Jedi too was the climax that a story like this needed.

the original trilogy duels were so much better than the sterile choreographed prequels. these actually have some amount of reason for being in the film. what purpose did Darth Maul serve to the "plot" (i use that loosely) of phantom menace. What about Count Dooku? when nobody cares about why theyre fighting, its way more boring than this emotional fighting

@mrlowhe well i do prefer the originals i actually dont mind the prequels. i saw them first when i was a kid. the reasoning behind darth maul was that the emperor needed to rally his sith legions that had been all but destroyed, maul was one of his strongest of his followers which is why he was used like he was a body guard and the only one who could stand a chance against anikens guards the jedi.

The lightsaber battles in the origininals were... slow.. but are they supposed to be fast? It seems like in the originals they are treated more like actual swords than just weightless blades of light, which is a good thing. I do like the action in the prequels more because it's just fun to look at, but this is much more suspenseful. The lightsabers actually connect for longer than a forth of a second, in the prequels they just bounce off of eachother.

I know it may seem shallow, but i've never seen anything quite like it in any other movie. The struggle between good and evil on the otherhand is apparent in about 75% of fantastical movies. And lets be realistic here, Star Wars doesn't have much depth when it comes to that aspect either.

Bob Anderson,the Olympic swordmaster who acted Darth Vader in the battlescenes died recently. If you look closer, you see Darth used his sword far more efficient than the other actors in the Star Wars movies. No "windmills" but good offensive and defensive strikes.

What makes this fight so good is the lack of music. It feels so immersive and eerie, the tension is crazy. Your on the edge of your seat because you know Luke isn't ready to take him on and could get hit at any moment. Regardless of how well you know the fight everytime you watch it it's like seeing it for the first time.
