It doesn't compare to the older stuff, mainly due to the weaker lyricism. But FF always produces good music. Hopefully their next effort will return to that more subtle style.
Montezuma was the 9th ruler of Tenochitlan, reigning from 1502 to 1520. He was killed during the initial stages of the Spanish conquest of Mexico, when Cortez fought to escape the Aztect capital.
@dynomike1964 great comment. Global desperation makes even the multi-million dollar artists fret and freak out about their investments and portfolios. But in the greater scheme of things IMHO Fleet Foxes are genuine Troubadours who would gladly prefer to write a good song than invest in gold.
@thepumpdontwork Also shitty economy producing some fucking dicks. He added one "e", which is more than likely a typo. Just shush and go to peace with this song playing.
I do love this song, its also definitely the best on the album by far. The album's pleasant but I just wish there was some more guitar in there. Im a Neil Young fan, but a lot of the album is too much like Crosby, Stills and Nash... without Young, for me! Still better than most things out there though!
I think a great peice of music will often sound a tiny bit strange upon the first few hearings. Your ear has to have a little time to adjust to the new colors and cadences. Each new Cat Stevens record was like that for me (waaay back when) and everything I've come to love since then first challenged my ear befor slowly ravishing it!
@TheTinderBox0812 they also released a self titled EP in 2006 (back when they had "the" at the beginning of their name) but it was released on really around the Seattle area. Icicle Tusk is the best song from that album in my opinion and you should check it out. it's quite amazing.
unlike fleet foxes older stuff, I didn't like this album when I first listened to it. But after listening to it a few times I absolutely loved it. I don't think it beats their older stuff, blue ridge mountains still remains my fav song of theirs, but songs like sim sala bim and the plains/bitter dancer proved that fleet foxes are more than just a one-awesome-album band.
@ChadOnTheNet Definitely blue ridge mountains is a song I'm never tired to listen to, I think my fav from them as well, and about their new album the more I listen to it the more I'm falling in love with it (jeje)

so far this year ive been disappointed with all of my favourite north american bands. the Decemberists new album, only okay. The new Band of Horses album fuckin rubbish with its awful lyrics, and Fleet Foxes new one not near as good as the first two. Lets hope The Shins and Modest Mouse don;t let us down this year
@Joeysmith2 technically yes, but they released an EP in June of 2008 entitled Sun Giant. As far as I'm concerned it's an album, despite it only having 5 tracks. Mykonos is on there, after all.
@Zeplovr333 I heard ONE song from this album and knew this. They're others are by far works of incredible art but THIS here is something that words can not begin to describe.
@trevorgarford I hope you give this album another chance. Just musically they have grown fantastically and sound so much more proficient. Their style's changed, but I think that's a minute issue if one at all. Their lyrics are still meaningful if not more. They seem more honest, not that they weren't before, but I guess straightforward is the word I'm looking for. Overall, I think this is one of the most inspirational albums I have ever heard. Grown Ocean has to be one of my favorite songs now.

This album definitely puts a strong emphasis on growing older. Very very cool that somebody's thought about this ordeal as life is so short.
