You will find me, if you want me, in the garden. Unless I'm too busy listening Einsturzende Neubauten, slowly wanking myself to sleep over the sound of his deliciously eery vocals.
I got recommened Einsturzende Neubauten by someone else who thought I might like this and their music. I've only heard a few songs including this and I like what I hear so far. This song especially to me seems packed full of feeling and emotion. Even though it's cryptic as to what it means I love it. Especially when the strings come in at 2:27. Absolutely beautiful. Could anyone recommend me an album to start on of theirs?
well the bottom line about this video and song is that within it's casual simplicity it emanates the besmirched chaos of liberated oppression and I FREAKIN LOVE this band
This is a ww2 nazi song. The banks of all four rivers where you will find him is the swastika, the garden is germany before the allies rained down bombs on it, which is why you wont find him there. Their name is an allusion to the destruction of all arcitechture in germany during ww2.
Well "Neubauten" were buildings established after WW2, so destroying them during the second world war would have been difficult to say the least... now fuck off.
it's not a reference to the nazis, though it is a reference to the swastika as used by the Tibetans. The four arms stand for the four rivers that flow from Lake Mansarovar, the holy lake at the base of Kailash: the Indus, the Sutlej, the Brahmaputra and the Karnali. Their waters fertilize the land in several countries of the region. Hence the swastika is a life-giving mark, i.e. "the spring of consciousness" that is mentioned after the banks of all 4 rivers.
That's the kind of thing that makes me embarrassed to be American. There's people here that still assume Germans are like that, even after Obama's speech in Berlin was in endless political ads. Societies can change, and both Germans and Americans have proven that.
'the garden' is one of my all-time favourite neubauten songs... well, that video is rather weird, but come on, the 'guy standing in front of white background doing stuff' not that unusual, actually. for instance, i am always reminded of this video when watching 'drop it like it's hot' by snoop dogg.
For 15 years EN have been my favorite, but even I have to admit that I don't like this video. That's not to say it's without its own peculiar artistic merit, of course. But I also think it's important to think critically and not blindly accept everything an artist produces just because of their reputation. Even the Beatles let Ringo sing from time to time.
Neubaten has always had a odd style (to say the least) this is just another aspect of experimentation in their music.
It is a bit repetitive when heard alone, but when listening to the whole album I liked it. It such a simple message or even abeacon of sorts in a otherwise overwhelming wall of sound.
Great tune, almost perfect video, and of course a alltime great band.
Ugh, I hope that makes sense, I was trying to say: this song like a tranquil little segment in a otherwise utterly chaotic harsh sound they have, it is a bit odd for them, but they sometimes do make songs like this. Blixa never fails to be fascinatingly eccentric.
i really like this

What is it with people and insulting videos.
and why must people instantly assume "Nazi" when a german is involved.
Alright, so this video will only appeal to a select ammount of people, most being Einsturzende Neubauten fans.
But there is absolutley no reason to say it's annoying, its shit, its a waste of time. Because it's not really.
You came here
You watched it
The only person you can blame is yourself
I love Blixa Bargeld :)

Einsturzende is an elitist group and should remain like that
Blixa is a german romantic...
and maybe people like to associate him with the nazi because Hitler was also a romantic.
When he conquered Paris Hitler went at first to the Opera for a private visit.
Did George W. Bush go to to the Museums of Bagdad when he conquered Irak?
This is what makes the difference between a Butcher and a poet....whatever number of people they have killed!

A lot of art uses them to great effect though. First example that springs to mind is Nick Cave who Blixa has worked closely with.
