  • Freak, first gig of Mark in Czech Republic and I left for the whole summer :(

  • Mark, Please Please make more of these. These are extremely informative about you as a person as well as about your insider information about your playing.

  • I sit on my arse dreaming about what my home studio might look like. Your vid just made me want to get off that arse and actually do it. You're in inspiration!

  • I love how he's still so down to earth and funny. Haven't heard that story about how he started playing a short-scale Gibson. That would explain a few things...

  • What's fantastic video! I've searched YouTube for info on Mark's string gauge and especially the story about the tape on his thumb and was stoked to find a vid of him going through it all himself! It was like hanging out with the man himself for 15 mins :D

Mark, if you're reading this - you're inspiring, man! Even after 30 years! Also a genuine, nice guy. Salutations from Western Australia!

  • 2 People has got no sense of humor what so ever !

this vid does help to show the remarkable talent that God gave you.

  • alo aaron.

  • How the heck has Mark still got his hair? I would have thought he'd be bald by now.

  • @sirtinycreep Sorry that you are going BALD mate!

  • @widepass I'm not actually. But I know guys who had more hair than Mark did 30 years ago, and they went bald years ago. How does Mark do it???

  • How the heck has Mark still got his hair? I would have thought he'd be bald by now.

  • I HATE headless basses and guitars!

  • I am so glad I found this video.

  • One of my favorite bass players.

  • I always wanted to play the bass. Unfortunately my talents left me with being a keyboard player. I was always envious of the bass player in the bands I was in because of the power they had. The bands I were in always wanted to be The Police, or Level 42, and we failed miserably at both. Mainly because we'd stop rehearsing too early, drive to the pub with Level 42 playing, and get pissed up and realise we didnt have a hope in hell.

  • @oxygene65 hahaha you speak out of my heart man, i know it so well how you feel brother :)

  • He needs to practice more if he wants to be as good as the bloke in Level 42.

  • Hes still funny as2,not like 2days bassist.

  • You know I was feeling a bit down until I watched this. I'm a bass player and was totally inspired by Mark. My style mimicks his but not nearly as good. I'd love to borrow his bass and his talent for a night. Thanks for posting!!! Actually this track sounds like it has legs. Wonder if it is in the NEW ALBUM LINEUP!!????

    かっこ良すぎるぜ、MARKさま。

  • and i always thought two balls were better then one, in many things in life.....classic

  • Mark you are the man! Digging the new Bass too! I've been interested in getting one with the Jazz PU's to see what the difference is in tone as opposed to the humbuckers.

    Peace and good grooves!

  • @adzshan

He means, just standing in the back, plucking 2 notes at a time. In other words, why let all the guitarists have all the fun?!

  • deu um rabisco e gravou "

  • Aye, two are indeed better than one, aye.

  • Balls. Aye.

  • My ALL TIME favorite band. From Dunstable leisure center in the 70's to the Albert Hall and beyond ...............just superb.

  • Amazing. Gotta love those bends on 30-50-70-90 strings. Hail to the KING baby!

  • Fabulous!!! thank you for bringing me into your temple, Mark! You are indeed the slap bass Master :-D

  • I really like the Bass Mark is playing!! But, I would like some Heavier strings! The tape is a great idea! I'll have to give that a try!!!

  • This is such a great piece.....totally brings back the "old days" of Level 42 !!!! It also reminds me a bit of your Influences album...

Jamming- freaking FUNKY HOT STUFF !!!

GO MARK !! (Please do this live on the next tour in Holland...we hardcore fans long for something NEW :P

  • Wow, that's...uh, crazy good!

(BTW, who is the moron who gave this a thumbs down)

  • Mark... this is unbelievably fantastic! Reminds me of the "Influences" album somehow... love the Davros reference!!!

  • The mother of all look-at-me-playing-slap-bass YouTube videos.

  • Going strong...

  • géantissime

  • You're the best forever and ever!

  • f***ing brilliant! What a phenomenal bass player. Why he isn't namechecked as being one of the best in the world is beyond me, not only that but to sing and play like he does is nothing sort of remarkable.

As a matter of interest did you know that Mark is naturally left handed but because the guitar shop he worked in only had right hand basses -- he learned to play right handed - astonishing dexterity.

All this and Davros and Daleks too. What more could you ask for?

  • marvellous as ever ! hey mark check out gary denyer.. hes ur apprentice from what i can see !! check it out hes on here too !!

  • Oe Oe :)

I am working on that too hehe :p

  • I never got that memo.. "Stand at the back and dribble"

  • @adzshan How the heck has Mark still got his hair? I would have thought he'd be bald by now.

  • Reason #473 on the list of 'Why I Quit Playing Bass to Become A Full Time FOH Engineer'. - ROFL As always, love Mark's playing and creativity. A true ''Master of The Art'.

  • wow - thanks for uploading. I'm just a sloppy guitar player myself, but Mark King was and still is a real hero for me on the bass.

  • How to re-string, tune spot on, and play the bass in 2 mins! Mark showing us all how it's done with no effort at all - lol. Many thanks to Mark for taking the time to make the video and give people the little insight. What a guy!
