Well....when i first heard dave's post transylvania solo I wasn't a guitarist yet and I wasn't able to understand how frreaking good that is!!! it's something that goes technichally beyond EVERY guitarist back then!!! there wasn't anything as hard, technichal and fast as this 'till malmsteen!!

And it's a shame that Dave doesn't alternate pick like that anymore I like this crazy picking/legato style way more than his "nearly 100%legato style"

I believe this was part of a mini italian tour in 1981, and in this mini tour is where Paul left and Bruce got in. I have the previos night on video and Paul was in it, Bruce didnt got in until October 26, I doenst make sence, did they spent all those months in 1981 without a singer? I dont think so.

I think dave and adrian are as good as each other altho they are very different. dave is fast and fluid, but adrian has so much more melody and feeling in his playing, and a huge vibrato which influenced more famous guitarists than i could list.

Atleast on last Maiden gig Gers and Murray played allmost all the solos while Smith was playing the background. Thats really a shame, like others i rank Murray/Smith the same and then Gers..

Well TBH i always thougt Smith was better than Dave, certainly not in the early days, but as teh years passed, Smith evolved while Dave stagnated. Nowadays you can notice that Daves solos are all pretty much the same, while Adrian always comes up with new techniques and phrases. But anyway, they both rule :)

For me, Dave and Adrian are one of the best guitar duo's of all time...The thing they all have in common is, that they have their own sound. That, for me, is Maidens trademark, 3 different guitar players with a unique sound.

Look the thing about maiden is that Adrian, Janick and Dave are totally different guitar players. Dave's hammer ons are fast and accurate, Adrian is fast, smooth and uses more blues scales while Janick Gers is more experimental with his solos the way he plays, is sometimes pretty weird.
