  • Hauntingly beautiful music, shame about the movie. If you've never seen the deer hunter before I'd recommend skipping to the half way point where it gets interesting. Its a long pretentious movie and I'm not going to gush all over it like I'[m supposed to. Its a poorly written drawn out affair I didn't care for any of the characters I just wish more had died in that fun russian roulette scene.

  • @itadaku23 Pretty tough opinion, but I agree with you. The movie is a legend now and it's amazing how corny, badly paced, and by turns ridiculous the whole thing is. I'm thinking primarily of all the hauling and tugging of the plot to get DeNiro into a position where he absolutely has to put the gun to his temple just to talk to Walken and try to get him home.

  • Because it's not an action film - you don't just go cut cut cut - it's about building atmosphere - the wedding scene is absolutely perfectly timed because it builds tension in the emotions of the friends.

  • Stunning film - miles better than Apocalypse Now - people who claim the first third is boring obviously have been fed on too much hollywood adrenalin pumping junk because it's such a wonderful exploration of a little community of friends.

  • Movies ARE boring when you have a director who lasts to long on a scene, that's already made it's point. What would we miss if the wedding scene was 5 minutes, instead of over 20?Show the vows,Streep and deniro exchanging glances, then right to the green beret scene..then cut.We know this is close community..why keep hammering the point home? It's like the opening to heavens gate, hurt's speech is pointless and meaningless...and does nothing but dull the senses.

  • @TheGatorfan93

That nicky proposes to streep is also very important in this scene, otherwise nicky wouldn't have a reason to kill himself at the end of the movie because he knows deniro was with her when he got back.

    Retard.

  • One shot !

  • The beginning of the film Raging Bull.

  • Jealous much?

  • great film..I like it..I hope my Future wife.girlfriend.ladyfriend name is Linda and looks like Young meryl streep

  • and you are a fucking bastard

  • Can somebody tell me what does EMI stand for in the beginning?

  • Electrical and Music Industries (Ltd). A British music & film company. They produced this film and also Monty Python and the Holy Grail among others. Also EMI is responsible for opening Abbey Road Studios in London.

  • I love this song. this is one of my favorite classic songs

  • I love the tone of the version of the movie ;)

  • this is the most beautiful classic song i ever heard

  • I agree with you about this version of Cavatina. For me it's by far the best. Would you ever consider posting the end credits sequence? The reason is because it features the entire musical sequence of this great piece of music.

  • The deer hunter is one of the best movies ever made and the soundtrack is so beautiful :)

  • That's in your opinion. I'm neutral on the whole thing. I commented on what I didn't understand, and then you shed light on it for me, and then I understood your joke. The whole reason I didn't understand is because I don't remember that scene as funny. It started out that way, but then when it's revealed that it was his wife, it became gut-wrenching, and that's the way the director Sam Mendes intended it. You and I can just agree to disagree; I have no animosity towards you at all.

  • No, first because it was not me who did it in the first place, and 2nd because even if I did give a thumbs down, which I didn't, I couldn't remove it. The natural question to ask is: why does it matter to you?

  • Oh, so you were jokin'...you're talking about the wife who intentionally recorded her screwing that guy so that he'd see it. I understand now; I thought that scene was totally heartbreaking, but that's just my opinion.

  • I've seen it, and they are watching THIS FILM when they hear it, so I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.

  • Quite simply wonderful...for me this is the greatest anti-war film ever created.

  • I don't regard it as an anti-war film but as a film about friendship and relationships that get tested by extraordinary crisis.

Most of the film doesn't even center on war, but on the working-class ethnic mill town where all the characters come from. In my opinion it is completely the depiction of this town and its people that is the center of the film's beauty and its poignancy.

It is in that sense that I believe The Deer Hunter is a great film, one of the all-time greatest IMO.

  • @englishclassteacher

People who call it a war film are ignorant, it is indeed about friendship and survival. Beatuful piece of film history.

  • @englishclassteacher

    Agree with you.

  • Superlative soundtrack... the absolute best.

  • What does it sound like, then?

If, in any way, it's a more modern version then I'll have to disagree again.

  • For me this will always be the superior version; i cant forget a recent tv trailer for this film with this music and how beautifully it fitted. I also loved the play between DeNiro and Streep

  • I've never seen that, but it'd be a bit hard to actually beat the classic version. So, personally, I'm going to have to disagree.

To each his/her own though, as they say.

  • I agree with you wholeheartedly; besides, the version in Jarhead he speaks of is when they all gather around and actually watch THIS MOVIE, so....

  • This is exactly how Cavatina should be played always!

  • I must to get that movie on DVD. WHAT A CLASSIC! Great job for the filmmaker; Michael Cimino. He won for Best Director in the Oscars in 1979. Congrads for winning that for the movie of yours. THE DEER HUNTER is becoming; "a heartfelt, devasatating and compassonatively war drama to understand about human life." That's my review of the movie. GREAT UPLOAD!

  • to me it is a friendship drama, and complicated relationship between de niro and meryl

  • beautiful

  • four stars for posting -- happy to find this --

in spite of its flaws, this movie was a triumph

    of individual talents combined

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!!!

  • No problem at all. I'm pretty surprised this has never been posted before. It took some time to get right (kept cutting off at 1:25), but I got there in the end.
