The only reason theese were/are popular is because its easy to make it sound ok quickly but you could have one for years and hardly progress they are very hard to do complex patterns/programes.Lets get rid of them now into the museums for the 303 and their clones and start making NEW original music instead of hanging on to something that was never that great to begin with! Anybody who used thees in the 80s+90s are glad to see the back of them,its only donuts who think they are cool!!!
@ systemlfo.... it sounds brighter because of the higher resonance (mod) to my ears. I mean to make something sound muffled doesn't take much skill.... Try some EQ! You will find people Eqing there 303s to make them brighter also. Id say the XOX would cut through a track better than a 303.
now there is a new firmware for the x0x being developed, it gives you the old 303 pattern sequencing interface and functionality (like sepparate pitch and time mode) tripplet patterns, and uhm lots of new stuff on top of that (which already makes it a bit better than the original sequencer..)
even more useful features (beyond what a 303 guy would have dreamed about) will be added once there is a new CPU for the x0x (bigger one)

Switch it from a 2SC536F to a 2SC945P. The latter is the other transistor type that turns up in the 303s. The warmer sound you talk about comes form the units that has those in it. There's a huge thread about it on the x0x forums at ladyada. You don't need to switc hall your 536s. Just Q11.
You got it. The two SK30As are also key. The main thing is to match up all those correct the ICs in the analog signal chain. The digital section: sequencer, OS, etc., are completely separate and don't impact the root sound characteristics of the analog section.

Pretty much every angle is covered there and the knowledge base there far outweighs what I could explain here. I learned it all from there anyway. I should probably do an A/B video too just ot be an additional supprt to BIMOX's vid here :)

Yes they have. Just search for BA662 on youtube.
They definitely sound better than the BA6110 which too my ears has a much for of a swishy white-noise-esque sound at high resonance.

Yeah the xox sounds brighter. Ive got a BA662 & ready to start building soon. Hoping that the 662 will give it that 303 squashed/muffled sound..

that squashed sound you're referring to can actually be achieved by switching the transistor in Q11. You'll know what I mean when you get to that.

Nice comparison, but one of 303's greatest attributes is its sequencer, which is not really similar on the x0x.

i think the x0x sequenzer is much better to programm but u still get the same sounds coz it has everything u need... like slide, accent....
