How cute! She looks so tiny on that horse :') I always wanted to ride the big horses when I was little, and now I wish I was short enough to ride tiny ponys again xD
Surely can ;) Vegemite is like Promite but more of a bitter taste, it is black spread and goes well on bread with butter (tastes good on a sandwich with cheese, onion and soy sauce lol)
That's correct - this is filmed at the Burpengary Xcountry course (though it's changed a bit now with a number of new replacement jumps). We were at the Waterford HT, Allira rode in the 15yr & under Improvers group.
yeah cool, my friend went to the burpengary ODE and said the new jumps were good!.. oh cool i did the 16 & over 50cm haha, it was my horses first ever XC and we went clear so was very happy lol
hey allira its bek and gilly omfg thats so cool what you've done wif Veg. Can you help me to teach gilly how to jump. I would do it my self but he scares me when he jumps.Love bek
It's not fair. Your daughter is an amazing rider! She is 12, an excellent rider, owns a horse, and is better then me!! lol Her horse is a bit 2 big, but it doesnt effect her riding one bit! Plus, at 12, she has a lot of growing to do!
Thanks grace - Allira's now 13 and most of this footage was taken around Jan 2006 - so she's grown a few inches since then. Also her & Vegemite now have had near on a full year of lessons/training behind them and her riding & Vege's training have both come along dramatically (where most of the jumping in the video was over beginners level, they're now going over the Open jumps, which are around 1* level).
shes not to small for horses i used to ride before i got my loan a 17.2hh horse and i never fell off him then i rode a 13.2hh pony and fell off only on flat and ponies are more cheeky than horses so it dont matter as long as shes safe and learning
she's catching him in the mouth because she's clearly over horsed, she's far too small a rider and too young for that matter to be on horses, get the poor kid back on ponies, it does tickle me to see the kids in the USA put on horses which are too big, what is that all about? good effort all the same, but come down a hand or 2
Yes you are correct she should be releasing & that was one of the areas that her trainer was working on. But heh, given that these were basically her first ever efforts going over most of these jumps there was always that little bit of fear factor in play so hanging on the bit is understandable - hit a showjumping rail it falls down, hit a cross country jump YOU fall down.... It is now 7 months since that footage was done and her technique and confidence has come along greatly.
aaaaaaa that girl breaks my heart by not releaseing and pulling in her horses mouth!!! that horse is not going to be forgiving much longer if she keeps it up!!
i think your daughter is doing really well. she is confident, and if she wasnt the horse wouldnt be either. they have a great friendship and i think they will go far in life together
4yo thoroughbred yes, bred at a racing stud - but as far as we have been able to establish he was never raced, nor did he even get to be barrier trialled. We think this is one reason he is so well natured and willing - particularly for his age.
what a wonderful, forgiving horse! i'd hike her stirrups up several notches and that might improve her release over the fence. if she continues to get left back and interfere w/the horse's head over the fence, he'll stop being so forgiving.
I totally agree. However she does well for stirrups being WAY too long, leaving her to use mainly her hands to balance herself. A good way to ruin a forgiving horse.
stirrups are there...they are matt black finish and a little hard to pick up on the video....and they may be a little long as she tends to be a little lazy in not resetting them after flat work - but when her idea of fun and games is jumping bareback with bitless halter, it becomes a little hard to push the issue sometimes
I thought her stirrups were super-long, but then I looked again--she doesn't have stirrups?! If that's the case, wow, she has a nice, consistent leg. You'd have to pay me to take solid obstacles in the first place, nevermind w/out stirrups! :) They look like a great team already, even though both of them are so young.
Such a gutsy young rider and a game horse--I'll be looking forward to watching them compete at the Rolex in a few years!

she is a very good rider for her age but she is too small for this TB and she gotta work on keeping the hands down and not swinging her legs..

I'd never have her stirrups so long, even for flatting.
She is a good little rider! I would have her stirrups about SEVERAL holes shorter and have her heels down, which the stirrup length would improve.
What a very forgiving horse!
