  • That is so fucking good education for children

  • heh..that thunder and lightning when the Count laughs is classic...

  • You'd think that being a vampire, the Count would see in the dark. And what's this? He's going to bed...at night?

  • @DismalSpectre00

that depends on what mythos of vampires you're looking at.... Bram Stoker's Count Dracula himself could walk in sunlight (even though he couldnt use his powers -- save for turning into a wolf or bat at midday)

  • I repeat this sometimes when I'm getting ready for bed

  • BTW jonnytbirdzback, I'd like to ask you something...

Which episode of "Plaza Sesamo" was the Spanish Version of this skit seen on?

  • @finnishminnow: I saw the Spanish dub of this sketch on an episode today, one that was probably 2-3 years old (before the Things of the Day announcement/new closing were added). Too bad Telefutura doesn't show the episode numbers in their broadcasts!

  • Okay, then.

  • kids cant quite tell those r light bulbs, but we can

  • Who the hell is Yuba? Does he like have a werewolf pet or something?

  • I wondered that, too. It could be a parody to the name Wolf Euba, who was a German actor/narrator. Just a guess. Only Jerry Nelson or one of the writers from that time would know for sure.

  • You probably hit the nail on the head.

  • The Count certainly did a great job of counting candles and by subtracting flames from them as of blowing them out. Wouldn't you agree to that, man?

  • Wow...what a classic Sesame Street skit!!! One of my favorites!

  • Mine too, man.

  • I love how nearly all the muppets say "DIS" instead of "this". I'm surprised a whole generation of kids don't have a speech impediment!

  • If it weren't for the moonlight, that room would've been pitch black after the count extinguished the flames. Would'nt it be funny if then we saw jsut the count's eyes??

  • The Count's a vampire so he should be able to see in the dark anyway.

  • @ncfwhitetigress:

That's right. That is correct! Vampires can supposedly see in the dark. And why is the Count going to bed at night? Vampires sleep during the day.

  • F*** i remember this sketch. I have always wanted to see it for the last 16 years

  • Say, did they show any reruns with the 1972-1983 Count in the 90's?

  • I don't think so. I was a big fan of Sesame Street in the 90s, but I don't remember seeing any reruns of Count from the 70s or the 80s. Maybe the managers of the children's program didn't want the kids of the 90s to get scared of Count. I know that I was never scared of him when I was little.

  • Now this is a really cool and scary sketch. I am sure I was probably afraid of this sketch when I was younger.

  • I remember this..except for the part where he almost trips over that chair and scares his pussy cat in the process.

  • Actually, he steps on the cat's tail, making the cat yowl.

  • Wow, no more thunder/lightning... no more signature organ music, I suppose, too? Yeah, OK- yes, in the 70's, the Count was a little scary when I was 3 or 4, but that STILL didn't turn me into a shivering ball of uselessness as an adult... welcome to the age of lawsuit-paranoid children's television.

  • Haven't seen this in ages...zero stars plus five stars, equals a big FIVE for you! Ah-ah-ah!

  • 4-1=3

    3-1=2

    2-1=1

    1-1=0 No light!

  • those 'flames' look suspiciouly like light bulbs.

I miss the thunder and lightning from the count sketches. they stopped doing it becase it was scaring some kids. Our children are being sissified. First they ban mother goose and because of decapitation rhymes like "oranges and lemons" and nursery tales because grandmother-eating wolves, now it's thunder and lightning being cut. What's next?

  • That's 'cause they ARE flicker flame light bulbs.

Like I said, I buy some at Home Depot stores sometimes.

  • Well they are light bulbs. We have those kinds on prop candles as part of Christmas decorations at my house.

They still do have thunder and lighting with the Count. They brought it back in 2005.

  • Wait... I didn't think they ever got rid of it...

  • 'How Illuminating!'- classic quote.

  • I learned a lot of great vocabulary words as a kid from Sesame Street, back in the old days (especially from The Count!) Did you catch his rocket ship clip, where he says the word, "scintillating?" Wow! :D They don't make Sesame Street the same any more.

  • Sure did. That clip is also posted too.

  • Yes, I've seen it. Still funny and cool, even after all these years. :D

  • Do you have the Plaza Sesamo version? It's been a long time since I've watched that show? I would like to see this sketch in Spanish! (Or any other language).

  • Finally! I knew there was a Count Clip where he stepped on his cat! Too bad we never get to see what his kitty looks like. Betcha she's black, though.

  • The only time we see The Count's cat, would be in these Sesame Street books which would include: The Sesame Street Sun, and The Sesame Street Circus of Opposites. Let me know if there was more of them

  • The Count's cat was also in "The Sesame Street Dictionary."

  • Oh, thanks! I nearly forgot about that book as well.

  • Was she a black cat? Sorry, I just love cats, that's all.

  • In answer to your question, in The Sesame Street Dictionary she was black/gray, in The Sesame Street Circus of Opposites, she looked like a combination of yellow, red, brown, and orange (its hard to tell), and in The Sesame Street Sun she wasn't really seen, but was mentioned.

  • I used to have a black cat named Scarlett.

  • This is obviously from the 1970s. And it's neat how they used electric candle-shaped bulbs in this one instead of real candles, probably so the Count could extinguish them easier without the danger of fire.

  • Yeah, I like flicker flame bulbs. I buy some of those once in a while at Home Depot stores.

  • Yeah. We have flicker-flame bulbs as part of Christmas candle decorations we got back in 2006.

  • @wiley207 No kidding. This sketch is where my interest in flicker flame bulbs started and then the first time I saw these in a store, they reminded me of this clip.
