This was on Sound Stage the first week I got my first VCR. I sat there in amazement, since I had never heard of The Roches before. Afterwards I kicked myself, realizing I had missed my chance to try out my VCR. Channel surfing several days later, I happened upon the same program being repeated. I grabbed a blank tape and history was made.
It's the first thing I ever recorded on my VCR and I still have it. (Since converted to DVD through the miracle of modern electronics).
"Go have a dream and hump it..." .. sung in the wonderful key of Off Minor...oh, that's soooo sweet. Can't decide which was better: the debut album or 'Nerds' (my two faves).
The wordplay found in the song is amazing. This is perhaps my all time favorite Roche song. Love the off key "we go on arguing..." part. Great song!! I'll never stop loving The Roches music.
I've always marveled at the range of their voices, and I've always found the performance of this song astonishing-those harmonies are without precedent, at least in the pop world. Many, many thanks for the post.
Bravo! Maggie's lyrics are so clever here (and deep). The harmonies are executed perfectly live; so impressive, especially during the "dissonant" harmony parts. Very cool writing. Thanks for posting.

This was THE concert that turned me on to the Roches... It was a PBS Soundstage if I'm not mistaken. I've loved them ever since.

Singing that dissonantly and yet in harmony is so hard. Such a brilliant device in a great song.

Maggie is one of the greatest, most under-rated songwriters ever. Witty, bittersweet, truthful, lovely...

Only the Roches can deconstruct a song and still make it sound beautiful. Thanks for posting.
