  • It looked very clean and precise. My Shodan exam consisted of the Shoden set along with Batto Jutsu Kihon no Waza and three from the Seitei Iai set, Morotezuki, Sanpogiri, and Ganmenate. I am due for the Nidan exam soon, which will cover Chuden. I've learned the Okuden i-waza set and I thought your performance was very crisp.

  • Thanks so much! I appreciate the compliment. I am also due for a Nidan exam in the summer for which I will perform the Iwaza No Bu set. Hopefully I will have a video of that for you then. :)

  • Does your federation do seitei or is it just koryu? Okuden just seems a bit advanced for a shodan grading...

  • I'd like to practice Iaido, unfortunatley there's nowhere round me area that does it. This is a cool vid.

  • why do people get knee injuries practicing iaido? is there something i am missing? i want to begin practicing iaido but i am wondering why people get knee injuries :P

  • It's because there is so much kneeling. There are several kata (at least in our system) that are performed on our knees rather than standing--when you practice those for a long time, your knees take a bit of abuse. If you have bad knees, you can still do iaido, but you'll probably want to avoid doing the kneeling kata.

  • ahh i see. do you think i should take iaido lessons or kendo? i am leaning towards iaido more, but i have no idea since i haven't ever been involved with any. i am not looking for doing anything for practical use fighting anyone, i just want to try something like this.

  • Then I would suggest iaido. Kendo is more like real time fighting and seems to be geared toward that since you work with partners all the time. Iaido is mostly single-person kata; teaches you how to use a sword, but for me it's very meditative because you're only working with/against yourself. I find it highly satisfying for that reason. Good luck and good training to you! :o)

  • thanks thanks!

  • thankyou, iaido will also fit in my week perfectly :D

  • Nice work ^_^

    Keep it up!
