  • sorry yes this was posted to wrong channel. my mom watches you also and has expanded her garden last year shes 83.

  • great advice and fun planting ideas in your videos. got e mail i won seeds from you in your last contest sent sase and list but have not heard back. ?? would be happy with any extra you have if you didnt have any on my list . keep up the great videos

  • @yessme1 I have never offered seeds as a prize in my contests. I offered shopping sprees. You maye have me confused with another channel. If you sent a self addressed stamped envelope, I have or will be sending lettuce, carrot, onion and tomato seeds. :)

  • Sticky Tape is addressing the symptom, not the source! I have a much better method. I will address this in a video soon, I hope you post it as a response here!. Remember we don't want bug carcasses on our flowers. Stay Trendy!

  • My bush beans attracts and kills these things!!!

  • Yea, I hate those fly paper things. Every one I ever bought got caught in my hair. Have you tried the paper cone in a glass trap? Or the vinegar soap trap? :)

  • a few years ago when gnats were making me crazy my dad came to the rescue. He told me just wait till evening when all the gnats seem to be landing and just vaccuum them up. It was almost like a machine gun just in reverse. It was fun sucking those little buggers up. In just a few minutes most of them were gone.

  • research nematodes...

  • My husband left one of those fly papers in the garage years ago and then I found my Schnauzer had it all wrapped around her. It was hard to get it out of her hair! I had to cut her hair because it was really messed up. LOL

  • @Angelofjusticia Oh what a nasty yet surprisingly funny situation as long as it's not me having to deal with it. Poor little Schnauzer. lol

  • Fly paper only gets adults! They lay some eggs before they go adventuring for new soil to infest. I've tried beer, distilled vinegar,apple-cider-vinegar in yellow and white cups. Sure gnats stuck to fly paper and drowned in liquids, but they don't go away. If it wont kill your plant, let the soil dry out to kill the larva, but you still have eggs in there that go dormant. Add a thick layer of pure sand on top so that they can't get out. Insert a tube with a screen and cap to water under the sand?

  • So I came across your videos a few days ago. Saw that another one of my favorite channels was subscribed to you... I've dedicated the last few days glued to your channel. I've watch all the video from the beginning til this point. I love you channel btw.

Just decided to write to say that I've enjoyed your channel. I hate that end some shows with a cliphanger though, especially since it's late and I'm ready for bed but I feel the urgge to watch the next video to find out what the surprise is...

  • @michaelayr84 LOL I gotta say I really enjoy these types of comments. You made my day Michael! Thanks. :)

ps: I also have a channel called VoodooGarden. Pace yourself though. lol

  • Feed them to your fish...waste nothing :)

  • you should see my sticky traps loaded with those buggers, and I know the compost has contributed to the problem, plus I just have gazillion plants indoors so they are going to be present..

  • i found this praxxus dude... watched all his videos.... and dude u planted a seed in my mind... that is gonna become reality this spring... i totally wanna grow my own food now.. thx buddy im already ordering heirloom seeds from different places... any suggestions for tomatoes??? what is your most reliable tomatoes in ur garden?? im curious because i think my weather is about the same.. and oh yeah.. will the seeds from the heirloom veggies be good seeds? worth keeping? thx man

  • @fkelly84 Welcome to the wonderland! Cherry tomatoes grow the fastest & best expecially in our climate. I prefer indeterminate. You get fruit consistantly, so you have some for fresh & some for canning, drying or freezing. As for vairties, it's a matter of taste. Go for what you like in flavor. I like polish linguisa because it's multi-purpose. It tastes great, produces profusely & stores very well. Beefsteaks are the least desireable due to time in ripening. Heirloom is best for saving seeds.

  • @Praxxus55712 cool! thanks... i already ordered "doe hill peppers" and "king of the north" peppers... im going to start them by my window and use 2 40wattcfls above them for suplemental lighting when i need it... i hope its enough to grow em strong..

  • Fungus gnats also pollinate wild flowers! Pipe vine (Aristolochia), Slink Pod (Scoliopus), and many more - including orchids!

  • I wrote the company who made the fungus gnat filled organic soil I bought last year and they told me to put a layer of sand on top of the soil, they said the Gnats can't get through the sand to lay eggs in the soil and their larva can't get through it to get out of the soil when they are mature and it breaks the cycle. I'll be trying that this year because last year the fungus gnats kicked my backside and killed a lot of my seedlings. If I see more Gnats I'll be trying the Sticky Stakes too!

  • You can also put 1/2 c. of CIDER VINEGAR in a container and add a few drops of liquid dish detergent. I use custard cups and have one on top of my fridge and one on top of my dining room hutch---both out of sight. Just add more vinegar/detergent as it evaporates. The vinegar attracts them, the detergent kills them.

  • @qwerty195808 The detergent breaks the surface tension of the vinegar so the flies sink and drown. This method does work pretty well.

  • @Praxxus55712

I know a solution for your little guests just take a machine gun, and well... you know.

  • @techdude1876 And here I am with only a shotgun. :(

  • @Praxxus55712

I use a small squeeze of lemon scent dish soap in a watering can then water as usual. You can do same mix into a spray bottle to get to more intricate areas. Just spray away. My certain potted indoor plants that had problems each spring were mature plants (I had 2 of them in 25 gal pots so you can't easily change soil)not seedlings but I don't think it would matter I've used this indoor and out...for gnats, aphids, any other l'l critters. Thanks to Jerry Baker the Yarden Guy--

  • Another great, simple way to get the 'sticky stuff' off from you is Oil. Cooking oil or pam or whatever food-safe oil you have. Then use soap/water to get the oil off ( that orange mechanic's hand soap works amazing to get the oil residue off, but not the stickey stuff). I've used Oil a lot, as I usually always have those hanging fly traps in my house. Had them stick to cupboards and on me before, Oil makes it come right off!.

Also, they only reduce the problem, not get rid of them.

  • I'll look for these sticky stakes locally. Amazon charging $4.99 for shipping is a rip off.

  • @I3addogy When I shop Amazon, I always click on the left to display only items eligible for super saver shipping. These are eligible, so I'll just add the few other small things I need to get over 25 bucks, and thats how to shop Amazon IMHO. Hope the tip helps others.

  • Great timing brother -- they are p0wning me! Bought some on amazon, would have been great if you had an affiliate link :)

  • Good stuff, Ray! I've actually cut the pieces into quarters for further savings. There's still enough yellow showing to attract bugs. Cheers!

  • OMG Ray, talk about perfect timing. I'm getting more and more plants growing and I noticed these little buggers flying around. I didn't think anything of it but now that I know they can be harmful I'm off to Amazon.

Once again, a brilliant and always entertaining Praxxus production.

  • How do you prop up an orange tree we took in the house this winter? Has alot of flowers right now, and it is about 3 feet tall, in the big container,, Love your channel!!

I am worried the oranges will weigh it down

  • @savgal1211 I would use dow rods or slim bamboo rods. Both can be found at arts and crafts stores. I'd slide the rods in the pot at the outer edges. This will keep the roots from getting damaged. You can then place a cross bar between them at the top. Connect these and then you can easily gently tie the stem and branches of the tree to them to fully support the tree. I have a demo video dealing with grape vines that shows the basics. You can adapt yours from this.

  • @Praxxus55712 Thanks!! We are gonna wait till it gets a litle "Heavier", and I hope you are doing some food storage, we have about 2 yrs worth, and this indoor growing you educate all of us on, is wonderful!! Thanks for the response!

  • I'm going to try double sided tape on Popsicle sticks. I think it'll work the same way, and it's what I have in the house at the moment.

  • Ewww yuck!! lol..having visions of that old movie with Vincent Price, "The Fly"..with you stuck to the fly paper going "Help meeee, Helllppp meeee!" hahaha

Wish I knew this last month..was infected w/fungus gnats from all my veg growing in the house & collecting compost ..even tho it was covered up they managed to sneak in the bag and breed like crazy..finally got rid of them via drowning & baiting them with honey on paper plates, also bleach in the compost bucket.

  • The sticky stuff will not solve the problem for long. Carnivorous plants have an attractant that continually brings them in. Check out pitcher plants, they are easier than venus fly traps to grow. Also a fan helps to drive the gnats out. Venus fly traps grow well in a bottle of your liking.

  • @phantomcreamer Carnivorous plants? None of my plants are carnivorous. Probably a good thing too. I don't want my plants chewing on me. :)

  • @Praxxus55712 LMAO I NEEDED THAT... its been bad day today hahah

  • @Praxxus55712

I have picther plants around my area. I will try to pot one this year. Pitcher plants eat attract and eat insects. They are natural flypaper. Orange peel also removes gooey stuff like flypaper.

How do you lift that pot when full? With the skid steer? I had some big plastic pots and they ripped open when I tried to move them.

  • @Praxxus55712 See me ode to carnivorous plants - "Carnivorous plants and mosquitoes" on youtube - on my channel

  • I like and watch all your vids but the sound sucks mow, its all muffled

  • @jimhuntermj21 You mean in the second half where I'm wearing the red shirt? If so, that's because of the stupid wireless mic. I'm beginning to hate that thing.

  • YOU GOT A NEW HOUSE! I know it.

  • HI

  • You don't know how lucky you are that you did not have long hair when you tangled up in your fly strip. You think it is hard to get off your face and hands - you should try to get it out of your hair!!

This is the first year I have had those little gnat things in the house. I will have to check out those sticky things that go in the pots.

  • Ok Ray - PLEASE - you have to start your next video with you jumping out of that pot! ^^

  • Hey Ray, I have gnats too and I put apple cider vinegar on a small plate and place it around my pots and they love it! They get on the plate and drown! It works!

  • i have the same screensaver!

  • I look forward to seeing your Videos!!!

  • Yellow sticky traps, Last year my strawberries had a snowstorm of white-flies, those tiny, delicate-looking replicators will land on anything!

  • If spray foam gets on my hands, I'll just work some flour into the sticky residue, and that will remove most of it, leaving a thin coating of flour, so I don't stick to anything else : )

  • glad to see your video be for the adds are up

  • If only you had the camera going when you got stuck on the fly paper. lol. Sounds like something I would do. I buy my fly paper from Dollar Tree in a 4 or 5 pack. I hang them up high. Of course when company comes over, I take them down but we have a fly and moth problem.

  • Ray, did you get in trouble with the ad thing, and they took them away from you?

  • @shelly7575 It takes up to 12 hours for Youtube to insert ads on videos after they're uploaded.

  • @Praxxus55712 even if I look at old videos, the ads are not appearing on the videos for me any more; however, there is an ad up in the top right corner above the list of suggested videos. Are those the same as the annoying ones that were on the actual video that I used to click to minimize?

  • @anniequilts Yep, those are the same. I checked and the ads on the videos are working for me except on this one, which hasn't had time to be inserted yet.

  • Hey! Where's the ad to click on?I wanted to see that Humidifall thingie again! And, how long did it take for your Crocus to pop up? I went crazy here a couple nights ago and planted a bunch of them...

  • @jonathanhaslar The ads won't show up for a little while. Youtube is slow to insert them sometimes.

  • Ray i can't see any AD to click on, put an on so i can click on it .

  • ....Any tips you can give me Ray I would really appreciate. I will also give some of these sticky tapes a try along with anything else you can suggest.

  • As you have done a video on pest/bug control of Ray, I been meaning to ask you, as you are the tomato king. What do you use for keeping aphids and other bugs off your tomatoes? I know it's a while off the time yet for growing them, but I have had 2 bad years of growing tomatoes and really want to get a good crop this summer. But those aphids always weaken my plants, I have tried soapy water but not much difference they always come back.....

  • I feel for you. I went through the same thing.

  • We use a product called "Tanglefoot" looks like carmel and seems to work pretty well. Especially well on paper wrapped around the base of our fruit trees to keep ants/aphids off tree.

    Thanks for the video Ray

  • my sis uses these inside and out...in their potted plants. good video. giggles about how many times you said i cant tell you to click the ads...hahahaha. whispers ill click your ads everytime. i can hardly wait to see your garden grow. waves~~~
