I here you. I used to work at Electronic Arts on the NFS franchise and not seeing my family and friends because of deadlines was murder. They wanted me to renew my contract but when I wanted reassurances that I wouldn't be working 80 hr weeks only to be handed a cheque for 37 1/2, human resources just laughed at me. Never again. Left me bitter about the whole industry.
