Hi! I've got GTA IV and installed and I can play it. But when I'm in a vechile it lags alot.

This is my computer:

4 GB RAM

512 MB ATI Mobility Radeon 4570

Intel Pentium processor T4300 (2.1 GHz 800MHz FSB)

Anyone got a idea why it lags, I know the processor is not the best for the game, but it should still run pretty good.

lol install patch 1.0.3.0 or 1.0.4.0 then u will prolly get - 10 fps (if u had 30 now u have 20 ) at night or with lights

The 2X means that the Video Card, got two video cards in it. so the 4870 X2 Is not one video card but two of the 4870... and it has 2 GB of memory..

Ah, yeah, I found that out earlier today.

I looked at the 2x cards but I noticed they're like $600 Canadian, so I was looking at the HD4870 1024MB. Would that be good with a Core-2-Quad, Vista Home Premium, and 3GB RAM? the major difference is that the 4870 has one gpu and the 4870 x2 has 2.

and therefore has double the memory (2 gigs of GDDR 5). it's not always that way tho.

Unfortunately, GTA IV only picks up one of the two GPU and thus detects 1GB when it should be too. This makes me question whether it only uses 1 GPU instead of 2 as well.

It may be using both GPUs after all. I think the real reason I (and you too likely) only see 1GB of VRAM is because both GPUs have to contain the same contents in VRAM in order to work properly. In other words, one GPU can not read the other's VRAM (and if it did, it'd be horribly slow). This would of course go for all applications and games. It's a marketing trap though that it is advertised as a 2GB card when only 1GB is usable in game. Nevertheless, at 1280x1024, you can max out everything

hmmm now that i read your post i remember something. i recall reading something that said that only 1 gig of 2 shows up not because of only using 1 gig but because of the fact that both gpu's have each 1 gig and most applications don't calculate the total amount usable but just what is detected in this case 1 gig per gpu. at least it was something like this i think

u shouldnt go for 1600mhz, u must rememb that timings is important and the difference between the 1600 and 1333mhz isnt big, but the 1333`s timing 7-7-7-20 contra 8-8-8-24`s timing is a markable difference.

Im getting the i7 ready 1333mhz for a reason.

The reason is that its proven their best for gaming.

Hello Mate, I can help u with this. What u do is:

1. Make a .txt document in the GTA IV folder, name it "commandline" without the quotes.

2. Open it and type "-norestrictions" without quotes in in.

3. Save the file and Launch The Game, U can now set the textures to HIGH
