This wasn't always my favorite moment to play (the keyboard patching was difficult), nor was it always the most intensely moving ("Another Day" can be overwhelming too), but it was my favorite moment musically in the show before we started, and it still is.

I think in no way could any movie top RENT, but I think they did a  wonderful job trying to re-create it. The movie enabled people to discover the phenomenon RENT and that's fantastic, but the live show performed the way Jonathan Larson intended it can and will top any recreation of it.

I don't see what the complexity of the song has to do with anything. I have no issues with the the performances of the actors (excepting the stunt-cast Rosario Dawson, who can't sing.) The director, on the other hand butchered RENT, and should be, at the very least, soundly beaten.

I haven't a clue what you mean by "as well." The movie was horrid. It's all the fault of the director. He absolutely ruined RENT in an attempt to make it more "cinematic" and of greater appeal to people who don't frequent the theatre.

Dead-panning song lyrics (as dialog) was the biggest mistake in a sea of mistakes. It just sucked the life out of the production. It should have been done theatrically, like The Producers.

I know what you meant. I was saying that the movie didn't work out well at all. It was horrible, and the reason why is that they tried to change it in order to appeal to people who haven't spent thousands of dollars seeing RENT. I have to believe that it would have made more money if they had stayed faithful to the play and played to the core RENThead audience.

When I saw it on Broadway this past week, it was just Mimi. The subtext was indeed that Mark is always thinking about her, even when she's not at all related to the topic at hand. ( The girl who was trying to pick up Roger, for example. ) It's just Mark and Roger talking, mark starts to leave, and Roger points out "her." Mark runs back, thinking it's Maureen. Etc.

they changed the dates because in movie format the songs took to long and it wouldn't seen like the same day. the movie is only like, an hour and a half long, and they couldn't let the first 3/4 all be one day. as it was, even 2 days was a small amount of time for that much of the movie to occur. the play is longer, and didn't have such a huge amount of the year stuck into one montage with one song (without you). they could devote more time to one day in the play, since it was longer.
