Did you make the visuals in Quartz? I would love to know how you did the visual aspect of this video. It would be amazing to perform and have my APC be the lightshow. =]
i read that this Monome-on-APC40-thing works even without MAX/Msp or M4L... but how can this work?? i dont even own MAX/Msp or M4L... everybody shows and talks about that it works, only by mapping and stuff, but i dont know how it works...any idea where i can get a template from? ...btw great visuals, what are they made with?
hi does this run flinn, mlr and boiing ? just asking as they are my favorite monome patches
after thinking that monome patches would feel odd on the apc caus of the lack of a same size 8x8 grid i realised how many use the bottom for control buttons anyway so in a way it makes more sense
It should work with any monome app out there - as long as the apps don't use frame. I don't think many do and i've heard frame doesn't work with the OS X version of monomeserial either. about the apc as a monome, I actually like it better, the buttons on the monomes are tiny. Its hard for me to get a in a real groove because im always concentrating on hitting the buttons. With the apc i can be more relaxed because i don't have to worry about missing the buttons so much...
I agree with your point as to ideas and new ways of thought developing by using things for something other than their original intended purpose, like the tb303 is a great example of that. I just dont see the point of this particular app whether its on a monome or an apc40. If i set my pc screen resolution to 8 by 8 pixels and flashed a few really basic patterns on it would it still count as art in your books?
I think you're completely missing the point. The software on display here is sending MIDI out in a way that the APC40 is not intended for, creating music using a patch created in Max. The lights are showing the user which pad is actively sending MIDI out at any given point so that user can manipulate the MIDI (and therefore audio) on-the-fly, in whichever way that particular patch allows you to do so. The pretty lights aren't the point of the software; it's doing a lot else besides...
Why watch another video of someone playing with a monome app. Who cares? The point of this is art, Im using the APC in a non traditional way to create. Also, the blinkie lights is a Monome graphics framework called shado. so it is actually showing a Monome app working on the APC40...If people followed that logic humans never would have hit two rocks together to make percussion, or then tied animal skins to a hollowed out piece of clay to make the first drum, because thats not what skins are for
I know I'm probably being a fool, but is there anyway to run this through Ableton? The patch is killer.

the apc40's standard function is alot more limited than monome / a max patch interpreting the controls
