Mado Robin may not have been as perfect as some of the star coloratura sopranos today, but she was an authentic and unique opera star! Her recording -on the London Richmond label was the first complete recording of Lakme I was able to buy- a great experience- also the great bass- baritone, Jean Borthayre was Nilakantha-thank you!
I really enjoy Robin's singing!. I must tell I have an LP box of the complete opera by the opéra comique and there she sounds more controlled and diaphanous.
it's from a US VHS "Mado Robin-live" all Mado Robin videos on YT came from the French TV archives between 1955 and 1958 . But i hope we'll can see in the future more with Mado, for example the Russian TV archives. IN 1959 , Mado sang one concert for the sovietTv and this one was broadcasted in allover the country
Madó Robin es indiscutiblemente el fenómeno vocal más increíble, junto con Rayen Quitral, las notas extremas de Madó son como rayos de sol, pese a que su timbre no sea grato,es inolvidable para todos los que amamos la coloratura
what the hell happend at 0:30? she got flat! and she's been the highest opera soprano with Snak until today... you can see the diferrence between this first mistake and the right one at 01:06. Voice 4.5 character 3. it's funny that is not posible to see her face...

truly dreadful singing Robin conjures up all the vocal flaws a coloratura soprano could ever have. I mean she is the nightmare that all coloratura soprani should be afraid of becoming.
Honestly, I've never liked Mado Robin that much and to me, this is a so-so performance of the Bell Song. Yes, the A is nice, but what else is there? I've never found her timbre to be particularly beautiful either. 2.5/3
When she gets up to the coloratura, there's some great stuff there, in addition to a Gallic singing style. As mentioned before though, there are some quite rough moments. It sounds as though she was nervous. What I do really appreciate is finally seeing her in something not specifically setup for a TV show. Thanks for the interesting clip coloraturafan! You have such rare material! 3.5/3
yes OK, the beginning is pretty bad. but as soon as she gets into coloratura territory from 2mins in to this video, she really does start shining, not least of all when she hits that fantastic A6!!
Of course she gets a 5/5. She does pitch it like she's nervous, her studio recordings of it are much better. She sings it lighter than anyone else and despite being a middle aged European woman, she could believably play a 14 year old Indian girl!
If one accepts the technical limitations of Robin's voice, the singing is not bad. I like the bright tone, the French style, and the charm. But she sings it with little feeling and merely as a display piece (which, of course, it is). 4/4
She's flat in parts. It's interesting, though, because you can hear the direct line from Lily Pons through Mado Robin to Mady Mesple (who owned this role for a while and should be here). The pitch problems make my teeth ache. 2/3
The most beautiful voice. Une des plus belles voix hélas trop tôt disparue

Very good, but I still think this song belongs to Lily Pons.

As always her coloratura is great. However, other parts of the aria are real flat. 3.5/3.5

This video is a priceless gem. Though not the best of technique or beauty of voice, she is one of a kind. 4/3
Since this is the last soprano in this 'contest' I've listened, I find Natalie Dessay the best.

Stronger than Dessay, but not as musical, or at least not as actressy. Somehow it's a lot more honest.

Wow! I was not expecting such good singing from Robin. This is pretty shocking material. That being, said she's still not my favorite timbre. 4/5.
