It's really a shame, that the orchestras at ESC were abolished just one year after probably one of the best orchestras, the BBC Concert orchestra, made its marvellous performance in the ESC 1998! Their highlight performances IMO: Croatian, Romanian, Dutch, Norvegian, Turkish entry. Even the french composers decided to write a live string arrangement right during the rehearsals, after they had heard that wonderful orchestra performing (at first it should have been a full instrumental playback)!
I can't understand how come almost ALL the mistakes in the history of the contest were made by Spain - how come they don't keep a closer eye on their voting process ?
1979 - gave both Portugal and Israel 10 points
1996 - Mixing Poland and the Netherlands (why did they insist calling it Holland in a first place when the standard is calling it Netherlands?)
1998 - skipping Germany with the 12 points
2003 - trying to give 9 points
2010 - Not showing the semi final were supposed to vote in.
@SimsMoyal I think the answer for 96 is because in Spanish Netherlands/Holland is Paises Bajos/Holanda... maybe they preffer to call it they way it sounds closer...
