Music was so cool i watched it twice---I'm a little out of my comfort zone when it comes to rebuiling heads but with "High Roller" rockin in the background I just might pull this off... Oh and thank you for sharing this video--i really appreciate it!
@petros172 actually not "permanent marker", but rather a dye (perma-blue).....but your method sounds good, I'll have to try next time. Mahalo for watching.
Actually it's no use to show the seating area on the valve right after lapping. It then always looks like it's touching all around because tiny gaps are filled with the grinding paste, so they are ground but will not touch when both valve and seat are thoroughly cleaned. I mark it afterwards with a permanent marker and then check in clean conditions. Then you now if contact is ok when all is clean.
Doesn't This Method Screwup the Valve Guides. To hold the Drill 100% accurately.Use a suction cup tool for the drill in the other side would be more effective.
Thanks for Your Sharing Experience with Us!!Helpful
@mickeygovender --No, the valve guides can take the minute stress ..
The reason I could not use the suction cup is because of small pits on the face of the valves (no suction, vacuum bleeds off...no seal with small pits).
The valve guides were new as well, so there was no play in the stem motion laterally. Aloha, UC
@UnderseaCaveman I had loads of Carbon on my Valves&Stems.I put all of em into a plastic Container and used Lemon Juice and Battery Acid. The Carbon just fell off in the morning.I tried Engine Gunk,Wire Brush,Parafin and the ol Coke Method but they didn't work.Maybe this might help someone in the same predicament!!
@mickeygovender I wouldn't advise someone, especially the newbies who might be reading, to experiment with battery acid. If you want to remove the carbon from the intake valves, as well as the tops of the pistons and combustion chamber themselves, just run some methanol in your running engine. Those who run turbo chargers know exactly what I'm talking about, as a little alky injection (methanol) will make your engine parts looking brand spanking new....
@mickeygovender Stuck piston rings? Just pull the spark plugs and squirt some WD40 into the cylinders, give it some time, then turn the engine over by hand. As for what I mentioned earlier, always remember that there are kids reading this, and that is why I wouldn't recommend using battery acid. I'm sure it works, but just be careful....
i find it interesting how many mechanical [on their own time] people are also able and tend to understand world issues and the NWO and you know that stuff. it seems the hard work and deep thinking necessary for that translates into the other stuff
Agree, I think that Mechanical Thought requires a certain Logical Discipline ... or else "shit just don't work"... you either do everything "clean and correct" or shit blows up in your face (and I have had plenty of that happen to me...LOL). Like you said, that same logical discipline then translates into other observations like "Geez, I wonder why we have INFLATION...follow the money to its logical conclusion".
Right. You know, it's like this, you see immediately with any amount of studious effort in understanding something like the economics, and you ask yourself why are they doing htat, or say that is stupid or that doesnt make sense.... but after a while, you stop thinking you're smarter thanthe people running hte govt, you learn to say ''who benefits' because you treat it not as innocent mistakes but as purposeful scheming and criminal activity. btw, I recently changed the head gasket on 3vz-fe
LMAO, I remember using the hand lapping as a kid, geee what an exciting arvo in the shed that was with Dad....:) I like your method when there is no child labour available LOL!!
yeah really. i mean, i would find a way to get off the island if the shit hits the fan. its just one big prison, really. a car that doubles as a boat is wonderful.
Funny, you should mention "if shit hits fan, just one big prison"... I was having that discussion with someone else on Island. I was advocating staying on Island, the people really do well here when shit hits the fan. When we had our Earth Quake a little while ago, and Island lost power for 24hr, nothing happened, no riots, no looting....everybody managed the 4-way intersections (traffic) politely and in good order. But having a boat to "get away to smaller island" is very good.
dude i know you just said that to lift your spirits in spite of the the deeply disturbing truth you know. i stand by assertion, and i think you know why I'm laughing at what you said. if not, if the case is that you're puzzled, well, i like you, we're internet friends, so of course i will explain if needed. but, i think you of all people know at least some of what i do about this.
Qui... I know (deeply disturbing possiblities).... in that kinda shit, I just want to get to Molokai...lots of hunting and fishing, and good island (ocean) people..
Agree, a Darwin Test ...and something I would like to pass (with at least a "C", if not better). Yeah, the answer would be "Escape to the Country" (the woods, the backwaters, etc.).
you have no escape, the first thing the guard does is secure major travel pinch points, and they control the waters
there are a lot of people, people will even swim to the various islands that make up your state. you're all going to be competing for extremely limited resources. you have over a million people, and if I had to guess I would say HI makes it impossible to have guns, to carry them legally is probaly not allowed either...so... only the crooks and/or militar will
befriend someone permanently stationed there, in your age group, in the military or national guard, if you haven't already, might be a good thing until you actually decide to leave that death trap. HI on its own is agreat place to live, maybe 150 years ago when it was a kingdom and all that jazz, 1million people and huge military later, and de-arming of hte populace later.... if i were you, and i might be misguided about laws there, i would get weapons even if illegal, just be careful to hide
Concur....I have been thinking about the Plus 1 million on Oahu....and if "shit happens"....there will lots of STARVATION.. In Fact, OAHU represents the "most isolated plus million people in the world"... Thanks for the video. Great. Just wondering though how you are going to be finger printed now after holding those valves in? ;)

not sure if this is good for the valve guides ....a high twisting rpm might create wear..nice job on the video though

how do you check the valve and valve seat with the permanent marker?after lapping the valves i use compressed air and petrol to check for leackage

are you using a cutting compound ? and should the springs be replaced with larger ones or do you loose enough metal to care about ?
lesterclaypool1 1 year ago
@lesterclaypool1 Yes, I am using lapping compound. The metal loss is not great enough to warrant heavier springs.

if the valves have pits, they need to be remachined. there's really no way around that.
wed3k 2 years ago
Pits on the face, so the suction tool wont stick all that well.

bosnabob,
Exactly, so I turned to "driving" the valve with an airtool from the other side.

but for anyone else,
after 6days of no electricity, things change
after 3 days of little food, things change
in a REAL [not the media pursued swine flu bs] pandemic, things change
in an insurrection/rebellion, things change
an island that is only run by having massive imports to keep it going is even scarier. a real test of darwin's sick theory that will be.
big place like the states along the gulf of mexico, things went really bad. type in Katrina in a search engine
