This book does a good job of portraying what it would be like if their were no choices for anything at all and there was no color, music, or any creativity of any kind. So imagine being someone who can feel those things living in a world like that. Keep in mind that in the books society you are killed for having the slightest inperfectcy

I just finished reading the book.

A movie would be great, but half the fun about reading the book was figuring out all the things about their world! If there was a movie you'd know right away there was no colour, and it was in the future, and lots of other surprising secrets.

In "Messenger" it said "...the schoolteacher, gently tutored a mischievous eight-year-old named Gabe..." so he survived and also in the book it said that the Leader was telling Matty the very first thing he saw beyond, was an apple...now who was the person in "The Giver" who saw beyond and it was an apple..."Jonas"! Giver: self explanatory

Gathering Blue: "Companion Book" nothing to do with giver. Same world, different place. A little girl's mother dies and she has to go and be the sewing girl for a big tribal council. Really disturbing. Ends with a character Mattie coming back with blue dye, which hasn't existed for years.

Messenger: Positively the best book. Mattie from Gathering blue lives in "VIllage" where Jonas is the leader. People are trading away their souls and such. Mattie has healing powers.:)

me and my class saw a play of the book. some parts of the play were hilarious. idont mean to be crude here but at first when jonas got a memory the giver said " get on the bed. relax this wont hurt" me and my friends all yelled RAPE!!!! xD there was this other part at the end where we got to ask questions. the tour guide asked "how many of you own the book?" only the prep-school kids raised their hands. then my friend eric yells DORKS! lol but again im not trying to be rude here.
