Hi I live in west Milford not far from jungle habit and I can tell u that there is no crazy wild lose animals around the animals were taken away but when it was opened my day found a zebra that got lose but don't worry no dangeress animals got out oh and west Milford is an amazing town I live here both my patents live and grew up here and they still don't want to leave after the rain and snow we've been getting
I remember articles in the newspapers about some of the cats being killed for trophies. It was very sad since I'd been there a bunch of times. I never realized it was Warner Brothers that owned it.
Sad to see a place I went to at 7 years of age go like this. I remember the zebra jeeps us kids could take & go on. My sister was only 4 back then. Thanks for sharing...
@T0vie it was an Israeli tourist who rolled down his window to get a better look that got lacerations to his face and shoulders from the 2 lions. A woman was also hurt by a baby elephant but that's all I could find as far as people getting hurt.
@T0vie also the park didn't close for good after that attack, it closed years later when the town wouldn't allow them to expand it like they wanted to.
I went there once before it closed, and clearly remember all the hoopla when the park was found to be deserted and all those dead animals inside. Such a shame things ended the way they did.....
@HattieLovesCattie a lot were given to other zoos, some birds escaped from what I know, a lot of the stories people have created are exaggerated and not true
@HattieLovesCattie I'm not sure how many had died, but I recall our local newspaper having a huge story about it, including some photos of the poor dead animals. (New York Television news stations went on and on about it too). It was something I'll never forget. It was a beautiful area, true. :-) I believe one of the "Weird New Jersey books has a short chapter about it as well.
went looking for JH last night cudnt find it we went in the dark tho...can someone PLEASE message me asap how to find the entrance i rlly want to see this place im going back tomorrow also on clinton road thers other things to see and do if anyone knows anything about them please send me a message much apprecited thanks guys
I drive through West Milford every day, and I can't find where the old ruins of Jungle Habitat were. Does anyone know exactly where the old entrance is?
it's by an airport, I've wanted to check it out as well but it looks like it's been ripped up. Is the entrance still even there? I noticed the sign is gone now :(
Rocknroller Don! Dude!! This is the first time I've seen Jungle Habitat in over THIRTY YEARS! That's right, I was no more than 7 or 8 when my folks took me there. Sad to see it in this condition.
A lot of the animals were moved to a farm near Waywayanda State park and stayed there in barns for quite a long time. Imagine how hot those barns got in the summer, animal rights activists got involved because Warner Bros. just abandoned them. They finally moved them ot zoos, the ones that survived .
oh okay...I guess it was just rumors. I know there were a couple of people that were injured by the animals so maybe that is how the rumor was started. I use to go there with my parents when I was little.
perfect.....you did a great job....I am founder and Director of SOUTHERN JERSEY SHORE PARANORMAL RESEARCH AND INVESTIGATIONS..in ocean county, part of our research that we are starting to do along with our paranormal investigations in going to be looking at weird nj....mostly the abandoned ares, this video is very good...I would love for you to contact me.....about getting together with the group and looking into this area of research
You guys did a nice job on this video I like old places I use too go to this place plus Sterling Forest Gardens we should get together I love exploring old places
Noo it did not killed a girl - the lion went up to a man in a taxi car and killed him and a lady got injury by a baby elephant - this place is creepy alone people that eats people live near a street near there ScArY.
No one was ever killed at Jungle Habitat. Yes, a lady was injured by en elephant and a man was injured by a lion when he rolled down his window to take a picture. I believe he had arm, shoulder and neck injuries.
i went there actually a couple weeks ago. It sucks cause my uncle told me when he was in high school he and his friends would go there with all the stuff still there. It was very creepy he said.
we had a peacock that lived across from our house at the old town sand pit for 2 years after it closed, and tha was 5 miles away. it also had a small amusment park inside.
My dad told me that he used to go there when he was a kid. We used to ride our bikes and quads through the whole place, and I would freak out if I found something new. The coolest thing we found was some kind of pool and a hut with a panel full of buttons. Presently, everything is gone; they torn down the sign and everything inside it.
Someone asked me a few questions about Jungle Habitat so here's a breif summary. Warner Brother (Looney Tunes fame)ran this place in the 1970's in West Milford, NJ then abandoned it when the town denied them to expand and compete against places like Six Flags/Great Adventure...supposely all the animals were let loose or died...
would love to go there and see whats left of it iam not to far away i just wish i knew the area better

they closed it because some town officials were shaking them down for bribes

I thought it got closed because Warner Bros wanted to add rides and stuff and the town declined.

My friend and I took a hike through there about 15 years ago and the JUNGLE HABITAT sign was still on the entry display. Now which bozo stole it????!

they shut this place down because of the animal cruelty. I use to go here during the late 70s..I was really little
Libitina72 3 years ago
It was not shut down for animal cruelty. Warner Bros. shut it down because the town voted down expanding the park by adding amusement rides.

No, the animals were not let loose. That is an urban legend. They sold them off when the park closed.
