Cliff Curtis sucked donkey balls as Ozai! and while i do think the casting of McCartney, Rathbone, and Peltz was fucked up cause they sucked too, i don't think race factors that much. The other indian actors besides Dev sucked because they skimped on getting good talent and didn't want to cast from Bollywood. Jackie Shroff could have played a badass Ozai (minus the accent) but they didn't want to spend too much on the main villain.

Im offended that this cast isn't diverse....having all asian is just as offensive as an all white...even though the real movie cast IS diverse. People who claim they won't go see Shaymalan's movie are lying, they'll go see it even if it is to pick the movie apart.
Well the characters in the television show are not very diverse, either. It is quite obvious that all of the characters are Asian. Look at the way they write, listen to the series' background music, look at what they eat and what they eat with (chopsticks). Look at the emphasis placed on dragons and legends and martial arts. Even the names sound Asian.
With a cast that is so obviously Asian in the cartoon, many of us do not understand how M. Night could have hired an all-white cast.

The cast IS heavily diverse in the series. The show was BASED on Asian culture. Asia does not exist in the Avatar world. So I'm glad M Night is making a diverse cast.
Having an all-white cast (save Dev Patel) is not diverse. Katara and Sokka are dark skinned. They should not be portrayed by White actors.
Of course Asia would not exist in a fantastical cartoon. However, that does not mean that the characters cannot look Asian. The characters look Asian.

According to what I've read, the races in Avatar are supposed to be all different, you're only seeing the main characters thus far and not giving it a chance.
When I first saw the Avatar tv show, I never thought for once that the characters looked Asian, they were just characters. I don't need to separate races to enjoy a film. I never said Asians were superior either. I only said I'm offended that you want an all Asian cast, that is no different than having 'an all white cast' as you put it.
The main characters represent their whole society as far a looks go.

The characters are all different by means of facial features. In my opinion, Water = indian,inuit, native american, african, Earth= mix of caucasian, asian, and native american, Fire = mix of asian, caucasian, Air = indian, asian, caucasian.

But unfortunately he isnt Indian so he cant be in firenation...no Asians allowed... except Azula. Im offended that this cast isn't diverse....having all asian is just as offensive as an all white...even though the real movie cast IS diverse. People who claim they won't go see Shaymalan's movie are lying, they'll go see it even if it is to pick the movie apart.

Well the characters in the television show are not very diverse, either. It is quite obvious that all of the characters are Asian. Look at the way they write, listen to the series' background music, look at what they eat and what they eat with (chopsticks). Look at the emphasis placed on dragons and legends and martial arts. Even the names sound Asian.
With a cast that is so obviously Asian in the cartoon, many of us do not understand how M. Night could have hired an all-white cast.

The cast IS heavily diverse in the series. The show was BASED on Asian culture. Asia does not exist in the Avatar world. So I'm glad M Night is making a diverse cast.

Having an all-white cast (save Dev Patel) is not diverse. Katara and Sokka are dark skinned. They should not be portrayed by White actors.
Of course Asia would not exist in a fantastical cartoon. However, that does not mean that the characters cannot look Asian. The characters look Asian.
A racist is one who discriminates against another race because of the belief that one race superior. I never said that Asians were superior. I am no racist. Learn the meaning of a word before using it.

According to what I've read, the races in Avatar are supposed to be all different, you're only seeing the main characters thus far and not giving it a chance.
When I first saw the Avatar tv show, I never thought for once that the characters looked Asian, they were just characters. I don't need to separate races to enjoy a film. I never said Asians were superior either. I only said I'm offended that you want an all Asian cast, that is no different than having 'an all white cast' as you put it.

The main characters represent their whole society as far a looks go.
If the characters had resembled Caucasians, I would want them to be Caucasian. I said the characters looked Asian because of their black hair and slanted eyes [better noted on adult characters].
The point is that the makers of Avatar gave it a strong Asian feel and that's what I want from the movie. You won't get that from white actors.
We will just have to agree to disagree... Just don't call me a racist ever again.

The characters are all different by means of facial features. In my opinion, Water = indian,inuit, native american, african, Earth= mix of caucasian, asian, and native american, Fire = mix of asian, caucasian, Air = indian, asian, caucasian.
Everyone is just uptight about this because the animation is based on Japanese style anime.
Learn to deal with it, there's gonna be a lot more calling you rascist and if you can't handle it then maybe you should refrain from posting about Avatar.

Not as many people as you think will see me as a racist. It would be good to see an American movie that shows Asians as the main characters rather than the typical white or black.Ultimately, I am advocating diversity in Hollywood. That is not racism.
I will say that I still plan on seeing the movie. However, my expectations are *very* low and I still doubt that they will be met. I don't even like the movie trailer and if's about more than the way the characters look.

Nothing you've said is racist. There are too many people who simply think that "bringing up race" is racist. The weak defenses of the racist, whitewashed casting are old, long-used faulty forms of thinking/expression that are used by the majority and/or those who support the status quo to fall on the side of white privilege. The world of Avatar is Asian in the same way that Lord of the Rings is European. Hollywood has a history of putting whites in yellowface and this movie is no different.

I'm just so tired of seeing people going to such absurd lengths to defend their faulty, flimsy and ignorant arguments. They go so far out of their way to justify the casting and argue that there's nothing Asian about the show that it almost seems like they're paid by Paramount to do PR work. Racism goes so deep that these people can't see how white privilege is reflected in the casting.
