good to watch the old stones, with the man brian jones playing,he could play any thing ,i like the stones always will ,but not the same without brian jones.
Fuck you Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Richard Ashcroft wrote one of the most beautiful songs in recent history, and you both stripped him of his glory, you old, gutless bastards. You couldn't handle the fact that the song he wrote was having such success, so you went and fucked it all up for everyone. Yeah, because you sooo desperately needed those royalties, like you don't have enough from all the other overrated shit songs you cunts wrote. Fuck off, rollover & fall in a pit of rusty needles
@nokingnolies Hey fuckface... Ashcroft obtained the right to sample Andrew Loog Oldham's orchestral version of "The Last Time", and when it became a huge hit, Jagger/Richards and Oldham decided to sue, claiming that Ashcroft abused his privilege to sample... The original orchestral arrangement is 1 riff looped for 3 minutes. Ashcroft took the main riff and used it as the basis for "Bitter Sweet Symphony". Jagger & co. won in court, and then went even further by getting the songwriting credits
Rumors floating about that Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are meeting in NY this month (January) to discuss a new CD and then a new tour -yes, in 2012. A 50-year anniversary tour in the makes for the Rolling Stones. Any fans out there? "Oh nooo, could this be 'The Last Time'"? ;-)
@housemonzter In fact, much people thinks that RS ruined The Verve but really was RS Manager, a very sad, sad story. Both bands are great, sorry for Richard Ashcroft. Maybe you can undestand better if listen Last Time of Andrew Oldham Orchestra (RS Manager) search it.
Bitter Sweet Symphony, according to wikipedia, "is based on music from an Andrew Loog Oldham adaptation of a Rolling Stones song, 'The Last Time'".
Andrew Loog Oldham was manager and producer of The Rolling Stones.
Basically, the Stones' manager created his own orchestrated version of this song, and then The Verve sampled that song to create Bitter Sweet Symphony. Google/YouTube it!
@Zacker18 just pisses me the stones claiming credits for bittersweet because there is a kinda pastiche in the first part. anyway pathethic, centuries ago that was actually expectable.
why is it that the best rock music comes from the british? such as the rolling stones, the beatles, a flock of seagulls, iron maiden, led zepplin, blur, queen, electric light orchestra (aka ELO) deep purple, the clash, and even the ramones, and the only thing america is good at is hip hop? america has many good rock bands too but not as many as england, why is that? i think that the best american rock band has to be the smashing pumpkins
Hey guys, if you have a spare minute could you check out some of my covers on my channel and give some feedback. It sucks to have to advertise like this but it seems like the only way to get exposure. Thanks if you do check it out...
I guess if I imagine the verses slowed down, I can vaguely hear the resemblance between this & Bittersweet Symphony. But, for the Rolling Stones to sue over it & win...(?!) The judge must have had one of those old-school contraptions that slowed a 7" record to a 12". I'd like to hear how it sounds. If anyone has the tech., feel free to upload, then inform me of it ;-)
I love 60s music and I respect Rolling Stones music, some good tracks. However I think Jagger and Richards are horrible and very selfish. They treated Brian like crap, Jagger was a d*ck to Marianne Faithfull and other women. Jagger, with his business acumen, didn't help other 60s musicians from the sharks managers, only himself.
To really stick the knife in they claim copyright for The Verve's 'Bitter Sweet Symphony'. I've heard both songs. They sound nothing alike. wth? o_0

You say Owl City, I say Led Zeppelin
You say Jonas Brothers, I say The Beatles

Fantastic song and performance. Too bad it was all downhill from here performance-wise. I am kidding in a way but isn't so much cooler to see Mick stand and dance a little instead of seeing the overwrought flamboyancy his performance has become.
I definitely hear where Richard A. of the Verve got his inspiration from for BSS, but seriously, the songs sound NOTHING alike. If you compare Katy Perry's "E.T." with Tatoo's "All the things she said" - now THERE's a rip off, no question about it, but these songs are TOTALLY different, different genre different interpretation, different use of the same intro. What the BSS whole melody consists of is barely the first few seconds of intro of The Last Time.
They were consummate musicians, they spent years starving in filthy bedsits just making music. They were heavily into the blues studying every chord of all the old blues records - they hated pop
@Anselcat1952 - Greatest rhythm section in rock history, agreed! I saw The Rolling Stones' entire career. The rock bands' rock band. Let us not forget Keef Riffhard. Awesome song! Still, I don't see how this is similar to Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve. Sure there are some of the same chords but there are plenty of songs that use those chords as well.
@grez14 Well, the Verve used a sample of the instrumental version by "the andrew loog oldham orchestra"
(Oldham was the Stones manager at that time) and if you hear this version, then you will understand the laywers - the sample dominates the song fron start to finish
I can hear it, though the lyrics and mood are radically different to the point where its own mood is further radically different as a result.
Listen at the beginning and when jagger sings "I told you once and I told you twice". It's there. Whether it's enough to give anyone but The Verve the rights is another matter.
Part of this is the general problem with all modern IP law. While Jagger, etal., probably deserve something, it's not likely to be even close to "everything".

Pretty cool in that this is live. Syncing was so common on television back then.

loved the stones when they were young, raw, and rockin. before mick jagger decided prancing around in tights was cool.

Awesome song! Still, I don't see how this is similar to Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve. Sure there are some of the same chords but there are plenty of songs that use those chords as well.

Rolling Stones - The Last Time <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Bitter Sweet Symphony
ROLLING STONES LAWYERS ARE IN MY FUCKING ASS
grez14 3 months ago
@grez14 Well, the Verve used a sample of the instrumental version by "the andrew loog oldham orchestra"
(Oldham was the Stones manager at that time) and if you hear this version, then you will understand the laywers - the sample dominates the song fron start to finish

Exactly what part of the song sounds the slightest bit like bittersweet symphony
pjf585 4 months ago
@pjf585
