This is better than the original, the Beatles should have sounded like this. My Bumpers is in very good condition except I ruined it by putting my signature on it! There was a follow up album to it another double sampler. can't think of the name of it though. happy Christmas to all Bumpers fans.
@Wattsomatic John Lennon said that it was the best cover he had ever heard. Even suggested it might have even been better than when they (The Beatles) first recorded it.
Remember staring at the cover of this great album, black lights and a bong - Heavy stuff. this one and Wrong TIme - love that early raw shred guitar - A few tokes and you were THERE.
@garebear1015 Yes, Yes. This song sounds so great on LSD. After all this time, it still sounds so great. Thank you, Spooky. You're right. They do it better than the Beatles. He really sings the song. Yes, Yes. Lamar (65)
Luther Grosvener was one of my favourite guitarists from back then, but then he dissappeared and I think changed his name to Ariel Bender and played for Mott The Hoople. I think he could have been amazing if he's stayed on the "heavy" side of things.
Spooky Tooth was one of my favorite groups of the late 60s. That said, please realize that it is much easier to creatively cover someone else's song than it is to originate the concept in the first place. This is a classic composition and to me, the original studio version is pure magic.
I like both versions equally. The story remains the same and the wisdom is in the lyrics.
What you do to others you do to your self. The different styles of presentation are superficial. To do the song credit you have to know what it is about. Beatles knew what they were about and so did Spooky Tooth.
This version of "Walrus" will always be the best. Mike Harrison (featured) did a really good version of ' Smokestack Lightning" If you have not heard it-check it out. Then check out the 13 minute version by the old 1960's U.S. band by the same name - Smokestack Lightnin" - Enough said.
To kuritizzyflush - Hey man isn't it ?? Yeah. , MC5 were pretty good - a bit like Pink Fairies who they kicked about with in U.K. Think Grand Funk Railroad and then you will be talking.

Excellent version Just remember John Lennon wrote it! not really heard a bad version of the song just one of those excellent Beatle songs that's timeless.
spooky tooth`s version of "I am the walrus" tears the beatles version to shreds...it perfectly epitomizes the dread contained in the lyrics.
spooky tooth did for "I am the walrus" what joe cocker did for "with a little from my friends" (the woodstock version): they took the song and made it their own.
that`s not what I said, not at all. however, spooky tooth turned "I am the walrus" completely on its head; which is no mean feat! have you ever tried rearranging a well-known tune? well, then you`d know.
as for joe cocker`s version of "with a little help from my friends", he singlehandidly builds an aural sculpture out of something that starts out as basically nothing more than a naff little tune!
@shotdonkey Oh goody! Another never has been never will be blowhard "musician" with a straw man argument. Youtube should change it's name to "respond with nonsequiturs tube".
I like this vrsion, but it doesnt sound round without the crackliness of the original

Which version is better? The Beatles'? Spooky Tooth's? I like Spooky Tooth's very much, but it took John Lennon to write such an interesting song.
