You look cool, you speak even coolier, but what I don't understand... WHY do I see you sitting on all your vids? Can't you speak and test the camera on the same occasion? You look more like a cinema producer than a true photograph...
how did you run you audio? I'm shooting a full length feature starting on the 17th, I want to cut my audio straight into the 60D. You have clean audio in this review...
Thanks for the info Jared! i own a 550d and been thinking of upgrading to a 60D... now when you said that... now i am thinking of upgrading to a 7D... Damn it... i need to save up...
hi jared! i am upgrading my camera and im still confused whether which i should get, the nikon d90 or canon 60d.. im only after the quality of the photos, not the video thing.. which do you recommend? thank you :)
@8x50scope you can also check my recent 50mm test (done yesterday) its in my channel entitled "Canon 60d: photoshoot"
Im upgrading to iMac now since my laptop cant handle hd videos tht much...im jst so limited to 1min render at the moment but i hope its enough to provide sample shots... :)
@8x50scope no need for magic lantern as canon have released an official firmware for 5dmk2.its a fine piece of machine now but im also currently using 60d - and im happy with it...
Sound can be easily fixed by a separate recorder. To be honest im just using my iphone as my sound recorder for now ;)
@8x50scope that's great if you have a 50mm 1.2..im only using 1.4 at the moment but if you really need a body for ultra low light shooting i would suggest 5dmk2...
It offers good white balance, contrast even if you're just holding out a light from a matchstick...
@8x50scope it depends on your lense's capacity for aperture opening...the lower the aperture number, the wider the opening gets making much more light get in.
@MrFueggo it doesn't suck mr.fueggo i have a 60d and it captures good at night...you can check one of my videos which contain night shots, it wasn't that perfect though because im still on the level where i discover a lil bit more about the camera each day.
8 fps and better focusing (errr... more focusing points, who cares). Besides that... why is the 7D better?
Also I TOTALLY agree about the in camera processing. Does anybody buying a 1000 dollar camera give an eff about in camera processing. You can do all of that and much more with any computer program. I absolutely HATE all of the menus and buttons and effects that are meaningless to real photographers. It's kids stuff.
@nickeoss you must of misread my comment. I'm saying the 7D is NOT worth the extra money. I bought the 60D. What I was saying is kids stuff is all the extra in-camera processing that almost all DSLR's have. I agree with YOU... the 60D is the way to go unless you move up to full frame sensor.
80% of the people watching this are here because of the video ability of the 60D . Not about how many bursts shots the camera can take and the focusing system.lol to the video buyers this is a 7D with a swivel screen and cheaper body.
@l0uieda13 Dig it. Great points for a photographer, I'm more into video so the 60D is still the shit and the camera to replace my SX20 IS. Now as I understand it, there is no AF however so that is a bit of a hassle so I will only use it for special occasions because I'm going a lot of photojournalism and don't have time to keep checking focus.
But with the SX20 IS in a decent lighting situation I can set it on its little tripod and do whatever else I need to do. I think I will love it.
@KingCast65 You can AF during recording on 60D but it works just like AF while taking pics which is no good at all. So getting a follow focus and whip might be a good idea for more selective focus. if camera is gonna stay on a tripod and ur subjects are not moving closer or farther away, focusing isnt a real problem at all.
@Slightlyevil From what I've noticed, this is what photographers do. Lol. They buy either Canon or Nikon and never look back. They invest all their money in the cameras and lenses they think are best after careful research in the beginning stages and anytime they're forced to second guess themselves they make the least costly decision which is to denounce the opposing brand in order to feel better about the equipment they'd rather be stuck with than to try and get rid of.
i have the 60D and I WAS TOLD that the only real difference between the 60D and 7D is the material it's made out of (7d being better) and the swivel display (which i find better for taking video). Other than that the picture and video quality are the same.
Why can't you change the ISO? If you're in any of the creative modes you should be able to press the ISO button and change it. Maybe read your manual. I've used a 50mm 1.4 on this camera and the pics are fantastic, but i've taken really good pics with my variable lenses too.
Appreciate your quick response.....one other question...do you recommend what type of lens I should use for video and shooting pics of kids sports games? Right now I have the 18-200mm (part of the kit)
@natantoine Go to TV mode and adjjust your FPS to prob like 250 W/flash. And set the iso to 200, should be a pro setting, The flash will make it a good looking on most lights.
I've got the 60D and i like it a lot! I think its a great camera! But i still believe that is not about the camera that is better i think the person who uses it that really makes the different! Anyway good review tho. 60D decent! Its a good camera anyway.
so basically you're recommending the rebel t2i more than the 60D? but i want the 60D. i just don't know what exactly is the difference between rebel t2i and 60D.
Came here 2 find out a/b the vid side of the cam. I'm trying 2 find a cheaper way to set aperture or focus on a vid cam w/o buying a semi pro vid camera. I like the vid cam you're using. Looks like the background is soft-so what vid cam did you use to make this vid?
The plus side of going w/ a cam/vid cam like this is that my mom will chip in w/ me to buy it if it's a dslr b/c she is into photography & she takes my acting head shots so she's been looking to upgrade.
@JaredPolin have u tried the 2.8 lens on the 60D yet? what's the verdict, also, which size AFFORDABLE lens would you recommend using on the 60D to get that nice 35mm film look. Thanks so much. Keep the vids coming!
@BKLYNBOY7 I would suggest to buy a 50mm 1.4 or if you're saving get 1.8...its very nice to get a prime first...its cheaper than other zoom lense plus you get a lower aperture capability...most important is that you practice practice practice... :)
Hi Jared does the Canon 60D have problems with the video in 1080 HD being choppy or a look of missing frames on the computer during preview? I'm having this problem with this MVI Quicktime mode, it's a real drag I can't even edit. I'm thinking a newer computer with more memory. What have you heard? By the way I like your style!
im camera editing when u can do on your computer and the fact of the scrren moves is that a camera dos not need to have a video made that and the fact of the camera was a pro model camera
hey jared fro, what is really the difference btween jpeg and raw image?does it have something to do with bits?i really need a confirmation about the differences.
@PashaElectro "plastic toy" is totally exaggerating. the T2i is a plastic toy compared to those models, but the 60D is very solid, even though it's not as rigid as a metal body. The 50D is a dinosaur. 60D is better
If you wanna make an independent movie on a budget would you recommend the camera? I like the swivel lens & the mic adjustments the camera comes with.
Canon DSLR cameras could nearly replace a Video Camera before, with the 6D they can! manual sound control and an adjustable swivel LCD. Nice I want one.
I have a 500d(t1i), and im looking for the upgrade, and alot of people have been saying the 60d is pointless, and im really stuck, im short on money and i already have some nice glass a 70-200 f4 "l" but im just stuck 60d or 7d as if i got the 60d id have more of a chance for nice glass but 7d id just have to keep my 70-200 and my 28mm 2.8. as the 60d appeals to me for video, but the 7d would be better for the future with more pro features... help :/ ??
@JaredPolin I was going to buy either 60D or 7D or Panasonic GH2 because I use camera for shooting video and decided to go with 60D in the last minute when the store was just about to close... oh..well... I'll just enjoy this one until I save my money for later upgrades. But hey, thanks for uploading such a great review!
@360ch the 60D is only about $200 more than the T2i. The more solid feel of body on the 60D, better AF, audio gain control, top LCD, etc, etc are worth the difference. Is it a worthwhile upgrade from the T2i though? I would say no unless you really wanted those extra features.
I was looking into the t2i, 60D and the 7D. I ended up with the 60D. I wanted to get the 7D but not enough funds. t2i is amazing but missing features that 60D has; tilt screen, 1080p @ 30fps and 720p @ 60fps, manual sound control, and more frames per second shooting. Waiting for "t3i" was my next option but moments will not wait a couple more months.
I don't know why people aren't super crazy about it. I know I love it. Just my opinion.
Bought the 60D and love it as a second body. I'm unsure why people are so upset about the polycarbonate body. Polycarbonate is what they use to make handguns and riot shields. It's pretty much indestructible in most cases.
Mircoadjust is cool but it's one of those features that most people never really used anyway. If your lens has an issue send it off to repair and rent from borrowlens if you really need to shoot something in that focal length.
Dude, thanks for this video! Could you please tell your opinion and compare these cameras?
Nikon D90 vs Canon 60D with 18-135mm lens. I'm just starting, wanna know what to start with. I want a fast camera, "frames per second" does matter.
Or maybe there is a better equivalent for 1100-1200$??? Doesn't matter Nikon or Canon, both are fine with me. So is there a better equivalent for such price?
I'm just wondering, if the preview shows that Canon 60D its not good enough, well its funny... you're still buying the camera for the Review.. Canon will get happy for that....
Its great that it has wireless flash transmitter built in to the body but the 60d doesn't have flash sync terminal? can you still use a pocket wizard or something?
@viktornilsson93 no, the video quality is the same, but the flip out screen is worth the difference, , if you are using a DSLR for video..BUY THE 60D !
i totally agree with him about the t2i to the 7d and all that, i have a t2i that i got a couple of months ago and 3.7 pictures per second is more then enough especially for a beginner =p
I'm looking at buying the 60d because i want to get into dslr shooting and also mainly for the full hd video. For a lens I was tossing up between the EF 24-105mm f4L IS and the EF 50mm f1.4.
Which do you recommend?
I was thinking the 24-105 for image stabilization...

Here's the only reason I'm considering this camera.... I can use the Eye-Fi SD card with it. Yes you can get an CF adaptor but it's not supported by Eye-Fi and does not always work. The only other option I know of is to spend a few thousand dollars more for a higher end camera that takes CF and SD cards. Any thoughts???
the 40d had the old 9 point focus like the old 5d has---the 50d got the improved 2.8 cross type version--so does the 60d-------//------the higher end 7d has the brand new focus system
@kingkarl666 Im a nikon guy id say the nikon just seems to have a ton of great features and they do amazing things in low light these days. So many pros have switched from canon to nikon for good reason.
@JaredPolin ya from what i've seen and read (comments) nikon seem to be more serious, but thanks and for video do u think that new cam will go head to head with maybe the t2i?
IMHO, the 60D would be a better first choice than the t2i. For the money, you get a more substantial body, and that will give you a more enjoyable experience when shooting. It could also make you feel that an upgrade to the 7d isn't as substantial as it is with the t2i. Saving you money in the long run.
@jeline0708 It really depends on your budget and what you will be using with. The advantage of a 7d would be faster FPS and better quality image in higher ISO. Also lots of buttons on the camera for easy access but could be intemidating and confusing. the 60d on the other hand is a lot cheaper. Buy the body and spend more money for a better lens and buy light room 3, this will solve the iso problems and lot more and shoot in raw for more capabilities when editing pictures. good luck. =)
I am a film major, and I have a couple kids in my class with the t2i and the 7d. But in my opinion I think even though its right in the center of both, it is best. Because it has all the features of the 7d and the best part is, the lighter body. Plus the swivel screen is a must. Plus isnt anything auto, amateur. The manual focus is fine. I think its a great beginner camera but it is capable of giving professional quality, the body is lighter, awesome new tech. we aren't working out here....lol
@Dubi00 A lot depends on how you intend to use the camera. I personally shoot stills first and videos second but if you are looking video than yea it has all those features you would love.
@JaredPolin Ya I am definitely a film person, but I also wanted to get something I could take photos on the side. So that is why I am looking into the camera because I like that it has film features and adequate photography. Thanks for replying your comments help.
@Xxryebread2511xX Really? I think they will do well with the 60d. Poor-man's 7d without compromising too much (body size compared to t2i) And the swivel screen is a step forwards! :-)
Also, if you are in AUTO audio level mode, the audio is then limited/compressed and if you shoot something that has really quiet audio, the limiter boosts up the volume and there you get the hiss. (I dont have D550 or D7 so i am just guessing.)
I would use the AUTO volume only if shooting a concert or something that you know has high audio levels.
You look cool, you speak even coolier, but what I don't understand... WHY do I see you sitting on all your vids? Can't you speak and test the camera on the same occasion? You look more like a cinema producer than a true photograph...

360ch 1 year ago
@360ch the 60D is only about $200 more than the T2i. The more solid feel of body on the 60D, better AF, audio gain control, top LCD, etc, etc are worth the difference. Is it a worthwhile upgrade from the T2i though? I would say no unless you really wanted those extra features.
bacdoliljo 1 year ago
@bacdoliljo I already bought 60D and i should say i'm quite satisfied with it. Thanks for the advise thought :)

@360ch 60D is much better than the Nikon D7000. I've tried both to it's full potential and Canon rocks.

TheNiemeier 1 year ago
Excellent video and good points. I am a Canon user and I agree with what you said. BTW, I have a Canon Xsi and now I have a 7D.
LeighinTexas 1 year ago

Thanks in advance

Jared, love your work!
Your thoughts!!

Any thoughts???

the 40d had the old 9 point focus like the old 5d has---the 50d got the improved 2.8 cross type version--so does the 60d-------//------the higher end 7d has the brand new focus system

what has better quality in taking nice pictures?? 60D or 550D? :) Thanks!
ccheska04 1 year ago
IMHO, the 60D would be a better first choice than the t2i. For the money, you get a more substantial body, and that will give you a more enjoyable experience when shooting. It could also make you feel that an upgrade to the 7d isn't as substantial as it is with the t2i. Saving you money in the long run.

which much better to buy 7d or 60d

jeline0708 1 year ago
@jeline0708 7d has some better features but the 60d is less expensive.
JaredPolin 1 year ago
@JaredPolin
thanks a lot for the advice :)
it really helps ;)
jeline0708 1 year ago

Dubi00 1 year ago
@Dubi00 A lot depends on how you intend to use the camera. I personally shoot stills first and videos second but if you are looking video than yea it has all those features you would love.
JaredPolin 1 year ago
@JaredPolin Ya I am definitely a film person, but I also wanted to get something I could take photos on the side. So that is why I am looking into the camera because I like that it has film features and adequate photography. Thanks for replying your comments help.

Xxryebread2511xX 1 year ago
@Xxryebread2511xX Really? I think they will do well with the 60d. Poor-man's 7d without compromising too much (body size compared to t2i) And the swivel screen is a step forwards! :-)

Did they fix the AGC on this one, not like on the 7D and 550D.
So that when you plug in an external mic, you won't get hiss?
RobbertGroenendijk 1 year ago
@RobbertGroenendijk not to sure yet.
JaredPolin 1 year ago
@JaredPolin I just figured it out, it has manual audio controls! yay!
RobbertGroenendijk 1 year ago
@RobbertGroenendijk
Are you sure its not you mic?
Also, if you are in AUTO audio level mode, the audio is then limited/compressed and if you shoot something that has really quiet audio, the limiter boosts up the volume and there you get the hiss. (I dont have D550 or D7 so i am just guessing.)
I would use the AUTO volume only if shooting a concert or something that you know has high audio levels.
assimunch 1 year ago
@assimunch I don't own one as well, but i have been shooting with a 550D, it only has an auto volume, so that sucks ;D
